I want this palette to be matte with no shiny, shimmery effect.

I am very, very tired of eye shadows with shimmer and metallics-they are not good for anyone over 35 really. This pallette looks terrific but I am hoping that they are of a velvety matte texture and not "shiny". Can anyone one confirm?

then you're outta luck.
though, you can pop out the colours and switch with other tarte shadows to customize it, you might find it's better value to just buy those and forget the pretty packaging.
the 2 liners are shimmery too.

7 out of the 10 colors have shimmer, but there are 3 that are matte and really pretty, a pale pink, a taupe and a brown.

Yes, the eyeshadows are velvety in texture. And, they shimmer rather than sparkle so the colors enhance the eyes without highlighting any imperfections. Lastly, the eyeshadow does not flake off into your eyes so it is non-irritating and is long-wearing. Go for it!

can i combine the two palettes?

Has anyone tried to transfer their fav shadows from the eye couture palette to this one, since it is refillable? I want to try it, b/c i love several colors in one and several in the other one and it would be nice to have them all in one palette. This case is also more comfortable (as to eyeliner and brush placement) than eye couture...

The shadows are the same size in both palletes. The shadows in this one come out easily and the magnetic base could hold any shadow that size. But when I tried to take the shadows out of the Eye Couture, I was unsuccessful and just ended up digging into the sides of the shadows. I think the shadows in the Eye Coutour pallete are glued in or something. You might be able to get them out but it would probably destroy the case. I agree this Femme Naturale pallete is much nicer than the other since the liner and brush have a space instead of a tiny elastic, but I like Eye Coutour too much to destroy it trying to mix and match. It could be possible though. It would also be easy to mix and match with the new Flower Child Refillable pallete.

I'd say go for it! I'd have never combined the colors myself that come right in this palette, so now that I've tried it, I'd combine them with the other palettes, too!

Anyone have a trick for avoiding getting shadow all over face?

I'm wondering if it's the included brush or what.. and it seems especially with the top row shadows, they always end up all over my nose & next to/under my eyes so I have lots of cleanup afterwards.

fold a tissue to hold under your eyes - right below your lashes, do your shadow, then all the extra falls onto the tissue, not your face, just toss it out when you're done.

also, try and do your eyes before your face, that way you can wipe any mistakes away without removing foundation, blush etc and wasting it, but the tissue trick alone should do it! It just takes a little getting used to holding it, but I use the heel of my hand, and can still use my hand to apply makeup/

You can get refill pans from the Tarte Cosmetics website. The colors are $10 each and are really limited, though. Unfortunately, it seems that it's a better deal to just buy a new pallet.

The shadows in this set do not have assigned names. The Femme Naturale shadows were chosen specifically and individually for this set. Check out the helpful instruction card that accompanies the palette! The card helps to show users 2 different looks which they can achieve using different combinations and applications of the amazing shades! And as always, mix and blend on your own!

Many of the colors have a VERY subtle pearlized sheen to them (nothing outrageously glittery like what you'll find with many Urban Decay shadows). If I were to compare the shimmer to another brand I might say the colors have a extremely subtle shimmer to them like Bobbi Brown colors. If I remember correctly, the completely matte colors were the soft pink/lilac (bottom row, second from left) and the red clay color (top row, first one on the right-hand side).

I asked one of the representatives at the store what you're supposed to refill it with and she said nothing. You're supposed to throw it away. She said Tarte doesn't make separate eyeshadows anymore and something about it being less costly to produce them in palettes and it's more affordable to the consumer and less waste produced. I thought, Well then why does it say it's refillable? I would hang on to it though...maybe you'll find another brand that will have refills that can fit into the palette.
