Questions & Answers for Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15

Question
Which shade is right for my fair skin?
I have fair skin, brown hair, blue eyes. I normally wear i.d. bareminerals in fair (1c). I'm not sure what my undertones are. I've tried the Makeup Forever high def. foundation in ivory (115) and it made my face look too pink and was a little dark for me. I then tried Makeup Forever in marble (117), and this looked pretty good, but it's just a tad too yellow and dark. My face is a little pink from all the stuff I use to combat my acne, so I need a color that will neutralize that and help my face to match the rest of my body. I've heard a lot of great things about Bobbi Brown cosmetics, and I would love to try this foundation, but there seems to be a lot of options for fair skin, and I'm overwhelmed. I don't have a Sephora store near me, so I can't try an in-store sample. Which shade is right for me?

If MUFE HD #117 is just a little too yellow and dark, I would recommend getting Porcelain. If your neck is practically white and you've never been able to find something light enough, get Alabaster.
Alabaster, oddly, has never been put in the Color IQ database, but I would call it a 1R01.

I would definitely recommend going into a Sephora store and asking one of their specialists. I was pleasantly surprised when I went in and asked about foundation in general and she directed me straight to Bobbi Brown. Also, I was a darker shade than I thought I was. I've always been quite pale with pink undertones, but instead of being like, one of the porcelain fair shades, I ended up being Cool Beige.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but in regards to MUFE HD you're probably 110!

My closest shade in MUFE HD is 117 also, and I wear Sand 2.0 in Bobbi Brown! The shade right underneath that, Warm Ivory, I could wear also, but it's quite a bit more yellow! Hope that helps!

I have fair-medium skin with yellow undertones. In most foundations I wear the 2nd lightest shade. In Bobbi Brown I wear 2.5 warm sand. It sounds like your skin is quite fair and neutral tone. If I were you, I'd buy the 2 lightest shades and return one (0 and 00). The third shade (1) is a 'warm' and will probably be too yellow on you, but if 0 or 00 are too light you could try 2. Sephora has an excellent return policy. I also have problems with adult-acne and redness and this foundation evens me out quite well. It's also buildable so I can put a second layer on the reddest areas and it covers well but still looks natural.

BB Skin Foundation or NARS sheer glow foundation?

I prefer BB skin over Nars Sheer Glow. BB looked fantastic from the start. It was a bit more sheer than I usually wear with a natural finish. I felt more comfortable using it with a tinted powder (vs a translucent powder). Nars didn't look great immediately - it was a little heavier since it's more of a regular medium coverage than BB but after about 3 hrs of wear, Nars looked good on my skin. For reference, I wear Cool Beige 3.5 in BB and I have very oily skin so I was surprised BB worked so well for me.

I have used both foundations, and i'll have to say I love BB Skin Foundation a little more. With the Nars Sheer Glow I find it breakdown after a while (probably about hr 8), which is still a great foundation, but i think BB is more long wearing. It is also a little more natural looking. Either one is an excellent choice though.

I tried Nars sheer glow and found the color wasn't exactly the right match for me. With BB skin, it was a perfect match. Both products felt great on the face but BB blends better. I use very little or no setting powder with the BB.

Question
How pink/red is alabaster00?
How pink/red is alabaster00? I'm very pale, like white pale but my skin has a slight pink hint to it. However my face is very red. When I get foundations that are too deeply red they make me look like I'm wearing a mask. So just wondering if anyone who wears this color, if they are closer to the whiter side of pale?

If you're practically white on your neck with a bit of pink in your face, you will love this.
Oddly, Alabaster has never been put in the Color IQ database, but I would call it a 1R01.
I'm a perfect neutral on my neck (1Y01), but have a pinky face, and it's the best match I've ever had.

Alabaster 00 isn't the fairest shade I've seen, but it's pretty darn close and it does have a faint pink undertone. It's the holy grail for a friend of mine; she's very white, very cool-toned (lots of pink/blue undertones) and has a constant red flush to her cheeks. This doesn't quite cover all the red, but it tones the flush down to a natural looking blush as opposed to looking like she just came back from an intense workout.

"phenoxyethonol" is considered dangerous to the central nervous system in 100% concentrations. When used in cosmetics this is generally only used up to a 0.5-1.0% phenoxyethonol concentration.

The ingredients are listed on the box the foundation comes in, not the actual bottle and I would imagine that most people have thrown the box out and therefore are unable to list the ingredients. Perhaps you could go onto Bobbi Brown's website and find an ingredients list. However, I do know (because I purchased it and checked) that there are no parabens in it, at least there weren't at the time of my purchase. Hope this helps!

I loved this product until I read the "phenoxyethonol" preservative causes "central nervous system depression".

Question
Oil free? color help please :)
Hi there! This foundation sounds great, but I have a few questions. Is it oil free? What would be the correct color for light skin with pink undertones? Last, but not least does BB produce cruelty free products? Thanks for any help that you can give!

I have light skin with pink undertones and Cool Beige is perfect for me. The colors seem to run light and a bit yellow, but I was pleasantly surprised that Cool Beige was the best color match I've ever had. I don't know if it's oil-free, but I have adult acne and it doesn't make me break out at all.

I also use NC35. Remember that ALL of the BB foundations are very yellow, but some more than others. You could go with Beige (VERY peachy) or cool beige, which is NOT cool, more neutral on the yellow side - I did that. If these are too dark, which I doubt, you could go with Warm Sand. But those are the options. I think Beige is ridicolously peachy. BTW, this is an awesome foundation.

Question
Compare to MUFE HD foundation?
I've heard great reviews for both. Could you please compare these two foundations for me?
FYI, I'm searching for a natural-looking, medium-coverage, not too oily or sticky foundation.
I have sensitive skin, so I would like to know which is better for that too.
Please compare texture, coverage, how natural-looking, and other qualities! Thank you!

BB skin is a bit more sheer as it's light to medium coverage with a natural finish; MUFE is more of a true medium coverage, matte finish foundation. I have oily skin and didn't think I'd like BB Skin because it's a natural finish but it turned out lovely, especially with a tinted powder dusted lightly. MUFE accentuated my pores and fine lines/wrinkles. BB Skin didn't feel like I was wearing foundation at all, even with setting powder, whereas MUFE had a typical foundation feel.

The BB Skin foundation is beautiful and light-weight if you have pretty good skin to begin with. It won't cover acne scars or blemishes but will even out slight redness or discoloration. Seems to be more of a sheer to slightly buildable coverage. It doesn't look as if you are wearing a thick layer of makeup on your face. Great foundation for summer. The Makeup Forever HD foundation is totally different and has more pigment for covering acne, scars, darkness, and is more of a true medium coverage formula in my opinion. Still feels light and seems suitable for all skin types except very dry skin. I prefer Nars Sheer glow over the MUFE HD foundation. Looks less matte and more like real skin. there are less choices for shades in this foundation. Nars Sheer Glow is about a medium coverage as well but don't let the name fool you, its not sheer but I guess you coud go lighter handed if you wanted to adjust the coverage. Hope that helps!

I find this to be a light to medium coverage foundation. It will cover some redness but any dark blemishes would need some layering or use of concealer before-hand. It won't give you complete coverage.

Yes, it covers my significant acne scar very well. Build up the coverage with layering. However, if you have problem with your skin texture with boxcar dimples or bumps, like I do, the skin will still not be completely smooth. The pigmentation can be covered.

Question
Good over pigmented acne scars?
I've suffered from persistent acne for over 7 years, and now, though I'm glad to say the huge amount of breakouts have pretty much disappeared and my skin is now basically smooth, I still have many concentrated clusters of dark scars on my cheeks. I'm not exactly looking for a foundation to cover them by itself (because any foundation that is supposed to do that is WAYYY too heavy, and I do NOT want to look like I'm wearing foundation), but I'm looking for one that will still look natural with concealer over my cheeks.
Would this foundation work for that? If not, could you recommend another? Right now I'm using NARS Sheerglow.
Thank you!

I have acne scars and I find that this foundation has a great amount of coverage and has a very natural look. Make sure that you get matched with the appropriate shade and I think you will like the result. A concealer could be used if the acne scars are very dark, but this foundation really is very nice for uneven skin.
