how can I get a sample of this product to try

What I would do is do your makeup normally and then go into a Sephora store and ask them if you can try it. They will show you how to correctly apply it and where to give you the best use and look. The employees are really knowledgeable and can show you if a different product is better for your skin or not! Good luck!

I don't know where you can get a free sample, but I just try to find a LM makeup counter and ask them to try it on. Then I walk around the mall for a while to see how it holds up.

Question
Best Way to Reduce Shine on your wedding day
I am getting married next week and doing my own makeup. I heard from a a makeup artist friend (who cannot attend) that I should avoid mineral makeup as it some times come off weird in photos.

I purchased the Laura Mercier Oil free foundation and primer and the loose setting powder. I am prone to breakouts and oiliness especially in the t-zone. I like the coverage of the Laura Mercier products, but I am still getting shiny in the t-zone a couple of hours after applying.

Should I purchase the pressed setting powder or is there another product you would recommend?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I really loved this product and would suggest it for your wedding day because it's not too strong so using the right amount isn't too hard. I would say that if you're worried about oil, maybe bring it along in your clutch purse but don't use it right away. After an hour, see if your face is getting oily and then adjust from there. Hope this helps! And congrats on your wedding!

I would recommend a light dusting of the Smooth Focus Shine Control after your foundation then keep it on hand for light touch ups. A little goes a long way with this stuff so because and not pile it on or it will look too chalky.

Good luck!

I would recommend this product, however, you may want to try it a few weeks before. Apply by pressing the pad in the powder just once. Then press it on your skin...move and press on skin and so on. If extra is left behind on skin simply brush off. Have fun and good luck ! : )

You can use this over ANY type of foundation. I typically use mineral foundation, but also use a tinted liquid moisturizer and a liquid to powder compact as well depending on the coverage I want/need. This works with everything I have tried it with.

This powder is a setting powder and is to be used before applying other powders, though it can be used alone. It has a greenish, bluish base that helps to even out reddish skin tones. It also helps to absorb oil and shine.

The thing is that everyone's skin reacts differently to different ingredients. I happen to be ultra sensitive to alot of natural ingredients, so you never know unless you try it on your own skin.

I have used this product and never saw additional breakouts.

I received a delux size sample of this, I know this broke me out because it is the only thing I changed in my routine, so I checked the ingredients, looked up the first ingredient (Ethylhexyl Palmitate) and found out that it is comedogenic. I do not have acne, just occasional breakouts, but this gave me several small bumps and a few white heads, I would stay away if your acne prone.

The box says "dermatologist tested," if that's any help. I also am prone to perioral dermatitis (a type of acne) and this has not caused a flare up. The powder also does not have parabens, talc, or fragrance, all of which can clog pores and irritate.

I do notice that this powder does make you look a bit paler but it is so sheer that I can guarantee that it wont look cakey or obvious. The pros really outweigh the cons here. I just grab some bronzer and wear that to give me a more tan look. Hope this helped!

i've used both powders. i personally like the urban decay one more because it mattified longer than the laura mercier one. the laura mercier one seems more refined compared to the urban decay powder. but when it comes to mattification (is that a word?), i'd go for urban decay. just dont drop it like i did.. the powder broke into smithereens

I tested both with a sephora beauty consultant, and honestly, I couldn't tell a difference. I chose to get this one by Laura Mercier because of its smaller compact size. Urban decay's is prettier on the outside, but definitely larger and more bulky. Either one is a great product of about the same price. I personally think this one is more convenient size-wise.

I use this for touch ups during the day, as well as the urban decay deslick in a tube. I would never sugest using the de slick right after doing your make up, because it will cause over drying and you WILL look cakey. I use the urban decay when I'm oily (I am an EXTREMELY oily and have acne prone skin), and the de slick absorbs all my excess oil, and then the powder to finish that off, and I look good for many many hours.

Basically, De slick in a tube, is for sucking up alot of your excess oil, if you are pretty oily, but I would suggest the LM powder for people who just get a little shiny and want to touch up their make up :)

Hope that helped! :)

I had wondered the same thing myself, and I am so glad I got this! I really like this LM powder better than Deslick. I think Deslick looks "powdery" not cakey, but like, dusty on your face. This LM smooth focus matte powder is awesome, and gives a smooth matte finish and looks great!
