I have used both & the time release cleanser is definitely milder than the clarifying cleanser though I like both. I usually use the time release one.

I have tried both but prefer the time-release product. Clarifying cleanser is too harsh for my skin and although works wonders, is annoying that I have to worry about dry patches and I have combination oily skin. I love the time-release product because it is refreshing, hydrating, and still helps with my mild acne. If you are only going to use a cleanser and no topical acne solution, clarifying cleanser should be okay, but the time-release works better if you plan to use a topical acne solution on top of it . Hope this helps!

Time release for sure. It has ingredients to help your skin retain its moisture.
I actually use both but i think it depends on what kind of acne you have. I usually have a mix of hormonal and just general. clarifying cleanser helped my face overall but did nothing for my huge problem areas around me chin and tended to make my face very dry. However i recently purchased the time - release and i havent had any hormonal breakouts since and it leaves my face not so dry but not oily either... but it doesn't really combat small white heads... so as of now I'm using both
The Time-Release Cleanser is so much less drying. I bought it as my first Murad Cleanser and loved how held my skin's moisture while reducing my breakouts (I have combination skin prone to acne and redness). After I ran out, I mistakenly bought the Clarifying Cleanser and thought I could every day as well, but after about 2 days of using the cleanser patches of dry skin appeared around my lips and nose, and even on my t-zone, though it's oil-zapping effects didn't last all day and only served to make my foundation coverage uneven. I tried using it 3 times a week and it didn't seem to matter either, strongly recommend the Time-Release.
I've been using this cleanser for 4-5 months and haven't noticed any changes in my complexion--I'm about to turn 30 and my adult acne has come back with vengeance. My skin is also oily & sensitive. Now that's it's winter, I find it really dries out my skin. I don't necessarily recommend this product :(
