BareMinerals uses Bismuth Oxychloride which is essentially a chemical since it's a processed mineral that doesn't occur naturally. For some people, like myself, it's a skin irritant.

My skin became a mess after I started using BareMinerals and it turned out that I'm too sensitive to Bismuth Oxychloride.

I'd suggest that you try the Medium. The light is pretty pale, but use a light hand with the Medium or Medium-Beige and I think you'll be happy.

This will vary depending on how much coverage you use; I've been using mine for a week and haven't even used one quarter of what I received. Obviously, the fuller the coverage and the more you apply, the faster you will run out, but you should get at least a month's worth out of one foundation. Two if you use both the original foundation and the matte formula.

I bought the Medium dark. I'm about the same color as Gabrielle Union. Worked perfectly. I also have neutral undertones. If you have more yellow in your unterrtones, I'd suggest the Deep foundation.

You don't necessarily have to use a ton of product to get good coverage, if the color you're using is the right shade. My best guess for you is that the color maybe too light. I had the same problem when I first tried BE. I later went to the store and had the store associate help me choose my shade. She was very surprised that I had been using a shade that was about 2 or 3 shades lighter than she recommended. I am kind of light skinned so I assumed I would need the lightest shade. The store associate tried the medium beige on me and it was a world of difference. It actually covered my imperfections and still looked natural and has never looked orange-ish, it is perfect. Long story short, if you can get to a Sephora or even a BE store I highly recommend it. I would have never picked the shade for me that the associate did, and I wouldn't have discovered how awesome the foundation really is!

I bought this in-store. I wasn't sure which shade to buy so I asked an associate and she got out the two samples we thought were going to work and she applies each to my jaw line to see which one blended best. I"m glad I did that too, because I was leaning towards buying the other one before trying them.

The product should say directly on it which is matte, if you haven't ordered it yet you need to specify which you want, and if you have ordered it it should say on the bottom label. Im pretty sure the matte is the warmer color though
