The comb is substantial, but not too heavy.
And yes, it does work. I did not realize how much it was needed until I got it. It not only detangles a mess of hair, but evenly distributes product (conditioner). I didn't realize how badly I was distributing it until I pulled the comb through. It wasn't that it was all on top, but it just wasn't pulled through evenly. The comb will take it through all the strands and make sure it is evenly distributed. You can then decide if you want to add more.
I have extremely thick, dry, chemcially-treated curly hair. And it eats up anything (conditioner) that touches it. I have recently begun using Ouidad and found the Moisture Lock and Curl Quencher to be the most useful on my style of hair. (The 12-min intensive also was a plus.) Hope this helps.

Yes it really works. It's heavier than a regular comb but you won't get carpal tunnel or anything by using it.

It's heavy, for anyone with arthritis or fibrimyalgia, on your bad days this probably isn't the comb to use. It does work quite well though. Also, if your bad days are just about every day ... save yourself 22$ +tax and get something with a lighter weight.

Yes, its heavier than the average comb. It's a detangler meaning use it in the shower when your hair is wet or damp. It doesn't rip out your hair. I would not recommend for small child to use on their own. An adult should adjust fine. Especially for the benefit of separating thick curly hair. Mine is from the motherland thick and tightly curled.

The comb is not light but it isn't insanely heavy either and since it does the job pretty darn well, I would overlook the slight weight difference. At least you know when you are handling it that it isn't made of cheap plastic.

It's ridiculously heavy, bulky, and awkward. I HATE ripping through my tangles but I returned it without even trying it once -- it's that clumsy-feeling in the hand.

It is not seamless, but the seams are very smooth. I looked for a seamless and I know that Magic Star Jumbo Rake is seamless, but I'm glad I got this instead. Had it for a good year and no snags of hair left on the teeth (I've had this experience with other combs).

yes the teeth are seamless. and the heavy plastic is probable so the teeth do not break. Great glide in my afrocentric curls.

yes, in my opinion the teeth are seemless; they are also thick and pointy. if my little 5 year old can sit for me while i comb her hair (without crying), I think it's worth trying. :-) she is very sensitive when it comes to detangling her hair, but she's done very well with this comb.

I have thin to medium-thickness hair which is long and also tangles easily. It works great for me. I think while it may have been designed for curly girls, it is also effective for the rest of us.

No this will not keep your hair wavy and tangle free. Unfortunately for people with wavy or curly hair once your hair is styled that's it. Anything you do to it after that will pull out the wave or curl. Unless you are wearing your hair straight NEVER use a brush on it. Use a pik. They are much better for wavy/curly hair and tend to work better too.

This breaks up tangles but it's not a substitute for anything else. It's not going to give you an specific style or anything else, though. It doesn't stop frizz - just pulls through the tangles. I found this comb uncomfortable to use because it's heavier than I expected once I started using it. I stopped using it and gave it away, because one of those pronged combs broke up the tangles more easily.

This works on any hair which tends to be tangled. It is a heavy comb - but it is like a super-sized wide tooth comb. It doesn't tug or rip at my hair (which can look like a birds nest when I wake up) but I often find it is easier to just wash it and condition it again if it is that tangled. It works great with a spray in conditioner as well. This is definitely NOT for a purse though.

I have wavy hair and it works great for me. Detangles and keeps my waves. But I use it right out of the shower with some detangling spray while my hair is still damp. When it dries it's wavy and manageable. Hope that helps!

I believe it's to be used on wet hair prior to applying product. Once you have the product in and do the rake and shake, you don't want anything combing through the hair.

It doesn't really matter even the box the comb comes in says that there is no preference its all up to you!...I would use it when your hair is wet cause I find when I comb my hair dry its a lot more painful and it just brakes up my curls and creates a frizzy mess!...So good luck and I hope this helped you! :)

I use it both ways and haven't had a problem. I usually detangle it dry so it is easier to shampoo. Then I use it after I have applied my styling product to wet hair.

If you have pretty curly hair I wouldn't use it on dry hair. It is kind of awkward to use but it works pretty well on detangling wet hair.

No use it on wet hair to detangle it dosent help to define curls at all.

This thing is strong enough to detangle type 4(a-c) curly hair. But you still got to put in the work. I'm 4b and 4c and it does a good job.

This product is great on african amercian natural hair. I just brought it and was worried that i wa swasting my money and that it would pull on my hair like other combs when my hair is wet. Well, dont worry it will not. It has to rakes which detangles the hair and it is very thick and durable. Take the chance and you will not regret it!

I believe I have 4a hair and it works well. I use it when my hair is still wet to evenly spread the conditioner as well as detangle my hair prior to rinsing and styling. If you use the comb after washing it will loosen the curls up a bit. Not sure what you are going for, but when I wear my hair curly, I like to use it when my hair is still wet. My curls are still bouncy and they are more defined.
When I am going to straighten my hair, I use the comb to comb out my hair.

It works great! I personally think that it works better on my hair, African American hair, than other combs, because of its design.
