Questions & Answers for TheBalm Shady Lady® Vol. 2

Question
Vol.1 and Vol.2... Can someone explain the difference, please?
I have shady Lady with the Cheetah print. Some of the shades on this Vol.2 palette looks the same as the one I have, Vol.1. The names are different, though. Does Anyone know how different these 2 palettes are? Is it worth having both palettes?

I have had 1 and 2 for over a year. 100% recommend volume 2 IF:
-you love palette 1 (you get 9 shadows for the price of less than 3 singles)
-you do not have balmbini (jane is a very versatile & popular shade, it's the closest dupe for UD mushroom)
-you like blue shadow/liner (bobbi is unique and gorgeous and totally different from Renee--it's a denim blue)
-you want a dupe for UD mildew (mary is similar)
-you wear warm colors and would like a gorgeous base (marissa is unique)
-you like pinks (danielle is a much frostier and lighter pink than lani)
and most especially if you wear/like soft rose lilac shades and/or have light skin and eyes and do not own jamie which is a very lovely unique my lids but better shadow

if you fit any 2 of these I strongly recommend adding volume 2. personally if I had to choose, I get more use from 2 but I've never found a dupe for renee or jordana and wheezie is pretty fab too.

I can only answer the 2nd question, as I don't have vol. 1, but yes, this is definitely worth getting. Amazing quality, gorgeous colors, and 9 pretty good-sized shadows for 40 bucks? Can't beat that!

Hey - I have Shady Lady Vol. 1 too. From what I have seen in the store, it really is not worth getting this palette as well. The shades are VERY similiar with very few exceptions...I would recommend taking a look at your Vol. 1, going to a Sephora store and seeing what shades are in this one, and if you like a particular one, just get that shade and save 25 bucks on the whole palette. Unless you're running low anyway...then why not :)

Hi,

They're worth it, because it's mostly different shades. It's a good deal because of the size of the shadows and their intensity.

Hope this helps.

It is definitely worth buying. You get 6 shadows for 40 bucks. The colors are different with the exception of one "caught in the act courtney", which is a shimmery brown. The rest are different. The first palette has a beautiful blue green color called "jealous jordana"

rich golden peach-apricot, it's really gorgeous, could possibly double as a blush, think orgasm without the glitter

It's a deep coral/tan color - looks really good with blues and browns. I use this color more than any other one in the palette. I use it mostly for work because it gives me a really nice conservative color (not nude) - add deep blue and you have an awesome night look :)

Mischevious Marissa is a shimmery gold color. It is in between a champagne, and metallic gold. A couple colors that are similar would be Urban Decay's Chopper and Smashbox's Ambient. Hope this helps!

I don't have a specific product in mind that I would compare this to. I would call the color a coppery pink color. I have been really impressed with all of the colors from this company so far. I generally don't like coppery colors, but it blends so nicely that I find myself using it more than I thought I would.

Question
Are each color a good size that will last?
What size are these since they are sold in a palette? Are they considered sample sizes and will not last very long? Have you added water to your brushes to use any of these colors for use as a liner?

The package says 17g/ net wt. 0.6oz.
These are about the size of a quarter so normal size, not sample size as far as I know.
They'd last a decent while if used correctly. This does have a bit of fallout tho so if you use it all the time it might go quickly.

These sizes are huge, almost full size, and bigger than most palettes out there. They are about double the shadow in Urban Decay's palettes.

these are very large shadows, as big as full size for many brands. 9 shadows total weight is .6 oz. they are also very pigmented. I've barely made a dent in any of them. the shadow liners have worked well wet, haven't tried wet as regular shadows though. these are also the ONLY shadows I can wear without primer and minimal creasing on oily lids. they contain some of the stuff in most primers. you'll want primer for wear but you won't need for color, these are the most pigmented shadows I own.

answer 4
I just checked the single shadows, and these ones are a little more than half of the full size ones: each single weighs .1 oz and this set of 9 weighs .6 oz, which makes each shadow on this set .06 oz, so a little more than half of the regular size.

They are 1" across, so like some brands' full size shadows but I don't know if full size compared to this specific brand as I don't have any of their singles. They don't look like samples at all to me, you get a lot of product.

I have Vol. 2 and there are no matte shades. A few with glitter, but most are a satin like finish. They have real fine sparkle but nothing super in your face.

They are mostly shimmery shadows with a couple of glittery ones. It doesnt have any *true* matte colors but the pigmentation is fantastic. I dont use primer and they last all day on me. ( And I live in the triple digit everyday hot and humid south).

Question
names please?
I can't believe they don't list the names of the shadows included! Am I missing something? If someone has volume 1 or 2 or both could you do me a big favor and list them? I have Balmbini with insane Jane and jealous jordana, which is awesome but nothing like the photo- more sparkly charcoal than the green it appears to be in the individual photos for single selling shadows (insane jane is my favorite and I don't think they sell it seperately...bummer ) so I'd love it if it is included in either volume, though volume 1 looks like it has a blue I'd adore. Sorry for the rambling question.

Hello Sosomoto:

If you zoom in to the picture right here on the site the names of each are listed right above the shadow along with whether it can be used as an eyeshadow, liner, or both. Even so here's the list (Volume 2 Only) of the names along with descriptions from left to right beginning with the top row....

*Decriptions are presented solely in my opinion

"Caught in the Act Courtney"
Shadow/Liner (Dark Brown w Sparkly Flecks)

"Feisty Felicia"
Shadow/Liner (Dark Plum)

"Insane Jane"
Shadow/Liner (Taupe/Pewter)

"Bossy Bobbi"
Shadow/Liner (Medium Teal Blue)

"Makeout Mary"
Shadow/Liner (Mossy Green)

"Just This Once Jamie"
Shadow (Mauve)

"Mischievous Marissa"
Shadow (Muted Coral)

"Tempting Tara"
Shadow (White)

"Devilish Danielle"
Shadow (Champagne)

Hope this helps! This palette is a real treat. ; )

Right now it is at the TJ Maxx chain (Marshalls, Ross) for $12, along with a TON of other Balm products, like skin care, all the other eye palettes, lip prodcuts, and gift sets. All brand new product, just overstock from the year.

volume 1 was their first palette, you can still buy some of the shades but each one is ltd edition. I think it's getting close to time for vol 3.....!!!!

if you want a "best of" for vol 1 I'd say jordana (fabulous gold flecked emerald liner shadow), renee (rich lightly shimmery navy-midnight blue liner shadow), and wheezie (satiny blue-grey--amazing smoky eye shade). lani is pretty gorgeous too. cannot wait for vol 3.

keep in mind these shadows are very good sized for a palette and extremely pigmented, absolutely worth every penny and believe me I am a bargain shopper.

unfortunately these are limited editions and so far release about 1 per year and of the 27 shadows in 3 palettes only 1 was a repeat. they did include 1 shade from vol 1 in balmbini (jordana). these have been gone everywhere for a long time and vol 2 should be leaving soon. you can purchase many of the individual shades.

I kinda wish I'd bought a bunch as an investment because the followers are pretty hardcore and in a couple years when the palettes run out replacements should sell for big bucks online lol.

at first I loved vol 1 more but in the end I liked 2 even more so maybe grab that one or vol 3 (haven't seen it yet in person but looks beautiful).
