Questions & Answers for Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base

Question
Is this a moisturizer or a primer?
Should we skip moisturizer if we are using this. Or should we skip the primer for using this?

Does it moisturize enough for combination/oily skin (my skin is not too oily but does breakout every now and then)

They created it to be a primer but I think as people used it they realized it was a beautiful moisturizer. For me using both this and a moisturizer is too heavy and greasy. It's great because it's 2 in 1!!

yes, I had the same thought when I was browsing to purchase this product, I thought it was a "primer" we typically think of. It primes your face as a moisturizer, I applied silicone based primer on top of it when I needed extra priming for my foundations for extra flawless look. see my review if you need more info. hope this helps.

Primer is built into all Bobbi's moisturizers. You're good to apply makeup after this moisturizer!

This can be used alone or with a moisturizer. I do both depending on the day. (i have combo skin) It helps to make foundation go on more smoothly. It does have a great scent. I usually prefer no scent, but I like this.

This is a moisturizer and face primer in one. This is one of my favorite moisturizers by Bobbi Brown. It keeps my skin hydrated without looking or feeling greasy and keeps my makeup in place all day. A jar typically lasts me 2-3 months. (and that's using it once a day in the morning) If you buy this and use it and find that it is leaving your skin greasy then trust and believe me when I say, you are using too much. I find that this works great on people who are breakout prone with no issues. And it smells amazing!

I have combination skin and can be prone to breakouts too. This did not make me break out. However, I would recommend this more as a moisturizer for combo skin, and not so much as a primer. Even using a very small amount, I can tend to get a bit greasy with just this alone. It is smoothing and makes my skin feel great, but I use a mattifying primer over it if I'm going to apply makeup. So: for combo skin, I would say good day cream [except no SPF] but not necessarily good primer. Hope that helps!

This is a creamy, non-greasy moisturizer. I would say it's for any skin. I have normal to combination and works great for mine. You can also use it as a primer - I do and it works perfect.

The scent smells like grapefruit to me, and I do find it quite strong for the first 2-3 hours after applying it...it's not bad, it's just a bit too 'I'm eating a grapefruit right now' for me. It does dissipate to the point that it's scent free after a few hours though.
I hope this helps.

My guess is that it's because it is so fragranced. I imagine it would sting your eyes if it got into them.

probably because it's not formulated/packaged as an eye cream. Our eye area is a bit more delicate and sensitive than other parts of facial skin so you often see eye creams separately.

I'm assuming because it contains grapefruit oil and it would possibly cause burning...just a guess

Everyone's breakouts/acne are different because their underlying skin type is also different. This clogged my pores and left my skin in an extremely bumpy state after a 2.5 week period of using it daily.

Definitely more solid but not as dense as a balm. Definitely not a liquid like a lot of other primers. Really nice.

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Bis-Diglycerl Polyacyladipate-2, Butylene Glycol, PPG-2 Myristyl Ether Propionate, Cetyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Stearate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Squalene, Glyceryl Stearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Epilobium Angustifolium Extract, Yeast Extract, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root, Retinyl Palmitate, Beta-carotene, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit California), Tocopheryl Acetate, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, C12-15 Alkyl Octanoate, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Carbomer, PEG-20 Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Sodium Carbomer, Tetrasodium EDTA, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Limonene, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol.

So, it does look like there's at least "dimethicone crosspolymer" in it.

(I tried to keep typos to a minimum, but with words like "cyclopentasiloxane," I make no guarantees.)

Hi, I'm not sure about cones.
However, I have super sensitive skin and I cannot use just ANY foundation on my face. When I had exczma I used this and my skin actually healed afterward. However, it is quite oily even though it-says "oil free". I suggest you go in to a Sephora or Nordstrom counter and get a sample before you purchase, as it is quite pricey.

Good luck!

question about another answer below: why would you put a bb cream on top of foundation? I've heard of putting it underneath, if you want really full coverage, but on top seems counterproductive? I'm curious!

The beauty consultant told me to do it this way:
Base
SPF
Foundation
If you use a foundation that has SPF you may not be getting enough broad spectrum coverage. I am fair & use SPF 50!

Use base as first layer moisturizer, then a foundation with SPF and then a BB cream.
