Question
Can you wear it without mascara? or does it look white?

answer 1
You can if you don't put too much on your lashes. It goes on clear unless you "build it" or put too much then it will show white tinges at the end of your lashes, esp. if you have long, dark ones (like me). Just don't do too much and it will dry to a clear finish.

I wouldn't. I did it, and it looked fine at first, but by the end of the night, my lashes looked like they had a gluey film over them.

It looks clear, so yes, you can wear it w/o mascara. It is not like DIOR's lash boosting serum where it is opaque white.

You need to wear mascara. This product is not a stark thick white but definitely lightens your lashes. You don't need to wait to apply mascara.

It definitely dries to a clear finish. I need mascara because my lashes are very fair & short, but someone with long, dark lashes could probably use it without mascara.

THE PRODUCT IS RUNNIER. IT TAKES A LITTLE LONGER TO DRY AND HOLD THAT NICE CURL. THE NICE THING IS THAT IT DOESN'T GET GOOPY INSIDE THE CONTAINER OVER TIME WHICH INCREASES THE SHELF LIFE! GOOD STUFF.

It's just as good, the consistency is thinner, so it doesn't clump as the older, thicker formulation

Honestly, I like it way better.
The other one not didn't do as much...and this even nourishes.
The other did not hold a curl for me while this one does....note; I use a lash curler always so this makes my lashes even nicer and holds the curl like no other primer I've tried....no white goopy mess that makes lashes droop.

How long do you have to wait after applying this to apply mascara?
Do you apply mascara right away or wait a little while? Also what mascara do you use with this? It seemed to hold curl until I put my regular mascara on.

I apply mascara immediately. I use Mayb the Falsies or Colossal Volume or Estee Lauder Sumptuous, all of which are excellent defining mascaras on their own. I have no clumping problem.

I wait at least a minute, so that it's not "too wet" and "situated". I use drugstore mascaras, such as L'oreal Voluminous waterproof.

What works for me is to apply base to lashes on one eye, add mascara, then repeat on other eye. It dries too quickly for me otherwise. This is my first purchase of both base and Shiseido Perfect Mascara.

i usually wait a few minutes to layer on the mascara. it dries pretty quickly.. also a great mascara to use is clinique naturally glossy.. keeps things looking very natural with a clearly more dramatic look than just the base. also holds the curl with both products on.. amazing!

I feel it's not as good because I feel the old formula had more staying power. I could apply my mascara in the morning and be good to go well into the evening without having to reapply. Don't get me wrong; the new formula is not horrible it's just a bit of a disappointment.

The formula seems to be the same, which in my opinion was perfect to begin with. It adds volume, length and holds my curl without clumping. The brush is better than the original. It's smaller and makes it easier to apply the primer without clumping. In my opinion this is the best mascara primer I have ever tried!

Question
Compared to Lancome CILS BOOSTER XL?
Does anyone know how this product compares to Lancome's CILS BOOSTER XL? I love CILS but find that the bottle doesn't last as long as I want it to. The Shiseido Nourishing Base is supposed to be larger (.23 oz) but is it worth the switch?

I disagree - I think this product is better than Lancôme's. I have short Asian lashes that point downwards and are very sensitive to weight - I found that Lancôme's weighed down my lashes and un-did the curl I'd created with my eyelash curler, but the Shiseido one kept my lashes curled. I can't comment on the size since I returned the Lancôme one.

Question
Which mascara should I use on top?
I have tried both MUFE Smokey Lash and Diorshow mascaras on top of the mascara base, however, it seems to mute the blackness of the pigment. What mascara should I use to get intensely black lashes? Do I need a wetter formula for it to glide over the base better?

No. In my experience this does NOT look good if you do not put mascara on top. Although it lengthens the lashes and has a great texture (not clumpy or gooey), it make the ends of lashes look white/grey in a very obvious way, so you need to top it off with mascara.
