I am always careful to wash my face after using any eye makeup remover as any cream or oil in the eyes will cause swelling and irritation.

I don't know if you're supposed to wash your face after, but I always do because it leaves me eye area oily. Try cleansing after and see if you wake up with an allergic reaction still. I find this formula to be REALLY mild, but every skin is different.

I don't generally wash/rinse my eyes after using this product and have never had an issue with my eyes swelling. I tend to be fairly sensitive to a lot of products too. Could be you are allergic to it or maybe something in the glitter.

I use my Sephora face wash after I use this because I only use the waterproof makeup remover for mascara. If you are using it on your entire face, I would probably recommend just rinsing your face with warm water.

Your answer is lame. After I sent the question and realized how LONG I'd have to wait for an answer I did call them. They are out of FACE eyemake up remover, the Sephore brand and the Philosophy brand as well. It is becoming a waste of time to go into that store. As a user of both products, I barely saw any difference, i mean yes lancome has a better formula, and wipes off the make up clean, but the sephora brand also does the exact same thing! You may have to use more liquid in your cotton for the sephora brand, but as you can see, the price is just way better.

If instead you meant does it remove oil-free makeup--yes! I find it removes all my eye and lip makeup wonderfully. Helps dissolve all products without pulling at the delicate eye area.

I don't see mineral oil written in the list of ingredients, but I am no chemist. The product does separate like an oil and water mixture though. It is ophthalmologist tested.

I would say it is not oil free. I feel the oil, it is gentle, and comes off easily when I wash my face after removing my waterproof mascara.

It is just a little oily. The oil in it is very gentle around your eyes. It doesn't annoy the eyes like some oils in eye makeup remover.

I definitely don't think it is unsafe. I believe it is just more likely to become less potent & not work as well for you.

With natural products it would be advisable to use within that time frame. However, it won't be harmful to you, but, like you mentioned, less potent. If you find you aren't using the standard size in the time frame, look into their travel size! It's a tiny bit more per ounce to buy the smaller one, but you won't have to worry about not using it up that way!!!

I've used the same bottle for over a year and it's been fine for me. I can't really answer to whether it's technically safe or not, but I've been just fine.

my guess is that the plant-derived ingredients would eventually turn (go bad) but I'd feel comfortable using it until I noticed a change in effectiveness or odor. Personally- I'd use the whole bottle before it expired.

I couldn't say for sure, but my best guess would be that--like all products with oils (including cooking oils, or even foods like walnuts)--there is a built-in shelf-life. Once they are exposed to air, oils break down over time and spoil. Hence, old butter or nuts will start to taste rancid. Probably same principle. If you have concerns about how quickly you'll use up the product, stick with the smaller container until you can gauge your usage.

I think the rule of thumb is that all cosmetic products "expire" after 6 months. I don't think they necessarily become harmful, although depending on how they are stored the chemical break could happen faster and could possibly be harmful--you are sticking this product in and around your eye, so err on the side of caution instead of frugality. I think it will still remove your make up if that is what you mean by "potent?"

I never noticed an expiration date, but then I use it daily and run out in about 2 months. I always have a backup bottle in the drawer. I've never had an issue with it growing stronger or becoming an irritant. Hope that helps.

I have been using the Sephora waterproof makeup remover for a couple years now and I've purchased both the regular and travel sizes. I recently used the travel size for vacation after it had been sitting in my cabinet for probably 6-8 months at least and it worked fine. I probably wouldn't try using the product if it had been sitting for over a year or something though, hope this helps!

I think this just has to do with bacteria having the potential to enter the bottle and grow. It is probably okay a bit beyond six months, but it is better to be safe than sorry and not go too much longer than that.

I have been using this eye makeup remover for nearly 6 months now & I have never noticed this. If anything, it brightens the skin around my eyes.

I have not noticed any darkening of my eyelids and have used it for a while to take off many different brands of eye makeup.

I've ben using this makeup remover for about a month now and have not noticed my eyelids darkening. I have pretty fair skin so I think something like that would stand out to me. Maybe try using a base or primer before your eyeshadow? Of if you are using a base or primer, maybe eliminate it to see if that helps.

I use a Q-Tip ( they have special makeup remover ones now) and I really soak it...the product lasts forever, so go ahead and soak the whole Q-tip. Then I start at one side of each eye lid and go across. You don't have to smear it...just wipe clean. Depending on how much makeup ( what kind of night/day its been) I might use more or less Q tips. When you see that the Q tip is saturated with make up,, grab another one and repeat until you got it all....Good luck and go easy on your eyelids and undereye skin...you don't wont wrinkles later on..... : )

I haven't noticed any skin darkening. My guess is you're seeing remnants of your eye shadow.

Being a redhead, I have very pale skin, and would definitely notice if it was making my eyelids darker - it is not. I would suggest an experiment: try not using the Urban Decay for awhile and see if there's a difference. Then go back to using it and compare. Good luck, Gorgeous!

i bet its your eye shadow. i've been using this for a few weeks and haven't noticed anything like that. i've got pretty fair skin, so i feel like i'd notice it if my eye lids were getting darker.
i use the remover when i've just worn mascara and on other days when i have full make up on.
also, i use urban decay eye primer (which is awesome, by the way) and haven't notices any skin-darkening from that either.

I also use the naked palette and sephora's waterproof makeup remover. I personally haven't noticed a change in my eyelid color. If you think either is the cause of it, you should stop using it for a while and make sure to take care of your eyes in the meantime, i.e. cucumber compresses, cool tea bags, etc. Do you let the remover sit on your eye for a moment before removing your make-up or are you using the cotton pad too aggressively? Scrubbing your eyelids can cause damage to your skin and make it thinner, which appears darker than the other skin on your face. I use two cotton pads, both soaked with remover. One I fold in half and put under my lower lashes and the second I put over my upper lid and down over my upper lashes and let it sit a moment before i gently press against my upper eyelid and swipe it down over the lower pad. I then carefully wipe my eyelashes down onto the bottom soaked cotton pad. Finally, I swipe the pad under my lower lashes towards my nose. I hope this was helpful.

You are probably not removing all of your make-up completely (or at least thats what it sounds like) and the darkness is what is left over from the eyeshadows. I always wash off with a facewash/make-up remover after removing with this remover. Philosopy's Purity is a good make-up remover/facewash if you dont already have one.

It is made with oil. Waterproof make up removers are only different from ones that are not waterproof removers because they contain oil. They contain oil because that is what helps get rid of the make up that is tough to get off.

The waterproof eye makeup remover has oil (castor). Sephora's regular eye makeup remover does not have oil, so go with that one.

I've been using this product for years, and I can't tell you for sure whether there is oil or not, BUT I did use it the entire time I had eyelash extensions and they stayed on forever, so.... I think it's safe?! I swear by this product. I almost lost my mind when they were sold out last year! Now I never am without 1-2 EXTRA in my cabinet. #addicted

well im not sure either but ill tell you that it feels a little greasy afterwards so not sure if its oil or a sort of moisterizer they put in it....go back and ask another associate at sephora and see if they know.

For me, it has left behind an oily residue, but if you are going to wash your face anyway..it is not that bad

More liquidity than oily, but it does have a slightly oily finish perfect for removing lip stain.

It does appear to be half oil. You have to give it a good shake to mix the separated parts. But it works! I'm thinking that it needs to be oily to work and be gentle. The only other product that works as well as this (that I've found) is Clinique's Take the Day Off, and it's the same with the oiliness.

To me it's not as oily as some that I've used. You have to shake it before use but it's not thick and I don't notice a bad residue like some other products I've tried.
