Question
Comparison w/ DDF
how does the Mia compare to the DDF micro polishing system?

I used the DDF product a few years ago. This is better, but it's also a different thing.

The DDF product was about exfoliating only. This one is about deep cleaning, including but not limited to exfoliation.

I find this product much easier to use. DDF was cumbersome.

I would recommend NOT using the Clarison Cleanser. It is full of synthetic chemical ingredients (i.e. look at the ingredient list - do you know what all those things are?) that actually irritate the skin. Many "natural" products have the same substances. Especially if you are prone to break-outs, you need to pay attention to your nutrition, drink lots of water and use only natural oils/products on your skin. I recommend Pratima Skin Care and Living Libations.

I sometimes use Clinique facewash with mine. I will admit that I like the Clarisonic cleanser better--it seems creamier. However, both clean my face and pores quite well. This is a great product.

I use my own cleanser with the clarisonic brush. That's because I have trouble with acne. I might use the cleanser that comes with the clarisonic brush once or twice a week though for some change. The wash that comes with the brush is very gentle.

I would think you should be okay. You can buy softer brush heads for the handle. Also, don't press too hard. Let the brush do the work. If you find it irritates your skin, then don't use it for the full time that it says to use it on your face.

This is incredibly gentle on your skin. It may look like it has a hard brush but it's very soft. Plus, it's all the pressure that your face needs, you're not supposed to apply any pressure to it, just hold it on your forehead down to your chin then cheeks. That's all you need, I don't think you will have any problems with it.

Question
Has anyone experienced more bumps since using this?
Is that what "purging" means? I noticed my skin breaking out, not sure it's from my oil free products ( face wash, moisturizer, etc) or the weather? I drink enough water all day. I'm just frustrated because I want smooth, glowing radiant skin and have a bumpy forehead.

I honestly do no believe in "purging" of the skin. If something make my face break out initially, it always makes my face break out. I broke out VERY BADLY after using this product. I discontinued using this a returned after a week of use. It took my face a couple of weeks to return to its normal state. My face was also irritated and red while using this product. I used peels and scrubs in the past so I was very surprised that this occurred. I had the sensitive brush head and did not press down at all while have this product clean my face. Rather I gently placed it on my face. I have since began just washing my face more "thoroughly" with my finger tips. I actually took some pointers from the clarisonic and circularly scrubbed for longer periods of time and when rinsing my face I used circular motions as well. I feel that this is just as effective in cleaning and has not caused the embarrassment of have reddened face with 30+ pimples on top. Hope this helped! I am very glad to not have this product in my bathroom any longer and my money back in my bank account btw.

I broke out pretty bad maybe a little after a week of using it for the first time, but it was definitely that "purging" period that people have mentioned. It sucks, but stick it out, because it's bringing out all of the gunk that is deep in your skin. After that, it won't make you break out anymore, and it will make your skin so much cleaner and smoother, so just be patient. It really does work.

I didn't experience any out of ordinary breakouts (seeing that I always had acne issues prior to using Clarisonic) but I did go through the "purging" stage from using my Clarisonic Mia. And yes, there is one when you use Clarisonic products.

When I started using the Clarisonic Mia, my face became VERY dry. And that was very rare for me seeing that I have extremely oily skin. My face became so dry that it began to peel. It was extremely uncomfortable.

I ended up reaching a Clarisonic customer service representative who told me that it was normal to experience dryness and breakouts after using Clarisonic for the first time. Clarisonic deep cleanses your face bringing out the impurities and oils deep in your skin, therefore causes breakouts and dryness. The customer representative later on told me to wait 2 more weeks to see improvements on my skin. And I did just that. I dreaded every bit of that 2 weeks and more. But sure enough, my skin started looking great. It's been almost a year now since I started using my Clarisonic Mia and I no longer experience breakouts like I did before using Clarisonic and best of all my skin glows!

It might not be the same for you, but for me the "purging" stage it took a little over a month. Hope this helps!

I had a few extra pimples come up on my face when I first started using it. I think that's because it's really cleaning out your pores and pushing anything to the surface that it possibly can. I would think that this should subside after the first few weeks of initial use.

I read a ton of blogs before using this. I did read that a portiono f people did experience it getting worse before it got better.
I used the deep cleanining brush head and my favorite DDF cleanser with Saciliyic acid and my skin got better right away.
I'd keep on using it!

You need water based product with non drying ingredients and use Mia once a week. You may be over brushing it too much. You need a serum or a product to allow your skin to recover/heal first until the bumps will fade over the time. It'll take between 3 to 6 months.

Just be patient. Usually when you add a new routine to your skincare you are going to breakout a bit. Use the MIA in combination with a good acne medication. I use retin-a and glycolic acid. I'd say if the bumps don't go away within 6 weeks, I'd either switch to a more delicate MIA head (if you don't already have the most delicate one), or just stop all together. Your skin might be too sensitive for that much exfoliation.

The sales-girl at sephora warned me about "purging", she broke out at about the 3rd day and started clearing up on day 5. I did too, the first few days you feel like you're breaking out and after that your skin gets smoother and breaks out much less. It's just the icky dirt and oil and gunk being brought up to the surface and washed away and then it's gone.

I experience a little breaking out when i first used the product..but it went away shortly. I think your skin is not use to the vibrations and the products drawing all the trapped dirt to the surface (a good thing)..Give it a week or so. It should help if you build yourself up to a 2x/day use. For instance..I started just 1ce a day..every other day for a week..then built up to daily use until now where I use the product every morning and evening. Hope this helps!

I noticed that - since I am fully exfoliated - it is easier for bacteria to get into your pores and I find that is when I get breakouts - like my pillowcases may have some makeup on them (and get on my clean face at night), and I use a clean washrag every time I rinse off my face after my mia (let's be honest - sometimes I'm lazy and want to just use my hand towel every now and then). I no longer break out unless I am going back to a bad habit.

Question
New Mia won't stop making pulsing noises while charging.
Has anybody else experienced this? I just bought a Mia (yikes, pricey!) and I'm trying to charge it, and the manual says it's supposed to buzz once, and then there'll be a light; but it won't stop buzzing, like, once a second. And there is no wretched light.

Upon experimentation, I've been able to make a flashing light show up, and the stupid noise stop, if I move the charger to another part of the handle; but I can't sit there for 24 hours holding it, and the light only appeared for a few seconds anyway. This is not an auspicious start.

Any thoughts?

I purchased a Mia the other day (the $119 version), and when I went to charge it, it kept pulsing. After 20 minutes of trying to figure out whether it was just on the charger incorrectly, I figured it was a problem. Also, when I hit the power button, it wouldn't stay on, as soon as I let go it would shut off. It isn't supposed to do that. I returned it and they let me get a new one, and that one works correctly. It's definitely not supposed to continuously pulse while charging, so bring it back and ask for a replacement!
