I use the shampoo and conditioner together. The shampoo is amazing and I adore it. I only have to wash my hair twice a week now because it cleans near my scalp so well. The conditioner is more for moisturizing so if your hair is really hydrated already you could probably skip the conditioner without any problem. As for stopping the breakage...I don't know if just the shampoo will do a lot since I don't use just the shampoo. The spray leave in conditioner works really well to stop breakage though.

I don't use the hair mask. I did and it does nothing for me that the shampoo and conditioner don't already do. The Monoi Hair Mask just makes my hair a little more tangled and like I said before it didn't do anything more than what the normal monoi conditioner did. It does nto help my hair. I have better results with just the shampoo and conditioner.

I was told by the sales representative that the product works best when used together without the addition of other outside products. However, I've found that the shampoo is very rich and silky and so it is possible that you could comb your hair well after using the shampoo alone. In fact, sometimes my hair feels somewhat sticky after the conditioner, so depending on your hair type, you might prefer the shampoo alone.

NO! You must buy the Conditioner. I didn't buy this mask, I bought the Black Vanilla Hair Smoothie and use that one as a mask, but only because my hair was like severly damaged and I'm doing everything in my power to nurse it back to health. Buy the Monoi Conditioner and you're good, it lasts a while and I know the first buy is super expensive but it'll last you several months as you will notice your hair won't feel like it needs to be shampooed or conditioned every other day. you can wet your hair the day after a shampoo and conditioner and it'll still feel soft and manageable with only water. you can't use these products without their counterparts if you want tangible, effective results.

Yes you can use the shampoo without all the other products. Initially I meant to buy the conditioner and just use it without the shampoo. I am deliberately not buying the mask/hair treatment because it has silcone in it and I have gone sulfate and silcone free in my hair care regime. In fact I have been using CD products for about 5 years and I have never had the masks or smoothies to go with whichever product line I was using. Doesn't seem to have down any harm whatsoever.

Yes! I only use the shampoo. I have color treated oily hair, that is fairly fine with a bit of a wave. This shampoo is one of the best I have found - it doesn't weigh my hair down, it cleans it very well and leaves it soft and shiny.

Shampoo strips the hair, which is why conditoner is needed to soften and nourish. So, yes you should accompany the shampoo with conditoner or hair mask. I don't know if anyone has ever used shampoo sans other treatments, unless it's 2-in-1

I really need to know: does this product weigh down your hair?

I am suddenly dealing with suddenly-dry hair, with a new, muted color. The last thing I need is a product that weighs down my hair. I DO need what this product offers, and it does indeed sound perfect...my hair needs hydrating, even stripping of old medications and sudden illness that damaged my wonderful hair and my once-"perfect" nails. :( Does this product so moisturize that it weighs down one's hair?Can anyone advise me?

If you have oily hair I would not recommend this product. I highly recommend it for dry hair as it's very hydrating. My hair is thick, coarse and curly and practically nothing weighs it down. It left my hair soft and very shiny.

I have super fine hair and I also worry about products being too heavy that would weigh down my hair...this product does no such thing. I usually only use about a quarter size & really lather it into my hair...it is works great :) Ask them for a sample size first...so you can test it out at home before you purchase the bigger bottle. It does not seam to weigh down my hair at all (I have hair that goes poof, and most products either exacerbate it or makes it look like funny). I was pleased with this, and my neither of daughter's hair appeared to look flat or weighed down in the slightest . I do suspect it is a personal thing though based on hair type.

Sephora! What a great website. Who else sends samples that are endlessly useful? Even hairdressers here, even the most skilled/competent, even owners, hastily recommend products that just do not work! Is anyone upset by having to "try" things? It happens all the time, right? So what if I have to abandon a product and try something else? lol Who else lets one ask any questons? Love it.

This shampoo doesn't contain sulfates. I've found with most shampoos without sulfates you need to rinse a little longer. But, you're left with such soft, shiny hair!

Rinse well under luke warm water. You want to rinse all the product out. If you have soft water, it may feel like it takes forever to rinse. Make your final rinse with spring water until you're sure all shampoo is completely out. Follow with the Monoi conditioner. You also want to rinse the Monoi conditioner well making sure you use cool water slightly cold to help seal the folicles. Sealing assures you won't experience dry, brittle, or splint ends after, This also gets rid of the itchies.

I would say that this lather does take longer to rinse out but that is because for me I'm really trying to get out ALL the shampoo. It leaves my hair feeling cleaner too though so i don't mind. Using a different shower head or using a different shower head setting might help. I just switch my setting to one with more pressure and it rinses out faster.

Totally fair question as Carol's Daughter was created by an African American woman for people whose [more] diverse [than mainstream] needs were not being met in the beauty market.

However, as a Sephora expert suggested to me, it's like asking whether anyone can use a product marketed for people with sensitive skin. It's a must for some, and a great product for many more!

totally. the main point of this is that it's anti breakage and repairs the hair - i dont have "damaged hair" per se but i do have fine brittle hair that now i know was in need of strengthening. no residue, great scent, tons of shine and nice texture. must i say more? i got a sample of this, which is how i discovered it, and now regularly use the whole colleciton. i even have the travel set because i notice that much of a difference when i stray from my monoi routine!

I would say no. I sometimes have problems with oil near my scalp and I have very long hair so my ends need a little extra loving. With this shampoo I wash my hair less and I use a spray in conditioner to help with my end breakage. It has definitely helped my hair out and I love it. I would definitely recommend this for you.
