Yes. The mattes have a very matte, almost powder over lipstick, look to them. The mattes are also the longest lasting, but the least moisturizing...in my opinion. The original has a slight shine, not quite what I think of as glossy, but more like you just licked your lips. They have a nice slip to them. Feel more like a balm, where the matte feels like a lip stick. The darker colors in the original formula stain the lips the best. I like to wear the darker colors on my lips before I go to sleep. When I wake up, my lips are fully stained and I bring the original with me for reapplying mostly for the balm like feel. Just do not wear additional balm in conjunction or it won't sink in and stain. The luster reminds me more of a gloss than the others. It has shimmer in it. Has the same balmy feel as the original, but with shimmer.

Yes, it has a shimmer whereas the matte ones and the other ones do not. The glitter is NOT overbearing, though! It goes on beautifully and looks beautiful as well. It looks great at the beach, too!

I have also tried Tarte's Natural Lip Stain (the original one), but this one has a ton of sparkle and shimmer. The original formula does not. I think you will love this if you like shimmery lip products, but hate it if you want a subtle luminosity. I tried the shade "Buff" and it doesn't have very much pigmentation (however, it is the nude shade), so that is another thing to consider.

The new lip lusters have noticeable shimmer or sparkle to them (but not glitter pieces). The original LipSurgence™ Natural Lip Luster has a subtle sheen, but is more like a lipstick in its finish and definitely does not have shimmer. And the mattes are true matte with no sheen at all.
These new lip lusters are definitely the most sheer out of all 3 types, but I do love the LipSurgence™ Natural Lip Luster in Adored, which is a true medium pink and wakes my whole look up without seeming overdone for day or night.

The darker colors in the lip surgences are the most likely to stain. The lighter colors do not stain my lips at all. I like to put these on after I brush my teeth right before I go to sleep. They really sink in over night. When I wake up, I have a nice stain to my lips. The berrys and reds stain better in the original and luster formulas. During the day, the matte lasts longer through talking, drinking, eating.
The finishes are all different. The matte has an almost powder over lipstick effect. It is the creamiest and lasts the longest. The original has a nice slip to it. It has a balmy texture. I have heard others describe it as the look of a gloss. I think it looks like you just licked your lips, not quite what I would describe as glossy. This one stains nicely over night. The lusters are the ones that remind me more of a gloss. They have the same balmy feel as the original. They have shimmer and the same licked lip effect. The darker colors in the lusters stain the lips nicely over night as well. I find the lusters the most moisturizing. Just be sure not to apply any other balm if you are going to use it over night to stain. Just use this. Also, reapply a few times throughout the day. I personally love them. My favorite 'mix' is moody with exposed. Moody at night. Exposed during the work day with just a touch of moody so it doesn't wash me out.

I don't find this to have any more staying power than a normal lipstick! I was quite disappointed in that. I have also tried Tarte's Natual Lip Stain (the original one), and it is exactly the same, but without the added sparkle, shimmer, and glitter.

Hope this helps!

answer 11
None of these products are lip stains in the traditional sense. They stay much longer than regular glosses or lipsticks, but they are not going to wear for 6+ hours like a true stain would. However, these are incredibly moisturizing and actually improve your lips over time. Plus, they are really easy to carry in your purse and apply without a mirror so don't be deterred by the fact that you have to reapply. I put mine on at 8am and it lasts until lunch, so you get 4+ hours out of them, which is still really good and your lips won't ever feel dried or cracked.
All of these products are really worth the money and since the product is solid and not a liquid in a tube, it lasts a long time.

wear and in-store purchase!
i was wondering if this lasts as long as the regular stain version does, or does it disappear quickly like a regular gloss if you drink water, etc.

also i can't find it in any store yet, but will it be in stores soon? i'd love to test it out.

It is in stores now. I wear a lipstick under this product and this product helps my lipstick last all day. This does not have a high shine but a gives a natural moisturized look, well aside from the shimmer. I am happy with its performance. I do reapply about 3 times a day (4 if I wear it into the evening) but it is soo easy.

It does last pretty long - several hours, even when I was drinking iced tea. I was actually surprised that it lasted so long. It's not super-long-lasting like some of the lipstains you can buy, but it does last for several hours, longer than a typical lip gloss or lip blam usually does.

These new lip lusters were in my sephora store when I went today (2/8/11), but if you call your local store they will quickly tell you if they are in stock.
The lip lusters are definitely sheerer than the original lip stain or matte version. I think they still last awhile, but since they aren't as deeply pigmented, I reapplied more frequently. But they still last 3+ hours. Frisky is my favorite shade - medium peachy-pink.

Pouty is the berry shade that best fits what you described, but be aware that it's also the brightest of the shades. It's a true fuschia berry. Frisky is a lighter pink, but it's got a peachy tint to it. Adored is going to be much lighter and too baby pink for what you want.
Based on the color that you want, I would suggest going for Enchanted in the original Natural Lip Stain with LipSurgence™ Technology:
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P255102&categoryId=C12001
It's a great medium, berry-rose shade that's very easy to wear for day or night.

Joy is more of a lip color than Glisten. Glisten is more sheer and it is shimmery. It is more pink than Joy. Joy is just glossy and slightly darker, and more of a coral. I would recommend Glisten over Joy if you don't mind shimmer.
answered 3 years, 1 month ago

answer 3
They are similar. I think if you love joy, you will love glisten. I think joy is a touch (a little little bit) darker than glisten. Not very noticeable once it is on the lips. They are different enough, with the lusters having shimmer, that you will not be upset or feel like you have two of the same color.

You will have choices, even among the textures. In the Matte, it will be most likely either Hope or Envy, in the Lip Tints it will be Enchanted or Moody, but in the Luster the colors I thought might be good were discontinued. Check them out, you might like them. I personally love the moisture in these and my lips feel great!
