Questions & Answers for Illamasqua Matt Primer

Question
should you wear a matte primer and matte lotion at the same time?
i dont usually wear foundation daily but i like a clean, fresh matte finish to my face. i have oily skin and i just recently started to use a matte lotion made by cosmedicine, and i am wondering if i use it with this matte primer will my skin look too matte and/or dry? can i use this primer and nothing else? will it act as a moisturizer?

I disagree. Even with oily skin, as your skin ages you still need moisturizer. With Cosmedicine's Medi-matte, you may not need an extra primer, unless your skin's super oily. Mine is, and I ended up switching away from Medi-matte because combining it with a primer just made my face greasier. If Medi-matte doesn't work for you, I'd recommend trying Illamasqua Matt Primer with an oil-free lotion underneath it. Kate Somerville makes an oil-free that leaves a light finish and that works well under mattifying primers--the jar's pricey but it lasts awhile.

You definitely do not need anything additional at all with this one. This primer is for super oily skins only. It goes on clean and dry and stays that way, which is what super oily skinned people like me need and want. If you need a little moisture (our skins produce enough on their own), you might want to look at their satin primer instead.

Question
more about this product (smell, texture...)
I've heard the smell on this isn't great, true or not? also i heard that it's not like your typical silicone (i.e. silky) primer. is it like a lotion?how would you compare it to other matte primers (MUFE, Smashbox, NARS)? Thanks!!!

It has a standard sunscreen smell that fades after a while. The texture and mattifying effect are very similar to Smashbox; it leaves a slight sheen that turns matte after you apply finishing powder. Both primers wear for the same amount of time. With my very oily skin I had to blot and apply power after a couple of hours with both. Illamasqua’s not greasy or lotiony, like NARS’s spf primer is. I’d definitely recommend Illamasqua over NARS.

That's amazing to me because one of the things I love about this primer is that its completely unscented! How odd! Not only that but the items that Illamasqua does scent are all very light and sugary (like a very faint and pleasant vanilla). This is perfect for super oily skin. It keeps you dry for hours. Does not go on like a glorified moisturizer. Contains no icky, pore clogging silicone. Goes on feeling clean and dry. If you are looking for moisture, you will want their satin primer and not the Matt one here.

Question
When is this product going to be in stock?
I've been checking for weeks, but on-line and in store it has been out of stock for quite a while. I'd try the satin primer but I tend to be oily in the t-zone.
Thanks

If you're oily at all, I'd recommend this over the satin primer, even though Sephora tends to have problems keeping it in stock. Sephora is really good about contacting you to let you know when the product is in stock, if you click the link.

For me no, I actually have had some breakouts since swithcing to this primer. I do think it is listed like that though. For me this prime is very heavy, nonabsorbent and overall did not help control the oil. Also, within the first week of using I noticed 2 breakouts, something I normally only see once monthly. I would recommend trying smashbox primer in light finish, if your skin is oily. However, some people have reported breakouts with that primer also. But for me it worked pretty good. I'm still searching for the perfect mattifying primer and foundation duo. I have recently read reviews on trying monistat chaffing cream for a primer, because the same base is in smashbox primer as that one. I haven't tried it yet, but will let you know. Hope this helps.
