Some of you might not have seen the area that is right before the reviews..... there is a tab that says 'Active Ingredients' & 'Suggested Use'. Very informative section that might help with some of the questions.

I use this a couple times a week at night after cleansing and nothing else. I suppose after the product has dried and set (I'd wait at least an hour), one could apply a moisturizer, sunscreen, etc.

You should apply it before moisturizer. I saw Dr. Gross on QVC say that you should cleanse, apply these, and then go about with your normal skincare routine. I usually apply mine at night.

I would suggest that you skip moisturizer entirely. It will just interfere with the product while it is processing and could lead to blotchy color. I apply mine after washing my face and allowing it to dry completely before applying product nothing in between.

answer 12
If you have dry skin and don't regularly exfoliate, then you will likely want to moisturize first. But be aware that you need to apply these to dry skin so you'll need to let your moisturizer completely absorb. Also, these are a self tanner so they develop the typical self tanner odor after about an hour. I would not recommend using in the morning if you are going to school, work, or anyplace else where you don't want to smell around people. Put these on at night before bed because it takes a full 8 hours for the color to develop. And you won't use these daily. I would say you'll use every 3 days at most. I have fair skin and will be using every 5-6 days.

Question
Morning or Night Application?
I am a light/fair redhead who doesn't tan at all (avoid the sun almost completely and wear 30+ SPF at all times)... so these are appealing to me. I have quite a few sample and want to try them, but am worried about my face turning orange. I only plan on using them on my face and neck.

Questions:
#1: Does it matter if I apply it in the morning or does it have to be evening? The instructions are somewhat vague.

#2. How long does it take to "activate" and show color? An hour, a few hours?

#3. Should I exfoliate prior to using this? Seems like it would be a good idea.

#4. Is there a "secret" way to make sure I get an even application without streaks? I haven't used a self tanner since the 80's and let me tell you -- they were horrid back then. LOL

Thanks for the advise!

#1: Does it matter if I apply it in the morning or does it have to be evening? The instructions are somewhat vague.
You can do it during the day but it just is more convenient at night. It exfoliates , and the color builds over time so it's perfect to do at night before moisturizer and wake up with a tan face!

#2. How long does it take to "activate" and show color? An hour, a few hours?
about 4-6 hours.

#3. Should I exfoliate prior to using this? Seems like it would be a good idea.
NO! you will likely experience redness and sensitivity if you do. with most self tanners you would want to, but this product actually exfoliates already, so there is no need.

#4. Is there a "secret" way to make sure I get an even application without streaks? I haven't used a self tanner since the 80's and let me tell you -- they were horrid back then. LOL
Just be really thorough- you cant see any color when you apply, so just make sure you are getting your face evenly and blending into your hair line, and down onto your neck and chest. One pad will do your face, neck, and most of your chest and shoulder area.

I usually apply mine at night. You can always exfoliate in the a.m. if you feel like you have gotten a little too much color. Also, you don't have to use the entire pad at one time. Just put it back in the package and clip it back up and use the rest on the following day. I have done this also and love the gradual color that I get.

these are only intended to be used on your face and neck. They are not made for the body. I apply mine in the evening, after I have cleansed my face. They are amazing! The color starts to develop in approximately an hour. This product has alpha and beta hydroxy acids that exfoliate the skin, so you don't really need to exfoliate before using them.

I have found that it is best to use this product in the morning after I wash my face and let it dry completely. I do NOT put any moisturizer on and apply the glow pad directly to my bare skin and let it dry. I then put bare essentials powder foundation over it and go about my day. I don't see any reason why you can't do this at night as well.
As far as streaking goes... Just take your time and make sure to cover all areas. I also use it on my neck and ears to make sure I have even coverage and no visible lines. The pad is large enough to cover more than just the face... but not much more, it is definitely just for the face and neck and is not big enough for body coverage.
I do exfoliate lightly before using this product. Its always a good idea to do before using a self tanner.
Hope this helps :)

Questions:
#1: Does it matter if I apply it in the morning or does it have to be evening? The instructions are somewhat vague.

- I prefer evening so makeup doesn't interfere and I can wake up with a surprise tan ;-)

#2. How long does it take to "activate" and show color? An hour, a few hours?

- It took a few hours for me when I tried it during the day.

#3. Should I exfoliate prior to using this? Seems like it would be a good idea.

- I always exfoliate first so the tanner isn't concentrated on rough spots.

#4. Is there a "secret" way to make sure I get an even application without streaks? I haven't used a self tanner since the 80's and let me tell you -- they were horrid back then. LOL

- No secret for me, I just rub till I think I'm finished, then rub some more because I'm not!

1. I have used this both in the evening & in the morning. I personally prefer the evening b/c it allows more time to dry before I apply other products (moisturizer, makeup, etc.)
2. I noticed the color developing within a few hours.
3. Exfoliating is always good before applying tanning products, but don't over do it. This product contains glycolic acid which is a chemical exfoliant. I would recommend a mild brush or puff with your regular cleanser.
4. I run the pad all over my face in a circular motion. I then quickly (before it dries) buff around my hairline, eyebrows, and smile lines with a cotton ball to prevent color build-up in those areas.

I have medium skin and used this right away on my face at night. In the morning my skin was super dark and a bit too much ( for my taste) on the orange side. I "doctored" up the look with blush and mineral bronzer to even it out and tone it down. If you have very light skin, I would go very easy on it. Better to layer it if necessary.

#1: Does it matter if I apply it in the morning or does it have to be evening? The instructions are somewhat vague.

The benefit of applying them in the evening is that you aren't exposed to the elements - sun, wind, rain, etc. Heading to the gym, sweating, showering ... all of those will impact the results if you don't leave enought time for the color to develop.

#2. How long does it take to "activate" and show color? An hour, a few hours?

Sorry, I always apply these an hour or so before bed, so I can't help with this one ;)

#3. Should I exfoliate prior to using this? Seems like it would be a good idea.

YES! People underestimate the benefits of exfoliating first. I have VERY pale, dry skin; so exfoliating is a must for me to achieve a streak-free tan.

#4. Is there a "secret" way to make sure I get an even application without streaks? I haven't used a self tanner since the 80's and let me tell you -- they were horrid back then. LOL

I exfoliate first, use one of the pads, and then I apply a lightweight moisturizer (make sure it's just a moisturizer, not a "treatment" cream). I have found using a light face lotion afterwards helps me even out the application from the Glow Pad. It also slightly tones down the color, which I like because I am so pale. Don't forget to wash your hands and wrists :)

As with any self tanner, you should allow several minutes for this to dry before laying down (etc). But this product dries rather quickly. Easily after 5-10 minutes you shouldn't worry about the tanning product transferring to anything. I have fair skin and the original color lasted 48 hours. On the third day it had faded, but was still decent. I will be applying every 5 days so that I don't get overly dark and look unnaturally tan against my fair skin. If you are more of a medium complexion, then you may need to apply every 3-4 days.

I have been using every three days. I thought it would take some time to build up to the color I wanted, but the color was perfect after one application and lasted through my morning and night routine of using a clarsonic and exfolients and antiaging serums. I do tend to use it at night so I am not "developing" during the day, but honestly, there is no smell and if you wanted to use during the day, there is absolutely no reason not to!

Depends on how dry your skin is. The drier the skin, the less it will stay "tan." Keep your skin moisturized and really exfoiliate before use. (I know it says it exfoliates - but do that before applying.) It should help it stay for about 5-7 days.

I used it on a Saturday evening and didn't wash it off until Sunday evening (lazy weekend). I was pretty orange by that time. I used Kate Somerville Exfolikate for Acne because I wanted to slough off some of the orange, but it was still a little unnatural looking immediately after. After washing my face normally the next morning (using a makeup-removing facewash with a Clarisonic Mia, just FYI) I was amazed at how even my skintone looked and how I looked glowing and smooth. Keep in mind the other products I already use regularly, so it must be these pads creating the smooth and glowy look. I looked great Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but Thursday I looked only slightly tanner and my dark spots were visible again, so I think this lasts 3 days because the first day of four is too orange and the fifth day it's mostly gone.

Depending on how much color you want, at least 2. I usually use 3 for my body and face. I have noticed whatever you start with e.g. right leg, will be darker than what you finish the pad with e.g left leg. I found that out the hard way. Now I use new pad to do rt leg and then rt arm. New pad to do left leg, then left arm. You get the picture.

The pads are little towelettes that are about 2.5-3" square. Depending on your height and weight, you would need to use at least 10 towels to do your entire body. This product is intended only for face/neck/chest. It's not a full body self tanner. I guess you could use it for that, but you would be spending a lot of money to do so.

I realize this product may not say "Just for Face" (like thousands of other skincare products on here & every other site..that don't necessarily tell you, "Put this on your face- NOT your body") but this particularly references face-specific results... like "tightens pores"... Out of curiosity, did any of those same people use the original Alpha-Beta pads (sans tanner) on your entire body as well?

The towelette size is clearly for face and neck, so for the body I think it would take a towlette per section, i.e. two for each leg, two for front torso, two for back torso, and maybe one for each arm. I have light blonde hair & I usually put a shower cap over my hair to protect it. However, if I put it too heavy on the forehead I can see a definite line at my hairline, but have never seen it stain my hair. I usually just use my hair to cover the line or lighten up on use in that area. As for the ruddiness, I have that too & I couldn't tell that the product made it worse.....it did help me use less makeup though.

This product might stain your hair, as is a risk with white hair and any self tanner. But it will definitely stain your ruddier areas and any age spots noticeably darker than the rest of your skin. So you will then have to wear concealer and foundation to even that out. I think you are better off going with a non-committal product like a gel bronzer (Per Fekt makes a good one and Hourglass just came out with a new gel bronzing primer). These products will give you the tan glow that you want, but they won't stain your skin or hair.

In my opinion this is a godsend product. It does exactly what it says. As far as the exact ingredients go, I'm not sure if it has an oil in it, but when it comes to feeling as if the product does, I would so no. Hope this helps. :)

I have combo skin, it gets really oily sometimes and very dry sometimes (dryness only happens around the mouth area though) and I noticed this product did NOT make it look dry at all and it didn't make my skin oily. Hope it helps.

I applied this after scrubbing and washing my face at night and by the morning I had a tint of color. It won't make you orange but will give you color. Apply in circular motions until the pad feels dry on face and neck.

I can really tell the next day. It is a very natural tan.
I feel like I have beautiful, healthy looking color after one
application. However, I don't think it lasts that long. I usually
apply 2x a week.

Question
Will it damage my skin tone?
Being Japanese, my skin is prone to brown spots caused by sun exposure. In fact, right now, I'm trying to fade some big brown spots by trying almost everything. I would like, however, to add some color or tan to my face, and I'm concerned this product will only cause more brown spots after a while or after I stop using it.

I don't think it would hurt your skin tone. It is very subtle and natural.
Gives a healthy glow, not noticeable color. It is one of my favorite products.

No, it is not going to cause brown spots. It is a self-tanner, there are no UVA/UVB rays which are what cause sun spots. In fact, there are alpha and beta hydroxy acids in this product which actually help fade existing sunspots.

I have some brown spots too, and I think this product will actually help fade spots because it contains AHA's which are a good exfoliant. It helps you exfoliate while you are tanning. You might want to try Dr. Dennis Gross alpha beta peel pads. I use these as well and it really helps my skin tone. I am light skin and my skin gets pink and blotchy and sometimes has brown marks too.

I have acne and a skincare regime I do at night and in the am. Can I continue to do my routine?
At night I use BareMinerals night cell renewal, ole henricksen night gel and my shiseido eye cream. What can I continue to do and is there any thing I should specifically take out when applying this or to maintain it better?

I also have a morning and night ritual with my skincare. I used this after I cleaned my face at night and then applied my eye cream over it and it worked great. No side effects.
