This primer works better than any other with glosses. UrbanDecay's is waxy and just makes the gloss slide (although it fills in lines and looks nice with liner/stick); THIS ONE dries matte/dry, and is really the best base for gloss.
Good luck!

Better than Urban Decay's Lip Primer?
I am currently using the Urban Decay Lip Primer which helps to keep my lipcolor from fading away in a matter of minutes, but it can also be a bit drying. I was wondering how the lip primers from Urban Decay and Too Faced measured up in comparison...has anyone tried both products??

Not dryinig to the lips and much lighter weight than urban decay! Feels like you are not wearing primer. I use it, dust on a little face powder (either foundation or setting), put on pencil and/or lip color/gloss. It's fabulous! I've tried some very expensive primers that do not work as well and as easy as this one!

I've tried both and I personally LOVE the lip insurance, but with either you should be using a lip treatment underneath to get that perfect pout and keep your lips hydrated all day. Try the Sugar lip treatment by Fresh! I only have to use it once or twice a day and its just amazing at locking in that moisture no matter what I put on my lips after that!

Hi,

In my opinion, the Too Faced is way better because my lips feel comfortable. It doesn't feel as if something is sitting on my lips. Since it's not a heavy product, it's dried almost immediately, and the lipstick looks true colored. It doesn't feel dry and fine lines are greatly diminished, as it fill the lines. I'm very pleased with this.

Hope this helps.

answer 10
I own both products - the UD primer works better to make colors show true - your real lip color is completely concreted over. The TF primer works better to moisturize and fill in all lines and make your lips not look dry. The color sticks to both primers equally good, and in my opinion lasts just as long. The only difference is the texture - UD is dryer and like a lipstick, so colors show up really true on it. UD is silky like a cream and treats your lips, your own color still shows thru a tiny bit.

Hi. I used the Urban Decay Lip Primer for a while. The texture was never 100% right and always felt weird and dried my lips as well. I have not tried this one yet from Too Faced but I'm about to purchase it right now. I stopped using Urban's eye shadow primer because Too Faced's was superior, and I suspect it will be the same with the lip primers. Good luck if you try it! Not many products here get 5-star ratings so I'm thinking it has to be more than ok. :)

Question
Apply just on the lips or around lips, too?
I have read about makeup artists applying a lip primer or concealer to the lips, including all around them in order to erase the lip line and prepare lips for lipstick and keep it from feathering. Can/should this be used that way as well? Or only applied like you would a balm, i.e., only on the lips themselves?

You could certainly tryy doing this, but I don't think this product is really made for that, it may be a bit drying for around the lip area. If you want more protection against feathering (especially with darker colors, like Scarlet Empress by Nars - love!), try the Too Faced Borderline lip pencil! Its an invisible "reverse liner" that acts almost just like a lipliner, but you put it just around the border of your lips to keep that color in place ;)

Only use this product on your lips, not the outer area. You don't want clogged pores!
Artists use concealer directly on the lips to neutralize their natural color before adding lipcolor, to make it stand out more against the skin. You can also use concealer around the lip area to contour your lip shape, or hide redness - do so with a light hand and a great brush.
This product neutralizes your lip color and smoothes your lip texture before other product application. I recommend using this product, or the concealer, but not both, unless you're just contouring around your lips with concealer but not painting directly on them with it.
Good luck!

I apply lip primer just over the lipline (pretty much as a balm, just a BIT atop the borders). TooFaced has the best overall; UrbanDecay's is softer and my second-fave.

TooFaced also has THE BEST (better than Nars or UrbanDecay) eye primer; it REALLY makes a difference!!

Apply a little bit of lip treatment (such as the Fresh Sugar lip treatment, awesome!), then apply the lip insurance directly beforeee putting on your lipstick/gloss. I've found that waiting a few second for the formula to get a little bit sticky before applying the lipstick helps it adhere better, therefore getting it to last even longer! If you apply when the lip insurance is still kind of wet and velvety, I'm sure it still works, but maybe just not as well as its potential!

It doesn't keep your lipstick/gloss from rubbing off, that is not what it is meant to do. It is meant to keep it from bleeding outside the lip line and in the creases of the lip. It acts in the same way an eye shadow primer does. It fills in all the lines so the makeup sets smoothly.

Hi,

One of our sons graduated this week and we were at a graduation function this morning where there was a lot of cheek kissing. I noticed that a lot of women were leaving lipstick on the cheeks of strangers, but when I kissed people I noticed there really wasn't any lipstick residue. I was careful not to kiss really hard which may have accounted for some of it, but all in all, I was really impressed because color remailed from breakfast to lunch. Of course, it wasn't as moist as it was one it started off, but still, it was on, which is more than I can say for other primers and for lip product alone. The other good thing is that it leaves my lips feeling natural and not tight and dry like I've felt with other primers.

Hope this helps.

This primer keeps lipstick on your lips, but if you blot it, or touch anything with it, of course the top layer will transfer. All any lip primer can do is keep the layer of lipstick touching the primer in place. To keep any lipstick from transferring off your lips, you need a layer on TOP of it to lock it in place - like the gloss end of Lorac's Co-Star's product. It's like a clear wall that prevents your lipstick from passing thru.

I found it too dry to use with a lip pencil, because it tugs and balls up. But it is GREAT if you ONLY wear lipstick.

it does work just about the same. I tried it with lip primer, lip liner and one of those anti-liners that out lines your lips to the lipstick won't feather.

It works best when its applied under the lip liner. Since the color is a slight nude shade it might make the lip liner a bit lighter if its applied over it.

if i were you, i would try lip balm, chapstick whatever FIRST pencil your lips in second and then apply this stuff after that you might want another layer of balm or chapstick if it gets a bit sticky.. i do that every morning except i use the sephora collection lip moisturizer stck for my last step & it is PERFECT. it lasts and lasts even if you're a "lip-licker" like i am

I use Too Faced Borderline to prevent any feathering when I have an intense pigmented lip color, such as bright red or hot pink. They work wonderful together and keep the color contained and bright for a long time.

Yes, you totally can use a lip pencil. However, I've found that I no longer seem to need lip pencil, since this product eliminates feathering, smudging, and just general "wandering" of my lipstick.

Yes. I use it like that daily. If you wait for the primer to fully dry, a pencil will go on really smoothly, and stay for hours.

Question
Lip Primers
I was looking for a lip primer. I look at reviews for the Urban Decay lip primer and it seemed as if people didn't like it. Just curious if two faced is even worth buying and if it works. Or if there are other lip primers that people can suggest.

mmmm. I loved the Urban Decay, it healed my lips and kept the lippy on even through my wedding day. I can't seem to find it anymore so bought this one, not as good, but almost.

This product is not worth it. Generally I am very happy with two faced products. The eye primers are excellent, no creasing and color is locked in all day. You do not get that effect with this product. I still had creasing and had to reapply my lipstick. NOT WORTH IT!

Lip Insurance is the best lip primer. It smooths out the lip so
your lipstick or lipgloss goes on flawlessly. For me it keeps my gloss lipstick on through beverages but not eating. If neither for hours. It keeps your color where you want it--on your lips even without liner.

I won't use anything else! I love this stuff. When you first start using it be careful not to get the product outside of you lip line as it will appear white if not covered by lipstick!

This product works great if you use it sparingly. The applicator is a sponge wand, like with lip glosses. You want to wipe off any globs that come out on the applicator, and just do a very very light coat on your lips, and maybe even blot on a tissue or your hand. Otherwise, it'll glob up like many reviewers say.

If you're only trying to keep your lipstick fresh, you might consider clear lip liner over your lips - for me, it does a better job.
