Questions & Answers for Urban Decay Naked Palette

Question
Do the eyeshadows crack easily?
I plan on taking this palette everywhere with me when I travel, but I wanted to see, for those of you who have taken this on trips (or maybe have dropped the palette a lot!), has anyone had any problems with the eyeshadows cracking? I've lost some small individual eyeshadows before because they've shattered before while in my bag and I would hate for that to happen to this one! Do you think I need to wrap this up in clothes, put it in my carry-on, etc.? Or is the case sturdy enough by itself?

Just a good make-up bag should do, These eye shadows are pretty tough, and the cover of the palette is pretty hard and tight to the shadow, so if it stays shut, it wont be going anywhere.

This case is very sturdy. i dropped it a couple of times and was scared that the shadows would crack. it stayed intact. don't worry about dropping it at all. the box protects it very well.

I have traveled with it, on more than one occasion. For my traveling, it is personally just a little too big. I take a carry on for up to two weeks. I really do not like to take more than I need. If you do not regularly have to deal with airlines, you probably do not mind bringing extras. In that case, you might not mind the space it takes up. It did not crack on me. I did wrap mine in a sweater and packed it with my clothes. I also held it shut with two hair ties. I think the danger is in its opening when traveling. Not really cracking. You would have to really drop it for it to crack. That said, we all know the airline people are not delicate with bags. I have had three bags break because of the airline workers. Twice I saw them do it right in front of me. For that reason, I would pack it up quite good. It is powder, so you will have no issues with it getting chucked. Be sure to take the primer in a zip bag if you are carrying on. If checking, no issues take what you want.

Well it would depend on you and how you want to treat the palette. I personally love my palette and will always have it in either my purse or carry on. I've dropped mine but none of my shadows cracked. But you know there is always that slight chance. But ultimately the choice is yours.

Hiya,.... I'm pretty mean to my Naked Palette.. I throw it in my purse and take it on every vacation I go on.. I've dropped it and kept it in a messy makeup bag I throw around...
While the packaging looks a little beat up on the outside (the velvet collects dust and dirt, and the gold leaf flakes off) The shadows, the mirror, the joints on the palette and just the overall condition (aside from aesthetics on the outside) has held up great. These shadows don't break or crack, and the palette itself definitely has not fallen apart or anything, despite the way I treat my things.

Ive used a variety of eye shadows from sephora and have found two things. One, sometimes the " highest rated" products are over rated. That being said - I will quickly comment on the naked palette by saying it was decent, but not nearly as amazing as some of the reviews on here have made it out to be. To its credit I will say the colors are quite nice, if that's your main concern- however quite similar to one another. My overall rating on palettes is mixed for UD because some of their colors are unpractical for anyone over the age of 16.
I think bareminerals comes In first for eyeshadows for a number of reasons.
1) pigment- originally they only had the loose powder but now they have two other kinds- equally as pigmented. As much as you put on your brush is up to you but with a primer ( always use primer !) only a little is really needed. Smooth texture with rich color
2)longevity- I use mine everyday and have had them last from 7 months - a year depending on how much you use it and if you use a primer
3) cost- 13 $ vs 17$ for urban decay shadows

I only wear Urban Decay and Lancome. You really get what you pay for when it comes to eye shadow. The higher quality eye shadow is highly pigmented, blends perfectly, and stays longer (make sure you buy a primer, though, makes a WORLD of difference). I recommend the urban decay primer.

You cannot change the shade of the primer that comes with the Naked palette. It does almost disappear when you put it on. I don't feel like it would be a problem for medium skin tone, especially since you will be putting eye shadow over it.

I think the original primer potion is what is included and it seems to be clear to that it disappears on any skin color. I do know they offer different colored versions--a golden one, for example--but the original version should work. When you first put it on, it may look like a like colored, ivory like foundation. But, you only need to use a little and you spread it on fairly thin. It will soak in almost instantly. You won't be able to see it, so don't worry about that. It will be there, however, to leave just the right amount of adhesion for your shadow to grab onto.

The primer that comes with this palette is a small size, not the full size so it's not like they can just switch out one for another shade. It's also colourless, pretty much. It looks like a pale flesh tone on the applicator but when you apply it, it disappears and just keeps your shadows from creasing and turning into a mess.

Question
Smoky eye--Naked or Naked2
I am a big fan of the smoky eye look. I have found that many palettes look online like they would be pigmented enough to do the smoky eye, but when I get them, they really aren't. I'm a brunette with olive skin, and can handle a dark shadow, especially at night. It seems like a lot of the palettes either are matte and just disappear, or are black and look ridiculous and don't blend well. Naked or Naked 2? I've got plenty of shadows for a daytime professional look.

I have a similar problem, and I think that warmed-toned shimmery shades work really well... So I would go with the Naked 1, just based on the fact that there are a bunch of warmer-toned and pigmented shimmery shades.
Maybe go into Sephora and try out the shades (swatch them on your forearms?) just so that you can see which go best on your skin tone...

PS: just based on what you said, i think that half baked would be a really good shade for you and maybe you just want to buy that instead of getting the entire palette if you're apprehensive about spending the money
click on the half baked shade at the top line ( http://www.sephora.com/eyeshadow-P309813?om_mmc=Googlepla&_requestid=42976&cm_mmc=us_search-_-GG-_-pla-_-{keyword}&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=1402668 )

The naked is more warm so it is better for people who have more warm undertone naked 2 is more cooler so it's great for people who are more pale cool undertone. As for the pigment it has great pigment, if you want it to be better you can try 1.eden the eyeshadow primer from urban decay it a little thicker so color will hold it. 2. You can use any eyeshadow primer then use a white shadow and or pencil as your base 3. You can wet the shadows.

Naked or Naked 2? STILL can't decide!
I have medium, NC35ish skin w/ very yellow undertones so I'm more suited for the original palette, but I know for a fact I won't use the two blue shades, Creep & Gunmetal. I like everything about the 2nd palette more but I'm afraid it'll be too cool and the 1st just seems more flattering in general for me. Thoughts?

I would definently go for the original palette. There are more matte colors, than the naked 2. Yes there are shimmery colors, and you can find a combination with just about everything. I own the naked 1 and i have never even touched the two blue shades, but i use all the others on a daily bases. Dont let those two colors push you away from this amazing palette.

I thought the same than you. I am a NW25 and believed I could only use the Naked palette and not the Naked2. Wrong! I love both palettes and the Naked2 lately even a little more. You will get great use out of both, there is no wrong decision. As for the blue shades, you may still want to use them with a fine brush as a liner. They look a little scary first, but they aren't. Every shade is beautiful, enjoy.

Either one will be great for you since they are universal neutral tones. However, it depends on what you prefer in terms of tones. Do you like warm tones over cool tones or vice versa. If you prefer warmer tones then Naked1 would be the best choice, if you prefer cooler tones then Naked2 is the way to go. They are both beautiful and would compliment your natural features its all about what you favor. I couldn't decide and eventually got both lol....Good luck!

I don't understand the big deal...?
I'm a huge UD fan and still am considered a beginner at make-up but I just don't understand what all the hype is about with the Naked Palletes. Personally, I think you're correct; I bought this palette and was disappointed with the colors (see my review for more info). They're very shiny and rather muddy-toned, not very "naked" at all. I think this palette is overpriced -- at $50 it only comes with 12 half-sized shadows, compared to, say, the Vice palette which at $59 comes with 20 full-size shadows. But a lot of people do seem to love it, so maybe it works better on those with certain skin colors.

I like one better than two, but I think it's totally preference, because they both have many colors that work with any skin color. I have all of them. In lauding the new naked basics. The naked basics is the only one I wouldn't recommend to anyone. The colors are powdery, I get it all over my cheekbones when I put it on and it doesn't have good pigment and it doesn't last long even with primer.
