Are the retinoid pads supposed to be moist?
I feel like the obvious answer is "yes" but the kit didn't include much in the way of directions/product info.

i KNOW you have heard it 1 million times but i wish i could shout from the mountain tops....young women WEAR your SUNSCREEN! I am 60 yrs old and I SO WISH I hadn't worshiped the sun! I can say i do have nice skin but that is from being diligent in my skin regime. you don't have 2nd chances so take care of what you have!!!!!!

you are to add the retinoid solution (entire contents) into the container of retinoid pads. Discard the empty bottle and be sure to cover and properly close the pad container. They will be moist but not dripping.....hope this helps

The pads feel slightly moist to the touch, even on the top of the stack. I did save that inner plastic liner cover thingy that seems to make a good seal to try to keep the pads in good shape. The one failing of this kit is that there doesn't seem to be any instructions or directions in the box, all I could find was the skimpy directions on the end flap of the outer box. But I guess, maybe they thought that was enough info, who knows?

I am not sure by your question if you poored the contents of the brown bottle onto the pads, but if you did not, that is why they were not moist. They come to you dry in the container. I love the product, by the way!

You pour the liquid on the pads. The liquid Rerinoid is in the brown/tan glass bottle. Just pour it on the pads and use within three months or so.

If I remember correctly, somewhere on the package or bottle it said to pour the entire contents of the 2oz.retinoid solution on the pads. That's what I did and the pads work great. Hope that helps!

They're dry when you get them and you're supposed to pour the retinol solution in the brown bottle over the pads.

If you mean, how long do the pads stay good in the jar, it is recommended that you use them up within 3 months. With 60 pads in the jar, that's pretty easy to do. The moisturizer and serum have 12 month expiration times.

the pads last close to 3 monthes depending on if you use them everyday or not. the moisterizer lasted longer. had to get the pads before the cream.

It keeps my skin soft all day long. If you're talking about how long it lasts until it runs out, the moisturizer lasted me about 5 months, and I used it as part of both my morning and night routines.

Not really a good idea. Go on vacation, enjoy your tan, then when you feel ready, start using the products. This will lighten your skin since you will be increasing cell turnover and the new cells won't have the same concentration of melanin. Also, I personally wouldn't want to use a product that increases cell turnover while putting myself at risk for free radical damage precipitated by UV radiation. Use a face lotion with an SPF of at least 30, make sure it blocks both UVA/UVB and try to get something with an antioxidant. (antioxidants are supposed to be able to neutralize free radicals, i.e., getting to them before they get to your DNA and potentially cause mutations).

You can but the product will remove most of the fake tan so it's hardly worth the trouble to tan your face if you're going to use a product like this.

I WOULD ADVISE NOT TO TAN BECAUSE THERE IS RETIN A IN THE PADS. WHENERVER USING RETIN A YOU MUST ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN!!!!!! CAN I SAY IT ANY LOUDER?

No you should not, the retinoid makes your skin extra susceptible to burning and further damaging your skin. If you're going to tan anyway I'd go at least a week without using them.

Back of hands?
OK... can anyone clue me in... Why do we swipe along the back of our hands? Should I be putting moisturizer there too? What about SPF i the morning? Will it really matter? I love how my face feels and I do think I'm starting to see some results (1 week of use)... but I just don't really get the hands related aspect. Thanks!

To alleviate wrinkles and signs of aging on the hands, I know my hands look better after wiping with retinol solution, maybe even less age spots too?

It exfoliates that top layer of skin and makes the backs of your hands softer. You should definitely be using a good hand lotion.

Ladies forget that the back of their hands age also. So, to help keep the age spots and wrinkles from taking over, use this as you would your face. Might want to use gloves at night to help it sink in more and not get wiped off from the covers.

I wondered the same thing about the hands! They look great, but just curious why the hands...why not the neck or cleavage area...nope, swipe it on the back of your hands ladies....do see a difference in the overall appearance of my skin...my foundation has SPF, so I have myself covered since the product doesn't have it...

I use what's left on the retinol pad on the back of my hands only AFTER I use it on my neck. It DOES seem to make a difference, especially if you've been hard on your hands and not really given them much attention in the past (like me).
As far as applying the moisturizer (Miracle Worker) to the back of your hands too, that's up to you. Personally, I think it's too expensive to apply to hands when there are a lot of great hand lotions which offer the same benefits.

My dermatologist suggested to me many years ago that any anti-anging regime that I do to my face, I do to the back of my hands as well. That includes moisturizers with SPF. The skin on the back of your hands tend to age even quicker than the skin on your face because the skin on your hand is much thinner than the skin on your face. There is nothing more telling about a woman's age than the condition of her hands.
I have been using all of the retinoids, hydroquinone, serums, etc that I use of my face, on the back of my hands for about 5 years now, and the back of my hands are as smooth and soft as a baby's bottom. It only takes an extra 15 seconds of your time and just a tiny extra bit of product .

I use it around the outer edges of my eyes (where the crows feet live) but not in the softer eye socket area. That's too delicate an area and it could migrate into your eyes.

I've been using this kit for 2 days and the first day everything seemed fine. (steps: pads, concentrate then moisturizer) Today, I washed my face and applied the "Hope" oil free SPF 30 moisturizer. This afternoon, I noticed that my cheeks were really pink, irritated and dry. Am i doing something wrong? Should I discontinue using this?

I can tell you from experience ANYTHING with retinol will make your skin red and irritated when you FIRST start applying it.
Stick with it and the symtoms most always disappear as do your skin problems. I LOVE this product!

I would try not to use the hope in a Jar w SPF. Sometimes the SPF irritates my skin. I use the HOIJ (no SPF) and wait about 15 min and then apply the Philosophy supernatural (SPF 15) instead of a regular foundation.

Yes! You are not supposed to use the pads AND the concentrate together. It's either one or the other. I use the pads and moisturizer at night, and the concentrate and moisturizer in the AM.

I do not use the pads and the concentrate together. At night, after washing my face, I use the pads and moisturizer. In the morning, I use the concentrate and moisturizer. Maybe combination of the pads and concentrate is too much for your skin?

I've never had a problem or reaction to the product, so I can't give you any "real" advice. I know that if I had a reaction, I'd stop using the product for a few days to see if the issue cleared up and was actually related or could have possibly been something else.

I am only 24 so do not have many wrinkles yet. I do have a few though, mostly around my eyes. I am looking for a product to diminish the appearance of existing wrinkles and help prevent new wrinkles from forming. Does this product fit the bill? Am I too young for it?

Honestly .. you probably are to young.. :) but.. there is nothing wrong with using thier sunscreen products to prevent future wrinkles..!! I use the SPF 30.. use it during winter too!!! drink lots of water.. eat healthy foods.. and your skin will GLOW!!... I am 42 and NO ONE believes me.. because I always use sunscreen!!!

It seems to be diminishing the lines around my eyes, I have been using the kit for 2 weeks. I would think that one is never too young to take good care of their skin and if you start early, maybe you can put off needing "work" of the more invasive kind! Good luck!

Go for it. I am 27 and use it. I love Philosophy and I am hoping this set will make some of my fine lines disappear. I wish I started using these products before I had fine lines. I think you are smart for trying to take good care of your skin now.

I'm 24 and I had a few forehead micro hairline wrinkles forming, too. It's taken care of them, so far but I had entirely different reasons for buying this set. It, apparently, helps with pimples too. I can't imagine being an adult and having acne and wrinkles at the same time, but, hey, that's what happened to me. I've never broken out until I hit 23, weird. Every skin type is different and I found that I'm sensitive to Benzoyl Peroxide, this doesn't have it and that's why I tried it.

When, how often, and in what order, do you apply each product?
What is the routine? The directions on the bottles say to use as directed - and then I do not see detailed directions. For example - If I use the retinoid pads at night, do I apply the concentrate and moisturizer on top of that? Or don't use at the same time? Do I use a cleanser before applying the retinoid solution?

I read the directions as....use pads nightly, serum nightly, cream night and day. I use pads, serum, cream in pm and just cream in am. Although I think it wouldn't hurt sometimes in am and pm because sometimes I use it that way :).

I don't use it on my scalp. If it is causing you really bad itching and dry skin, you must be sensitive or allergic to something in the product.

I can't say that I felt "itchy", but my face was definitely peeling and flaking. I figured that by decreasing my pad use to every other day, I could maintain the beneficial aspects of the products without looking like a monster! If it does cause you to itch and the feeling doesn't go away, you could be sensitive to the retinoid or another ingredient. Remember sun exposure exacerbates the effects of a retinol/retinoid/Vitamin A product, so my advice is to not use these products against the recommendations of Philosophy (only use pads at night & use a sunscreen! I always use a face lotion with an SPF 30 or higher every day, and I personally don't use any of these products during the day since my own skin is so sensitive). Best of Luck!

I've been using this set for a couple of weeks now and notice a difference in my skin (for the BETTER!). I only use this set at night (cleaning with Purity); and in the morning I use Microdelivery wash, when hope is not enough serum, pangea eye cream and hope in a jar moisturizer WHICH I LUV!!!. I do NOT like the HIAJ w/spf at all. I haven't been using an spf and I know I should. Can anyone suggest an spf without my having to give up HIAJ moisturizer in the am? I have normal skin type.

I use the Philosphy supernatural air brush powder for a foundation and it has a SPF of fifteen. I really hate the feel of foundation on my skin, but this is so light and really does a great job. It won't cover everything, but does even out your skin tone.

Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral Powder SPF 45 0.12 oz, it is a powder and can be used over the moisturizer. I use hope in a jar too and hate the formula with the spf so I just use this over my face before I head out in the morning!

For SPF, I don't rely on the Hope in a Jar moisturizer, I use the actual Philosophy Sunscreen. It's thicker and serves a better purpose than the moisturizer with SPF. I asked one of the girls at the Sephora store and she told me that moisturizers with SPF don't offer as thorough of coverage.
