I'm a very fair-skinned brunette too, and I've tried al the colors of this lipstain. "Joy"--the peach color, looks bad with fair skin and so does "Moody"--the deep berry color. "Amused" is much too bright a pink for fair-skinned people--it made me look like a clown!
Depending on the occasion, I would choose either "Charmed"--a light pink that very well compliments fair skin tones, "Lust"--a classic red that's ideal for special occasions, or "Enchanted"--a rose color that gives you a more natural, earthy look. I hope this helps you!

I don't have the product right next to me, but the one I bought is the glossy one and the color of the "pen" is orange: when you put it on it's a natural pink-peachy color, really nice!

A nice brownish pink would suit you well, without looking too harsh or dark. One of the Tarte lipstains (I forget the name!) looks like a plummy color, but when you put it on your skin it appears as a nice rosewood color -- not too dark. Try it. THe Tarte lipstains are REALLY good.

Break?
Did anyone else's break? The tip of mine broke in the first use, and I barley put any pressure on it. I also got one in the matte and that one broke an inch down inside the tube after 1 week of use. Is this normal?

I have 2 of these lip tints, I have never had a problem until low and behold I am using it for my sisters wedding makeup and it broke all the way at the bottom and landed on the floor. It was gross and had pieces of dog hair in it but I had to still use it because I had no time to make it to Sephora to exchange.

If you look on the tarte website there is a lot of people who have had that problem. I would try exchanging it through sephora or calling tarte's customer service. I think the "pencil tip" is a little awkward for the lips. It would be better just to have a round tip from the get go and not stick out so much at first. Im always afraid Im going to knock it off accidentally!

I never had a problem with mine breaking, but my sister decided to try to pull the twist up thing on the bottom, thinking it was a double sided pencil. The whole thing came out, but I was able to just put it right back in and it still works fine. Maybe you should try exchanging it for a new one?

I only use lip productsa on my cheeks when I really really need to =- otherwise, my feeling is why intermingle germs? Lips/our saliva/mouths hold a lot of germs, so personally I would NOT recommned EVERY doing this, with ANY lip stain, even if they have the word "cheek" on the label for dual-purpose...My dermatologish agrees.

You just twist it up for more product (like a normal lipstick or stick lip balm), no sharpening required! The very tip will get flat after use, but the diameter of the balm part is small enough that you don't have to keep it in a point for precise application.

i have blonde hair, green eyes, and fair skin and i purchased the lip stain in Lust and i love it. The color is a beautiful red and it complements my skin. The less you put on, the lighter the color is, so for everyday i only swipe a tiny bit on my lips, but for going out to dinner or going out, a little more really makes my lips pop!

Question
Compatible SPF Product??
I love these Tarte lipstains BUT I really wish they had SPF in them. Does anyone have a lip product with SPF they recommend to use with the lipstains? Do you use the spf over or under the lipstain? Ideally, I'd use the lipstain and then a lip gloss on top but I guess it is more important to have some SPF protection! Any recommendations??

Since the tarte lipstain is so moisturizing, I would definitely put it on first so you get the full benefits of the 6000% increase in moisture content, and then a lip gloss with spf. Something very clear and glossy would look really pretty, as it would have the effect of a layer of glass or ice on top of the color. Lip creams with spf would probably lighten the color and provide a more matte effect, which could be beneficial if you find the color too strong for you, or you just like a matte look. Clinique should have some spf glosses, but I think you could just check the lip treatment section at the local drug store (even Chapstick with spf would be better than nothing). The major issues with drug store spf glosses are quality and moisture content, and some of them have no color; as long as what you choose has spf, you already have those issues covered with the more expensive Tarte product. Good luck with your search! (I have the Tarte lipstain in Joy, and I just put it on with Chapstick to test it for you; it works, and doesn't rub all the color off. Just maybe wait a few minutes before you put the Chapstick on.)

I am very pale too, and I chose enchanted, because it is a buildable scarlet. It looks like you've been drinking something cold with one coat, and darkens progressively to a strawberry/raspberry red if you keep applying. It is perfect for fair skin and, since you control the pigmentation it is perceft for all ages. Myself (being sixteen), I like bright lips, but it all totally depends on your preferences. Good luck, I hope you find my advice helpful!

I have light skin, brown hair, hazel eyes and mild rosacea on my cheeks.

This winter my lips were so dry no amount of sugar scrub or toothbrush buffing stopped the flaking skin - I even had to use hydrocortisone to stop the swelling and redness around the edges. So when I read 6000% improvement in moisture retention, I was hopeful. I bought Enchanted, and agree that it's a good color. In hindsight I wish they would explain more what to expect - so here's what I found out...

It goes on slick, and has the same mint flavor as the sugar-based lip scrub. But the lightweight slick feeling is gone within 15 minutes. What's left behind is a light color stain. Your lips may feel dry but if you touch them, you'll realize they're not dried out - they're still soft and supple.

Even though in my head I knew they were still hydrated, I'd reapply it every couple hours through the day to 'magnify' the result, and because let's face it - you want to *feel* the creaminess on your lips, like other glosses or lipsticks, not just "know" it's working.

And that is the problem for me: The more you apply it, the color changes, becoming much brighter and emphasizing the coral rather than pink. After the third application it looks like I drank cherry Kool-Aid!

So if I had it to do over again I'd go with a sheer pink, which even if it's brighter doesn't look so 'jarring' as bright red-orange.
If you can resist to keep applying it, then Enchanted is a great color. If you like the *feeling* of creaminess on your lips, go with a pale pink that will come out rosier even with multiple applications.

It's a Catch-22 - and for $24, you need to love the results AND the color.
