The emultion is a little ligther than the cream. I personally prefer the cream because my skin is on dry side and it works perfectly for me.

In a line, this is how they measure thickness of products. The most light-weigh moisturizers are emulsions and are more well-suited with oily skin. The middle, is what we know as lotions which are a bit heavier than emulsion. For the thickest, it is the cream which leans more toward dry skin types. Depending on how much moisture your skin needs, it should help you determine which skin type you and therefore determine if you would want the emulsion or cream. My mom has been using the creams for many years now (30+ yrs) and she loves it!

The cream is intended for dry to very dry skin. The emulsion is for normal to slightly dry skin. I wish I could do the emulsion, I think it would last longer, but it won't do for my super dry skin. Give it a try, sephora is great about returns...I would just return it if its too light.
