yes it does need to be heated up to use. i think it says heat for 30 sec and it took long than that to heat up.

The directions tell you to, but honestly, unless your house is cold, the wax works just as well right out of the container.

I microwaved it, it made the wax a little thinner and easier to spread. Haven't tried it cold, but I think it would be harder to manipulate.

You def. want to heat up the wax before you use it. I did attempt to heat the wax up in hot water but it wasnt good enough, a microwave is needed.

You don't have to heat it, but there are directions if you want to heat it....which is great, because heat is not necessary to make the product work, but if you have a microwave available, you can warm it up a bit and make it more like a salon experience, and a little easier to work with.
