it allot. It is about $20 dollors. But it depends on what state you live because every state has different tax systems. Roughly it would round up to $20 though.

Most GHD's come with a little heat proof pouch for easy packing even when it's very hot! I'm not sure if this package comes with one, but you can always send an email to the manufacturer and I'm sure they'd get back to you in a timely fashion.

Question
Are these better than the CHI irons?
I'm looking to buy a flatiron, but don't know which one to buy. The reviews for this one are really convincing, but is it better than the standard CHI straightener?

YES. I had a Chi before I had a GHD. The Chi worked geat until about 4-5 months in. Then all of a sudden I had static-y hair every single time I used it and it made my hair super flat. It also cracked after the first time I dropped it and kept snagging on my hair. My GHD is 7 years old and has still never made my hair static-y and has survived being dropped without any damage many times.

Definitely yes. I wasn't experienced with either. I bought the Chi first, and got pretty horrible results. At a friend's urging, I tried the ghd and my hair looked great. The CHI is no better than the $20 cheapies at Wal-Mart when compared to the ghd.

This thing is at least more than 20 times better than the CHI, compared to the ghd CHI is awful, and a waste of money at that.

The GHD website says that their irons are heated between 347-365 degrees Fahrenheit. I do not own one (but I too normally need an iron that reaches at least 400 degrees).

answer 2
there's no temperature setting, but the instructions manual actually states that it adjusts to your hair type and how much heat it needs to straighten well. i think it does just that!

answer 3
My classic does not have a temperature setting. I was a little hesitant when I bought my first flat iron because it lacks this feature. Even though the temperature gets high, the blades are designed to not fry your hair. It's more about learning pressure and t control. The harder and longer that you apply pressure to the hair, will result in super straight strands. For light touch ups, use light pressure and swift movements when stroking the iron over your hair.

I asked ghd customer service the same question over the phone, they told me that the IV or MK4 Styler is now called the classic but it is exactly the same iron. The Professional is a new model with the new black plates and has their newest heat technology. If you were happy with the IV, stick with the classic since according to ghd cs it is exactly the same except now its called the Classic.

Question
Tourmaline?
I see nothing in the product description mentioning that the ceramic plates contain tourmaline. I've even gone to the GHD website and they make no mention of it. Tourmaline in flat irons is the new "big deal", so I couldn't imagine why GHD would be so expensive and not have tourmaline. Does anyone who owns one know for sure???

I had the same question(actually wrote about it in my review for this iron) Trust me, you wont miss the tourmaline and really dont need it with GHD. I tried all kinds of professional irons with tourmaline because I thought the same thing as you but with the tourmaline on other top rated professional flat irons, my hair had more "fly aways" and static and didn't stay straight nearly as long as with the ghd. Trust me I have tried them all!, no other iron works as well as the ghd! it is the HOLY GRAIL Iron!

The plates are ceramic and extremely effective. Basically ceramic has shown to be just as effective as tourmaline or a combination of ceramic and tourmaline. I have used all the top professional irons that have tourmaline and I have found the ghd to be more effective and keeps the style for a longer time. This is one of the things people really love about the ghd compared to other irons.

answer 3
I think ghd has ceramic plates but I could be wrong. That said, my understanding is that cermaic and tourmaline are just two different types of technology-- one isn't necessarily better than the other. The real issue is finding an iron that uses it's type of plates in the most beneficial way (e.g. infra red, ion, or heat adjustment technology). The store reps told me that the ghd adjusts to your hair (don't ask me how) but I have one and i've been pleased with the results. Hope this helps!

There is no temperature setting. It's just really hot. With all straighteners in the past, I've just used it at the max temperature so it's not that big of a deal.

There is no heat setting, what is amazing about this straightener is that it will heat up to a certain degrees, but depending on thick your hair is (how hard you press the plates together) then it will get hotter.

Well the truth is that this does not have a heat setting, but in my opinion I kind of like it. When I got the flat iron it can with a little instruction book ad it explains how it has this thing in it that makes the iron hotter or cooler depending on your hair type. To be specific it said in the book that the iron's temperature can go from 315 degrees to I believe 415 degrees (not that sure). Anyways in my opinion I think it's still as good as if it had a heat setting.
