You do need a sharpener, and you'd be wise to use UD's Grindhouse. That is the one shortcoming with these pencils, in my opinion. I would much prefer a twist up - less breakage, less hassle. But they are so terrific otherwise that I'm prepared to put up with this one flaw!

Is this the same formula as the UD 24/7 eyeliner, in a chubbier pencil?

I have both Rehab and Underground and while they are sort of similar, they definitely are NOT the same - I like them both and wouldn't want either discontinued. I'm pretty sure some of these colors have been reformulated within the past year and that may be why a few commenters have said they are exactly the same but with different names. Maybe they really were the same when they were first introduced, but they definitely aren't the same now. I would recommend finding a store and swatching them -- or better yet, actually testing them on your eyes -- if possible, to get an idea of the difference.

If you can't swatch them in person, if you buy from Sephora you can always return it if you find it's too similar to another color you already have. For me, even a subtle difference in the tone or density can have a big impact on the overall effect, so it's worth giving them a quick comparison if you get a chance.

To me they feel the same, smooth and easy to apply. The shadow pencils are obviously more convenient if you want to use them all over your lid, as opposed to wasting 1/2 a regular liner each time. All of the colors coordinate to the regular liners as well, only the names are changed. Tip: the brush that UD sells specifically to apply it is not necessary. You can use any relatively firm eyeshadow or concealer brush to blend it.

This is not a waste of money. I have both and use both frequently. I am not sure if they are the same formula, but they seem to be a little different. These pencils seem to be a bit creamier to make the transfer to the lid area much smoother than the liner pencils. Also, if you do it right away, you can blend them beautifully. I have tried to blend the liners with the same brush and it is much more difficult. Having that said, they both dry to a soft, smooth finish that don't crack or crease and stay for a very long time!

To me these seem smoother to apply and seem to have more pigmentation than some of the 24/7 liners. I've tried to use the liners as a quasi-shadow when traveling and they're a bit dry and thick when adding more layers. These feel a bit more luxurious when applying and feel light and airy (like no makeup) all day even though they look very dramatic.

I don't know if it's the same formula, but the application is definitely not the same. It would be hard to get the same smooth and soft effects you can get with this shadow pencil using the liner. I think it's slightly different, slightly more powder-y. I've got both, and I love them both.

I think they are similar, but a little bit more on the creamier side than the liner pencils. The colors are a bit different too, almost like they made the shadows to go with and compliment the liners. For example I bought the morphine (light purple) Shadow pencil and pair it with the Lust (deep purple) liner. They compliment each other well. I also tried using morphine shadow pencil as an all over and the lust liner for my outer corners and then blended to make neat shaded look-though the liner pencil is a bit harder to blend because it sets even faster than the shadow pencil. Hope this helps!!

answer 13
No, they are not the same. The shadow pencils are much more powdery, as one would expect from an eyeshadow product. I would compare them to the urban decay liquid eyeshadows which have dried down somewhat. The end product would be a pure powder pigment that is very slightly gel and wet, just enough to glide on your skin.

I think this product is superior to the liquid eyeshadows because the packaging makes it much easier to use and will not cause it to become inaccessible (dry in a tube).

In my experience, all have been good. I've also found that some of the liner pencils that are waterproof can do just as good a job and give the same effects. You might want to go to Sephora and try a few out. Wear a swatch on the top of your hand to see how long it would last.

These are SUCH a better quality pencil. I have used the Sephora ones because I wasn't impressed with the NARS brand for what I was paying for it. I liked the Sephora ones okay but hated how they rubbed off so easily. They just always stayed too creamy and with having allergies I touch my eyes often on accident and before you know it my makeup was almost gone. These start out barely creamy going on to the lid and then dry to a smooth velvety finish that feels so soft and almost powdery, but does not stray or crease from your lid. If you love jumbo pencils, try one and you can always return it if you're not impressed!

The sephora jumbo pencils, like the NYX jumbo pencils, do not dry down and always smudge, because they are cheap products. The sephora jumbo pencils are a bad buy. If one must go the budget route, buy the NYX jumbo pencils ($2/each) as they are the same quality as the sephora, just much cheaper.

This product is far superior because it, like all urban decay makeup, dries down and will not budge or smudge and retains its brightness all day. However, you pay for that , it's 10 times the price as a NYX pencil.

Super duper duper size the pencil and you have the size of this (about the size of dime). It is like a huge crayon, that is super creamy, you sharpen when you need more product, goes on THICK one or two strokes and your eyelid is fully covered. Best be sure that is the color you want for the day, as you can't blend and you would have to use eye make up remover (heavy duty stuff) to re do. You need to be sure you want this specific color on your eye and where. Test in store. It is a one shot deal. Great if you know exactly what you want to look like ....apply and go. Horrible if you find out you want to blend or look a bit different or change colors or find it too flashy etc.

As far as a highlighter, go with Sin. Lit is WAYYY too gold to be used as a 'subtle highlighter' and Midnight Cowboy is beautiful but full of silver glitter (not subtle at all). Sin is very close to MC in color, but is smooth and beautiful!

As far as a dark brown, Wasteland is not olivey at all. It is like a very dark chocolatey brown. Rehab is also very pretty (not exactly taupe). It has a little coppery richness to it IMO and I bought it because I thought it would fade out better into a smokey eye than Wasteland would just because it's not SOO dark. Both beautiful colors!

If your skin is more on the pink-side, probably Sin would be best. If it has more golden undertones, go for Lit. I'd personally stay away from the Midnight Cowboy as a brow highlighter, it's too glittery for that purpose in my humble opinion.
I have the Wasteland. I think of it as a brown, but it is in truth an olivey-brown. It is not like Bourbon or a rich brown, it definitely has a gold/green cast. It's very pretty on, though. I've been wearing it constantly since I got it.

There was for a set of five (called 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil Stash), and it was on sale for 12 bucks just two weeks ago. I bought it. Lucked out, sold really fast. Had Crash, Sin, Delinquent, Rehab, Wasteland. Hope they release more sets!

I have been loving Urban Decay for a long time. I am not a professional but from having a love relationship with this makeup I can tell you from my experience they probably won't make a set of all the shadow pencils until maybe Christmas time if we are lucky. Since they are so new. It took them about two years to make a full set of the eye liners.

At this time I do not know of any sets containing the shadow pencils. There are various sets that contain the 24/7 pencils

On UD's site, pencils refers to the liners. There isn't a set of these shadow pencils yet, though I hope UD does issue one as part of their 15yr anniversary. Sadly, I think that if they do issue a set, it will be as hard to get as the NAKED palette, since everyone will want one!

I don't think there is a shadow pencil set because it is a new product but I sure hope they make one!

Eye pencil is the small one, the actual eye liner and not shadow. UD will specifically state that the product is shadow and the sets they sell are normally in pencil form.

There is a small set of mini eye liner pencils on the UD website. But no set of eye shadow pencils (...yet...)

There are currently no sets of the 24-7 shadow pencil (even on UD website) but I look forward to them launching one as soon as possible!

Question
Can these be blended into powder shadows?
Would these be OK along with powder shadows or do they work better as a base or blended into other pencils?

When I do my make up I always use a light colored powder first. I love to sparkle! Then I use the shadow pencils on top. I blend them with my fingers because whenever I try with brushes it never works out so well. These shadow pencils are so easy to use! Once you play around with them I hope you will be just as in love as I am. =)

Yup, I use them with powder. Powder on top or on top of powder. They look lovely and glide on easily either way. You'll really like them. :)

If I use shadow pencil all over lid, I blend the crease out with a powder shadow and it fades nicely. Especially with sin eye primer!

I would use them as a base, they don't blend well into powder, though you can put powder over them.

I don't feel it blends well. After a few seconds it is "dry" and stays put.

Can be used with other crayon colors or with powder shadows. It makes the powders stay on better!

Question
Is the Delinquent shade like either the Lust or Ransom 24/7 eyeliner pencils?
Is the purple as intense as either of these pencils?

It is brighter and GLITTERY. A true jewel color. However if I had to choose between the two I'd say it's closer to Ransom in that it doesn't have the blue undertone that Lust has.

The delinquent color is a dark plum purple. I love it better than the eye liners. Goes on smooth and very vibrant! I like to use Delinquent and Morphine together. Morphine makes you look like you are glowing! Love it!

Yes it's intense color. I'd say its similar to ransom, with a subtle purple sparkle in it. I like to layer UD shadow 'fish net' over it. Comes out really pretty.

It is an incredibly bright and vibrant purple shade. One of my favorites. It reminds me of randoms only with a little more metallic shimmer.

I have tried the Delinquent shade in the store and have never seen a 24-7 eyeliner with that color (I'm obsessed with them). This is a dark but bright purple (think like a smokey purple crayon almost... not eggplant or anything that dark), with a bright purple sparkle in it. It is VERY purple looking but is one of the most stunning purple colors I have ever seen in an eye product.
