Clear Calm Night Serum has essential oils in it so it is not oil free. It is moisturizing, which is nice, and my skin (sensitive) really seems to drink it in.

This moisturizer does a great job moisturizing my combination skin (oily t-zone, dry cheeks), but I'm not 100 percent sure that it will be enough hydration for very dry skin - especially during the winter. Also, it is NOT oil-free.

This is not a regular moisturizer. This product is designed to go underneath acne treatments to minimize negative effects like redness, inflammation, etc. It works very well for that, and it IS somewhat moisturizing. But if you're looking for a regular moisturizer, this is not it. REN does have some great moisturizers though!

Use one or the other. This is a moisturizing night serum built to combat blemishes at any stage while calming and healing your skin. Don't use something else with it unless it is a REN product because you are bound to mess up the reason certain products were created for.

I use this instead of applying moisturizer. My skin is on the oily side and a traditional moisturizer (even oil-free) leaves me feeling greasy. This is super light-weight and does a great job moisturizing my skin. If you really needed to use an additional lotion, I suppose it would be fine though.

It is not a night cream or moisturizer, it's a serum. So you use it under your moisturizer at night. I would probably not use both the serum and the gel in conjunction with your night cream because it would probably be a little thick and potentially clog your pores. I would alternate using the serum and gel every other night. But always use your moisturizer, it's essential! :)

I feel you have a great skin regimen going on, but I also feel you might be putting too many layers of products on your face. Your skin is a living part of your body and I think it needs to breath. I would replace the gel with this product. Do you have many blemishes? I think this will help you with that specifically. Also the Night Serum is very thick and luxe feeling, but not oily. I've been using this and an eye cream and have been feeling fine about it. Maybe if you feel like you need more moisture you could use a night cream over this, but really I think it's a great product and could probably stand alone.

If you have combo-oily skin, you may not even need a moisturizer when using this! This product does it all for me as a night treatment... The only thing I'll occasionally add on top is Rare Minerals Blemish Therapy as a spot treatment.

Of course, if your skin tends to be more dry, I don't think it would hurt to try this underneath the moisturizer you already use. It's a very gentle formula and shouldn't cause any irritation, unless the combo is too thick for your skin to "breathe".

No, this is enough moisturizer for your skin at night. Don't use something else because you could cancel out some key ingredients and render both substances useless. If you have dry skin, use this at night and a moisturizer with spf during the day. I highly reccomend checking out moisturizing products by REN because of the special ingredients they use.

I put on the REN serum (only one pump) and then I massage it into my skin until it is completely absored. I follow up with my moisturizer. I have had no problems with doing this and I actually think it's made my skin better.
You should have nothing to worry about as long as your moisturizer is noncomedongenic (sp?)! :)

It will not cause acne if worn underneath a moisturizer (at least, it hasn't for me). I apply this, then a layer of my acne treatment, then sometimes a light layer of my regular moisturizer. This product is used to minimize the negative effects of acne treatments (redness, peeling, etc). You don't NEED a moisturizer on top of this, but it's ok if you use one.

Can this be used during the day?

I recently decided to go on the REN ClearCalm line since I've read all the positive reviews on it. I only have the occasional breakout and wanted to reduce it as much as possible, so this is more of a preventative measure for me. This serum was my first choice of purchase since I mainly treat my pimple(s) at night and have been using it every night for almost a week under the Josie Maran Argan Oil (my usual moisturizer for night & day). I have gotten about 5 pimples since using this serum, but I believe my skin may be trying to adjust to the new ingredients so I am willing to give it more time. I did notice that my new pimples are not lasting as long as they use to though.

I have light, combo skin (more on the oily side on my t-zone) with noticeable pores. The JM Argan Oil does not make me greasy or break me out - it actually does a great job at balancing me out. My daytime routine is cleanse, moisturize, and prime before I apply my BE mineral foundation. My nighttime routine is cleanse, apply the REN serum, Philosophy's Help Me retinol (will soon change to PTR Night Fusion when I run out of the Help Me), moisturize.

I am aware there is the day fluid I can use for daytime treatment, but am wondering what the difference is between that and the night serum? They seem to have the same purpose. I'd rather not have to spend the extra $40 on an additional item if I can use the night serum for the day.

Even though it is supposed to be used at night, I have used it several times during the day, without a problem. My skin is not oily, but it is very acne prone. During the summer I don't need much moisturizing, but in the winter It gets quite dry and that's when I use this serum during the day. It works great for me, and I love to wear it under make up, instead of a primer. I wouldn't use it during the day for the summertime, it might be a little too much. Also, I would be careful using it during the day if you are gonna be outdoors for a long time. It is formulated to be used at night, so don't know how it would react under the sun exposure for an extended amount of time. I have not tried the day fluid, so I can't compare to that.

I have had that dilema also as I tried the sampler first and ran out of the day fluid first. I tried to use the night serum during the day and could feel the difference in my skin. Trust me the day is for day and the night is for night. They are not the same and they work together in conjunction with each other.
The skin absorbs the day fluid to fight bacteria we encounter during the day and the night works to fight and clear the skin while we are resting.

If you only have an occasional breakout you probably don't need to use this system at all.. But you could purchase this stuff and use it as spot treatment at night. I wouldn't use it during the day because of the moisturizing quality... might make your skin too oily in the daytime.

Not sure about day use for the REN Night Serum...I would contact the company directly regarding that. I think if you tried it during the day you'd need to make sure you use a good SPF as it contains essential oils and other ingredients that could cause pigmentation on your skin. Also, I have had luck in trying one new product at a time. This way I'm able to see if one specific product is helping/hurting my complexion. Best luck!

I am currently using the clay cleanser and day fluid, am & pm.. I have combo/acne/sensitive skin :( and I am trying to figure out the best skin regimen.. the day fluid is really light and doesnt seem like enough hydration, so I wanted to know if I should switch to the night serum? Also would it be alright to wash and moisturize (with night serum) just once a day (at night)? Usually when I use products twice a day I feel like its too much for my sensitive skin.. Honey, the day fluid is for... oh my gosh during the DAY! and the night serum is for... get ready for it... AT NIGHT! Use the day fluid during the day to mattify the skin, than use the night serum to moisturize the skin at night... VOILA! It helps to read.

In my personal opinion, acne scars are tough to get rid of completely without using Fraxel (laser) , and other invasive treatments. I have seen some improvement with my scars, but from what I have read, it takes about 6 weeks to see the product's full response to your skin, so I would try it and see.

I saw an improvement in my hyper pigmentation after one use (not completely gone but it was better). It shocked me because I didn't expect any results that quickly. If by "acne scars" you mean redness or hyper pigmentation then yes this will help.

I've been using this product for a few weeks now and my scars are going away and so are current flare ups. I had these annoying scars that would not go away and then I started using this and finally they are! My acne is also under control. I'll get occasional flare ups around my period. I recommend using Murad's Oil-Control Mattifier too, it leaves your face looking flawless without a lick of foundation.

I think it is good in combination with something else. I personally use Philosophy's Miracle worker with the night time serum. I have a family history of facial hair that leaves spots and the combination works for meas the old scars are definitly fading and it minimizes the new pimples from appearing. I also use the Philosophy's Help Me which fades marks also. Good luck.

The marks left behind after a bad breakout. I suffer from it also so I have learned to use an exfoliating wash that deep cleans my skin with no residue and then a good anti blemish routine. Not all products will work for everyone so you must find what works for your skin type. The use of a good fading product will clear the marks over time not overnight.

A hyperpigmented acne scar is a red or brown spot- darker than your skin color, that remains after a pimple has healed. They can take months to go away depending on the severity of the acne.

typically, on Caucasians, it's when your acne is gone, but you have redness with a depression on your skin. The redness typically goes away in 12 weeks, and the depression ends up looking like a large pore in a year.

Acne treatments before or after?

I use a 5% salicylic acne lotion at night before bed. (it's harsh but has almost completely cleared my skin and refined my pores)
I was hoping this Serum would help to balance out the dryness my skin has been experiencing because of the harsh treatment.
Would you recommend applying the serum first then the treatment? I'm worried applying the salicylic acid over top could simply dry the serum out that I've just applied. Thanks in advance!

What ever you put on your skin first is what will be absorbed the most. If your main goal is acne then apply the medication; if your goal is to moisturize then apply the serum first. Typically serums are applied first, but you could change it up depending how your skin feels that day. If I'm having dry patches, I won't put acne treatments directly on my skin.

If the salicylic acid is drying you out, apply that first then the serum. This way, the serum can replenish any moisture the SA is removing. I use an all-over 5.5% benzoyl peroxide treatment at night (after washing and toning) and follow up with the serum.

You don't have to worry about that. I put the serum and then my acne medication. It still works fine. I'll even dab a bit of the serum on a pimple to reduce the redness and let that settle for a few minutes and then I dab the medication on. You might even stop using your medication routinely! I have, this stuff works wonders! I have also been using Murad's Oil Mattifier as a day time moisturizer. I highly recommend it!

You can layer this under other products if you want to, but this actually doesn't help clear up acne. It helps add moisture, refine texture, and lighten hyper pigmentation from previous acne.

I think it can help with a good cleansing product. Thorough cleansing is the key to reducing the breakouts as well as a good anti blemish routine. Good luck. (P.S. I usually get bad breakouts around my PMS cycle and this system Day and Night helps to reduce the severity and the number of active pimples)
