Question
Can you sleep with this mascara on??
Since its all natural and nourishing and blah blah couldn't you technically sleep with this mascara on? Wouldn't that actually benefit your lashes or would it make them fall off? I would really like to know.

No, it is never ever a good idea to sleep with ANY eye makeup on because while you sleep, the makeup will migrate into your eyes. This is a result of both moving around while you sleep and the slight secretions from your eyeballs. This may sound gross, but trust me, it is much grosser to wake up with mascara and gunk at the corner of your eyes.

As good as this is for your lashes, it is certainly not something you want to put into your eyes.

Please remove before bedtime! :)

No you cant sleep with this on. You cant sleep with ANY makeup. This product isnt all natural, it just omits a few chemicals but that doesnt automatically make it natural or good for you. It wont make your lashes fall out, but it will smear all over your face and end up on your pillow and/or sheets and could stain them forever.

No, I wouldn't with rare exception. For one, eyes often water during sleep & you'd end up with black on your pillow case. Eyes also drain into your sinus so you would probably end up swallowing a small amount of the mascara which wouldn't kill you but probably isn't great. Plus you should be washing your face before you go to sleep & when you wake up so you're just going to have to reapply anyway to look your best. Just wash it off!

Well, as someone with eye allergies, I wouldn't recommend sleeping with any eye makeup on... My doc says my allergies needn't prevent me from wearing makeup, but did emphasize the need to keep things clean. Probably better for your pillowcases, too... :-)

I would not sleep in this mascara. Although I don't believe it would be doing any damage to your lashes, It would flake and give you terrible raccoon eyes in the morning. I would stick to wearing it during the day for it's benefits.

I'm not sure if it would do anything as far as benefitting your lashes or not, but generally its not good to sleep with anything that can actually get into your eye (eyeball area) while your sleeping. The mascara can flake off and it can get in there overnight and cause irritation and damage. Your lashes would probably be healthier with nothing on them at night and wearing this during the day anyway so they can be exposed to oxygen at some point.

I have never, never heard any beauty expert recommend sleeping with mascara on. Despite any beauty benefit from the argan oil, the rest of the ingredients are probably best washed off before bed. I would think you would want to keep them out of your eyes, where they would most likely end up if you slept in this.

Hi, Beyoootiful.
I am sure you're already aware of the no-no's of sleeping with mascara on, but seriously, not all of us remove it every night, religiously right?

Well, I am happy to tell you that if you sleep with this mascara on, nothing bad really happens to your eyes or lashes! The only bummer is that if you plan on creating a new makeup look, you might want to start from scratch and put on some fresh mascara... Though, you COULD just comb them a bit, and swipe on a few coats to make your lashes look "fresh" if you're in a hurry.

In regards to the whole oil being beneficial to your eyelashes, it's true. BUT if that's the perk you are looking for, I do suggest just buying the Argan Oil, placing a drop on a disposable mascara wand and brushing the serum through your lashes. This way you can condition them without worrying about sleeping with mascara.(It's not all too hygienic.)

I've done this since I have purchased the oil, and it's made my lashes super supple, and has helped them grow a bit.

Hope this helps! :)

Question
does it hold curl?
i have been using waterproof mascara which is the only thing that holds my curl. I have stick straight, ASIAN eyelashes that won't hold curl. I have used a TON of non-waterproof mascaras that just make my eyelashes droop down back to normal. does this hold curl? please, if you do not have lashes like mine, then please do not answer. preferably asians should answer lol

or can you recommend mascaras that work for asian lashes?
thanks! (:

I don't have lashes like yours but this mascara does clump, so it might not be the best choice. I've noticed that Buxom curls A LOT, so you might want to try it. I actually go back and comb out my lashes after using Buxom because of that.

I am not Asian but I have the same problem. I have a lot of very thin lashes that are so straight. This is probably the only non-waterproof mascara that I've tried that keeps my curl the exact same. I have no drooping what so ever. Even some waterproof ones cause a slight droop but not this one. I would try it then return it if for some reason you get some drooping.

I am Asian. My lashes are exactly like yours...short, stick-straight, and thin. My lashes also hold curl only with water-proof mascara's. I got the Josie Maran mascara as a sample. I actually like this mascara and will probably buy the regular size. I find that it doesn't hold curl as well as water-proof mascara's BUT it does hold curl. It's very natural looking and perfect for day use. I use shu uemura lash curler prior to using this mascara. Hope this helps.

I use lights cameras lashes. My best friend is 50%, I am mixed too. We both love it. She needs water proof and just tried tarte amazonian clay mascara and she swears by it now. Tare makes an awesome lash curler too. Fits the lash line perfectly. It is hard to get something to hold curl, you want it to dry firm but not so firm that the existent lashes you have fall out. I like lights cameras lashes. She prefers the amazonian clay mascara. Either way tarte makes awesome mascara. Josie maran is a mascara that has a smooth texture to it, has fibers if my vision is not betraying me. I do not find it gets stiff enough. If you want a very natural look it is nice. If you want volume, look else where. I do not think it dries stiff enough to hold a curl at all.

One of my eyes has stick-straight lashes (which is super annoying), and this didn't hold a curl very well for me. It seemed to work well on my other eye, which only needs a little help, but on my straight lashes they just kind of drooped back down again.

I really like BadGal from Benefit as far as holding a curl. I'm not Asian, but I've had really good luck making my straight-lashes eye look more like my curly-lashes eye :)

Yes, this mascara does hold curl! I have very straight, downward sloping lashes and always have to curl my lashes with an eyelash curler. this is the only non-waterproof mascara that has held curl. And it lasts all day and does not smudge. It also comes off easier. I have down that I lose less eyelashes too b/c I do not have to curl them as much and it comes off easy with regular eyemake up remover.

I am half chinese and have extremely straight lashes! I use a shu umera eyelash curler to curl my lashes before applying mascara and it helps a lot. Josie Maran's argan mascara does hold a curl pretty well, but I find that the formula is clump-prone so I would actually recommend Fresh Supernova, my old standby favorite.
To get a good curl, I do this:
Use the shu umera curler at the root, middle and tip of eyelash. Use one coat Fresh Supernova. Give it a minute or so to dry, then use the eyelash curler again (lighter, with less pressure this time) to restore any curl lost. Then apply another light coat of supernova for extra volume, or for more definition (like a false eyelash look) use Fresh's other mascara, Firebird.

I get great results with this procedure - I should also mention, my eyelashes aren't really that short. I have used LashFusion eyelash conditioner at night for a few months and it really made my eyelashes grow long and they hold a curl better. Good Luck!

Um yes in general but it depends. I use this on my top lashes because I find my lower lashes are the ones that cause the most smudge problems. If you have allergy eyes, you do not want this for your bottom lashes. I find water resistant is another way of saying this will smear. I do love it for a natural look on the top.

Firstly, some vegans feel that beeswax is not appropriate for vegans, others feel it's a 'gray' area. If you read Josie Maran's blog, the mascara is NOT listed as a vegan product, due to beeswax. The company clearly lists which products are/are not vegan here: http://josiemarancosmetics.typepad.com/josie_maran_cosmetics/2010/03/vegan-makeup.html

As someone who attempts to keep my diet purely vegan, I appreciate the full disclosure! In this case, I'm making an exception. I'd prefer a purely vegan product, but I'm satisfied that it's cruelty-free and seems to be ethically produced. I'm also pleased with the stated charitable endeavors/mission of this company-(keeping my fingers crossed it's not just green washing!)
Hope this helps!

My box did not have a 'no beeswax' seal, however it did have the Sephora Natural Seal. This seal doesn't indicate a vegan product, only that its natural and organic. Possibly that was the seal in question?? I'm not a vegan (vegetarian only) but my cousin is a strict vegan and she laughed off the notion that a product made by insects would be considered 'non vegan'. She also made a great point that honey is something the bees make anyway and doesn't need to be 'extracted' from their bodies (like say, milk) nor does it contain any dna from the bees (like say, eggs). Bee keeping is in NO way cruel and in fact is beneficial to bees because it keeps population levels
high. I hope this eases your mind a bit. Also, Jose Maran contributes some proceeds from her products to multiple charities. Another good reason to feel great about buying her cosmetics!

As a vegan I do not consider honey as degrading, painful or life shortening for the bees, so I do consider it vegan. Honey is a controversial thing in the vegan world. I eat and use honey for many reasons, including beauty routines in my professional esthetics practice. And in my green tea. Bees are essential to pollination and food production, especially the fruits and veggies that are my mainstay. Allows for more organic food production world wide. I would never boycott a bee.

The Josie Maran box I have doesn't have the no-beeswax symbol, so I can't answer that part of your question. Not all vegans consider deriving honey and beeswax cruel, because the bees aren't tortured or killed. But many also believe that to interfere with an animal (even an insect) in any way is cruel. So I could see how a product that contains beeswax is still considered "vegan", but that could also be a problem for some.
