No, this product only deposits color. It cannot lift dark roots. It's temporary color and only permanent color can lift. That's why it's meant for gray hair.

I have black and grey roots and the blonde spray does cover up well. My only issue is the color match which isn't a perfect match. It's close enough for me to keep using because of its so quick and easy to use. I'd say try it out, you can always return it free shipping and total refund

I dont think it will do anything for you, I have the same problem; however, the product that did help me was bumble and bumble!!!! this does the job of making it look more natural. the rita hazan product was not light enough to help me, the bad thing about the bumble and bumble dry shampoo spray is that is very sticky, it will get in your face, hands and clothes so spray it, let it dry, then brush it or rub it in. I dont like the fact that my nails and face and ears get that brownish stuff on it, and the color is not going to be blonde, but it will give it a gradual look, not that shocking blonde/black look.

I do not think you will be happy working with this product if you are trying to match light blonde hair. Your roots will be lighter with this product, but will have a weird orange cast which makes the roots even more obvious.

I have light brown (dishwater) hair with a little gray that I have colored blond with light golden blond highlights. I got the blond color to try and conceal the roots before my next color. The 'blond' color is a medium tan, much darker than my blond hair. It was a thick sticky, dirty looking consistency and I had to rewash my hair. The roots looked better without!

MY HAIR IS LIGHT BLONDE AND I DID A STREAK HERE AND THERE TO COVER ROOTS.... I HAVE HIGHLIGHTS AND IT DID THE TRICK. JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET YOUR SCALP AS IT WILL ALSO TURN BLONDE. I have auburn hair and grabbed light brown by mistake and it blended pretty well. I've tried the red, and while it's not my exact color it, too, blends well. I think the idea is that any close color is going to blend in with your natural color, making stark grays not as noticeable. I would try the testers. If you have to order online, then I would try the color closest to your hair color. Just my opinion, hope it helps!

I have been using medium golden brown as my go-to hair color for awhile, I purchased the light brown color because other reviews had remarked that it wasn't actually that light. If you are using it to cover gray it should work well because it goes on dark but in the light the sparkle of the gray will come through making it look lighter brown. Hope this helps.

I have black hair and I imagine it will take more to cover my grey - I have greys only in the top front portion of my hair - if used daily how long would once can last? The price seems steep, but if it lasts a while then it would be worth it.

I used the light brown on my auburn hair, and it wasn't messy at all, but maybe if you have black hair it would be different, not sure. The product doesn't go anywhere you don't spray it, so it doesn't really get into the air around you like hairspray does. If you use short bursts aimed at the grays, it shouldn't get all over. As far as how much is in the bottle, I agree that the bottle is really light in weight, which makes me think there's not a lot in there, but the salesperson said that it should last for a while, judging by the turnover on the testers in the store. I've used mine about 10 times and it seems like there's still more in there. I'm actually counting, just to see. Hope this helps!

These sprays are only really effective for root grow out or spot touch up. It won't leave your hair soft or shiny...just covers roots. With that said, if you only have a spot in front to touch up it probably should work just fine for "in between" salon times.

It will easily washout with shampoo and water. As far as washing it out before you go to a salon, that will not be an issue, because you will immediately wash it out the moment you try it. The product is horrible.

i washed it out of my hair before going to the salon so that the color being applied would adhere better to my hair. you usually want to go to the salon with freshly-washed hair so the color can get into the molecules of your hair follicles!

I would definatly wash this producy out before seeing your colorist. I am a colorist at a salon and this product is quite thick and the hair could break trying to comb it through to color.

you dont have to wash your hair, the product lasts for a few days if your hair doesnt get too oily. I mixed it with the bumble and bumble product and normally i have to wash my hair everyday without any product i have a greasy scalp, but with the two combinations, i would go a whole week and my hair looked great---have to style it everyday, but this is the first time ever!

My colorist applies my color without removing this temporary powder. That having been said, I was not happy with the results the last time she did this...it just seemed as though the color did not penetrate as well on the roots. Of course, it may have been my fault for letting the roots grow out an extra week.

It works! I spray it directly on my new gray hair growth, and I use it on my scalp ( just a little ) to cover my part...it makes my hair look thicker! I showed it to a friend, who joked that it reminded her of the commercials of men who spray paint their bald spot. Now that she said that, I laugh every time I use it, but I CONTINUE to use it, and now my friend has purchased it as well! It's very easy to apply, just aim and spray. I've used other products with powder applicatiors too, and found it worked, but with MUCH effort. This spray takes a matter of seconds and lasts until washed! My only regret is I didn't buy more since I had to get it online. It's a small bottle, so I do use it sparingly, usually waiting until my regrowth shows. It's pricey but worth it to this 42 yr. old who wants to look good! It has become a "staple" and I won't go without it. I'll find a way to afford it. I need it! It works!

I used the brown, but I can't imagine that any of the color tones could possibly work given the design of the product. Imagine using a can of spray paint that mostly colors your scalp not the hair.

I'd recommend using this on dry hair only; as a test, though, try it on damp hair and see if, as the moisture in your hair evaporates, the color stays where you sprayed it. This is a fantastically effective product and worth the trouble to give it a test run or two under different conditions.
