There is no comparision, BB excels at this as I believe she created this gel eyeliner product about 10 years ago. I have tried so many others because her colors are really just black, even if it is labeled "violet", etc., but these are the best. If you want a fun color the only one I would say comes close is Buxom in the blue color. The other colors are not worth the not as good by a little texture, but the blue in Buxom is really pretty. Otherwise I only have BB. I've even tried the new Lancome and it is not as good as BB.

I also have Smashbox's eyeliner and I can see why it might wear off some people sooner than others. Are you using an eyeshadow primer? If not, I would suggest giving it a shot before you give up on Smashbox's product. Try Too Faced Shadow Insurance!

I actually prefer Stila Smudge Pots over Bobbi Brown's version. It seems much more rich and lasts me ALL DAY.

I hope this helps!

I have used many different brands and this is the best I have ever used. I bought it to go to Hawaii and it stayed in place all day through salt water, pool water and sweat. It is awesome. I have never had a friend hate it either.

I like the Bobbi Brown much better because it's creamy and smooth, so it doesn't tug as much. It makes for a smooth line much easier than Smashbox. Also, I have found that it doesn't dry out as fast and for the price it has lasted me way more than a year.

I find BB liners to be more moist and gel-like when compared to Smashbox liners. I have full sizes of both brands, and the Smashbox is firmer and drier. The Smashbox also dries out faster in the container, but I've never had that problem with BB.

I do want to say that I have never used either brand to line the bottom of my eye, since you asked specifically about that. But I will say the BB liner lasts longer on me than the Smashbox liner does.

This formula is much creamier than the Smashbox jet set- it also doesn't dry down as fast. For me- it doesn't last at all on the waterline because of the creamy consistency.

Its extremely creamy - it has a smoother consistancy than most other gel liners. It takes about 30 seconds to fully set, but once it does it lasts all day. No fading, no flaking. Its my favorite liner bar none.

This is way better than Smashbox Gel Liner. I used to have to be at work at 5am and I would apply this eyeliner at 4:30am and it would literally still be in the same place until I took it off at night.

I don't use this on the waterline, I'm not sure it is meant to be used that way. The Smashbox Jet Set eyeliner is intended to be used on the waterline (even though I find it does not last). Maybe ask a Sephora consultant at the store if the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner can be used on the waterline.

I've used the Smashbox liner before. Bobbi Brown's stays a million times better! There's really no comparison there. However, for me, it still disappears in my lower water line after about five hours. I know other girls who wear this in the water line without it budging... but I have very 'oily' eyes and nothing cuts it there.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with a brush. Would be nice if it did though.

I use sephora's gel liner brush... Iventryed other brushes with it (angled, regular, etc. and I found that the actual gel liner brush works best. Just make sure no matter what brush you use clean it right after! I forgot to clean it once & it got very hard. Nothing a little brush cleaner couldn't fix but I made sure I never forgot again. Lol Hope this helped. =)

No, it doesn't!

To use this you will need to buy an eyeliner brush. There are different types - angled and not angled...For about $25 you can buy Bobbi's eyeshadow brush that works well but isn't worth the price (mine snapped in two!). I'd look around and get a cheaper brush. I also prefer the ones that are not angled but that's just me.

No, you have to use a separate brush. For a thin line, I recommend a very fine-tip tapered brush which you can get at Sephora. For more control, I would recommend a slant-tip brush, or even a flat-tip brush. You want something with very firm bristles.

No, however Bobbi Brown does sell a liner brush that was specifically made for this liner however it costs almost as much as the brush. I have found though a great dupe is a precision eyeshadow brush or a very thin eyeshadow brush. I did not have a good experience using an angled or brow brush or an angled liner brush because of the consistency of the gel, it ends up clumping on the brush more often. A thin but thick bristled brush works loads better.

In my experience, no, it's not completely waterproof. It's fine if you have a light work out or take a quick shower and don't have water directed at your face, however it will run if you take a dive in the pool or sweat a lot. :( Hope that helps!

Smudgeable?
Can you smudge this eyeliner out so it's not a precise line, but more of a messy almost creamshadow look? Or is this really intended to be just a clean, defined eyeliner?

No. It does not smudge well. It is fabulous for a clean gel eyeliner look. When I want a smudged look, I use dark eyeshadow along the top of the eyeliner and smudge upward/outward. But the eyeliner itself dries so fast and then doesn't move, so if you try to smudge it much, it starts to get uneven. You can apply it wide or thin, though, depending on the look you are trying to achieve.

Yes, you can. However, you have to do this before it "sets". When I want a more natural look, I take a cotton swab and smudge the edge of the "line" that I created. Also, one can apply his/her eyeshadow on top of the eyeliner to soften the "line". This is more malleable than a "pen" eyeliner.

Smudge away! It's amazing the precision of the lines you can create with this amazing product, but you can definitely smudge until smoky. Just don't wait ten minutes to do it. By then, this stuff ain't movin'.

answer 6
It can be smudged, but you have to do it quickly before it dries. I always apply to one eye and smudge before applying to my other eye or else it will dry too fast and not be smudgable. It looks great smudged and works well at creating a smoky eye. It's also great to smudge eyeshadow in with it for a less defined line, too. Hope this helps you...

I think it's hard for any product to really stay on your waterline, but this product does help stay a little bit longer. What also helps is before you line your waterline to remove the excess liquid on your waterline with a Q-tip and set it with a power afterward.

YES! this was the number one reason i purchased this product because i have such difficulty keeping liner on my water line, i used to always put my liner there and after an hour it was gone! I researched forever went to many different makeup stores until i came across this gel liner. Most liquids and gels are not recommended for the water line but was just about the only one i found that was. Now i apply it in my water line and it stays for almost the entire day i have noticed after a while its there just not as dark as it was but it is still there.

What about the Espresso Ink or Violet Ink? Don't forget a brush like I did! This is my first go at Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliner and I'm thrilled with the results. I just used a wee bit of shadow for everyday then the liner. I think for an evening look I'd go for some bit of decorum and put a base of primer own first to ensure everything stays in place.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I don't wash my brushes after every use. I made the mistake of not doing that after trying this for the first time and when I went back the next day to use it I realized and my brush was so hard.
