Questions & Answers for Ouidad Tress Effects Styling Gel

Question
makes some hair crunchy?
I used it as directed, and i let it air dry, but some parts of my hair dry beautifully. Soft and natural. But some parts stay crunchy. Am i using too much product? (even tho i use less than recommended anyway). Or am i not raking it through my hair enough? Can anyone who has success with this product help me?

Mine has been a bit crunchy too, even with using a diffuser.

The rake and shake effect calls for alot of product. If you are scruncy just rake your fingers through your curls in the sections that have dried crunchy.

I find that when I use just a little and brush it through my hair before I start scrunching I get no crunchy feeling. Usually I get a crunch on the end only when I have put in too much or when I add more before it starts to dry. Good rule of thumb is to allow the hair to partially air dry after scrunching up before trying to add anything. If I need more at that point it is usually taken care of with a pea sized dollop.

Try experimenting a little more with amount & combing. I experienced the same thing initially but was so impressed with the parts that turned out good that I knew it had to be "operator error". If you have curly hair - you know it's always a challenge to find the right mix of product & patience. Plus, everyday is a different hair day! Good Luck!

Be sure to apply evenly throughout, If you find areas that are crunchy, those will be the areas that are uneven. In that situation, just use a blow dryer and comb with your fingers as you dry.

I don't think you should use more than a quarter size of this product. Maybe two quarters if you have a lot of hair.

I would get the crunchies top of my head, where I was touching my hair first. Use even less than what you're using (trial and error time!). Rake a few extra times, to evenly disperse the product. I use a blowdryer- I travel a lot, and I can't carry a diffuser attachment, so I set it to "low", cup my hair in one hand and blow dry through my hand (the hand is the "diffuser"). It took me several tries to figure out my winning combination. Good luck!

I also air dry my hair with this product. It will dry a little bit crunchy, but if you lightly scrunch your hair all the crunch comes right out. You can also use some of the Ouidad pomade to avoid causing any frizz while you do so.

I put it in my hair, and scrunch the curls with my hands (I found that the "raking" method made the product too sticky, and it took way too long). After that, I scrunch one more time with my towel. This helps get the excess product into the curl, and it dries well with less crunch.

No, you are not using too much product. I had the same problem. I really had good success with Ouidad Climate Control. No crunchies at all.

You may be using too much (happened to me) . Also, make sure you rub your hands together before applying--distributes it more evenly.

Question
Does this work well on wet hair?
I usually shower at night. So, I am looking for a product I can apply to my wavy, and damp hair to define the curls and keep away frizz while I let it air dry.

It's GREAT at night! I can use Botanical boost, or slightly dampen my hair in the morning (if it's dried yet...) and this reactivates my hair.

Yes! I usually wash hair at ngiht and apply product on wet hair. Then I clip my hair up like in a high ponytail, go to sleep, then wake up to defined, pretty curls that are 90% dry and ready for whatever curly style I'm going for that day.

Yes! It works great at night. In my opinion, Ouidad has mastered the "memory lock" piece. I have shoulder length, thick, curly hair. I shower at night, comb Ouidad thru & sleep on a towel. In the AM my curls look better than when I spend 5 hours trying to "not touch" & air dry during the day. Go for it!!

It would be better to let yur hair go au naturel at night and then make it damp in the morning and style it. That's what I do.

I prefer Tress Effect over the Climate control. I see no difference except with the smell. Tress Effects smells slightly like cloves. I have used this product since 1999, you cannot go wrong.

I have thick curly hair and this gel is too heavy for me. I love the heat and humidity gel. I use it with the leave in conditioner-but if your hair is fine-you could probably use it alone or simply use the botanical spray.

I can't speak for fine hair, as mine is the exact opposite. For me, this performed much better than the Climate Control. It has defined my curls and controlled frizz without giving me the wet look or weighing down my hair. The Climate Control was good, but I had to mix it with another gel to get control of frizz. I may have to blend some of the two together when our humidy hits, but Tress Effects will remain my main styling product. Note: The Moisure Lock is a terrific product, lasts a long time and I believe helps the gel perform to it's best. Just use a small amount!

I prefer the Climate Control to the Tress Effects. I have wavy hair that I encourage to curl with a diffuser. Tress Effects made my curls look good but feel crunchy, Climate Control makes them look and feel good and natural.

Do you mean to keep hair straightened? This product defines and sets curls and helps keep curl shape. It's excellent for getting rid of frizz, but I don't know what else it would do for straight hair besides help with frizz.

I have straight hair and I use this product. It makes my hair look thicker. It will not curl your hair. I don't think it fights frizz either. If you don't want to make it look thicker, there is no point or benefit to using this product if you have straight hair.

Question
There are not GMOs in this??
I am confused because the item description says no GMOs, but the ingredient list says otherwise. Is the "what it is formulated WITHOUT" list inaccurate?

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I'm not sure how you can tell that something is a GMO from an ingredient list unless it specifically says so. The bottle does not specifically say "no GMOs", but it also does not say that any of the ingredients are genetically modified. For example, for all I know the "Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Leaf Oil" could be from genetically modified cloves, but I have no way of knowing based on the ingredients list. If you are concerned, you may wish to contact the manufacturer.

How can you tell what ingredient(s) is(are) genetically altered? Why would modified ingredients hurt hair?

Question
Which is better tress effects or heat and humidity gel?
I have a combination of curls; classic curls, wavy curls, lose sprial curls, and some are straight with a slight wave. My waves are obviously done because I've been straightening my hair for 6 years. Okay so over all, my hair is healthy but frizzy. And my curls, seperated. So that causes even more frizz..
I'm looking for a strong hold and I don't care for the crunchiness or wet look. I just want a strong hold. So which should I use? Tress or H&H gel?

I have the same type of hair (curly, unruly, & frizzy) and I love the Tress effects gel in combination with the leave-in conditioner. Quidad has really made a product for curly hair that gives me the healthy look that I needed. I'm very happy with this product and will continue to purchase it. This is the first time I found something that actually works.

The climate control works better for me since in the south it's hot and rains a ton in the summer. But I have tried the tres effects too and I found that it provided good hold with the styling spray and no crunchies but it will frizz in high humidity... If your not sure get the trial sizes and experiment! You only really need a quarter size dollop max! With the ouidad gels a tiny bit goes a long way but if you find you need more don't be afraid to add some more!
