My daughter uses the tan kit and she is biracial (black/white). She is pretty dark especially in the summer when she's been out in the sun. I don't think the color would be good for dark AA skin but for mixed or darker mediums it is fine. HTH

Yes, the tan does work on medium to dark African Americans, because I am usually a medium/medium dark but in this product I had to purchase a tan and it works great !

No, I would not recommend this for African american skin. I am Italian with a moderate tan skin tone and the color is just right, if you have milk chocolate colored skin or even mocha colored skin this will wash you out and most likely make you a little ghostly.

I feel like the Tan kit would work for medium skintone, but would definatley not work for darker skintones. My skin is between medium and dark, leaning more towards the dark and this color did not match well.

The medium complexion is for light to dark African Americans and medium dark to dark Whites. But a better shade for dark skin tones would be tan or a darker shade.

I would normally have gotten the medium but because it is summer I got the tan. My mother is darker than me and she also got tan. Because it it buildable coverages, so is the color.

The medium color has more peachy undertones while the tan is more yellow undertones. I would not recommend tan for someone who isn't tan all year round.

Hey, So this was my first time ordering this set and am not sure if the colour is right.

I got confused with lackof colour selection. I have light skin and dirty blonde hair. But, I tan very easily and after spending the summer out in the sun I am pretty tanned. So, I have a tan but my face always is lighter then the rest of me because it doesnt really tan with spf. I didnt do much research on the colouring before purchasing this and thought tan was the next colour before medium.
So, my question is will the tan be way to dark for a white girl? Should I wait until I receive it or should I just order a lighter shade before I get the package and just return the tan. Because I am really excited to try this product and I have run out of foundation, concealer etc.

LOL, I purchased the Tan kit and it is actually light (considered it is called "tan") I'm asian so my skin tone is a bit darker, not by far though. I also tan though. The foundation is very light, so if you want to "build it on" you can. I personally think it's more nude than tan...definately not your typical bronzer. Hope this helps.

I'm the same way, I'm pretty tan in the summer but just kinda normal looking skin regularly and I am white with light brown hair... I wasn't sure what color to get either but I went with the tan because I'd rather be darker than lighter you know? And it looks great, it matches me nicely.

A white girl can pull this off. but you better have some self tanner or something on the rest of your body so you don't have pumpkin face syndrome! lol :) i love this product. I'm medium skin w/ blonde hair & i love it!

I have hyper-pigmented skin also from acne (I have acne scars). I am african-american (bi-racial/tan). I bought this in hopes of finding a not so heavy alternative. The coverage provided is scary! You can see the hyper-pigment through the concealer and the founation made me look ashy and dry. I recommend Make-up Forever. I have been using that for 1 year and I was wrong to think that there is something better on the market. I use the liquid foundation (hd foundation) in color 165 and the duo mat powder foundation in 214. Trust me, go in and try this line you will not be disappointed. My face looks flawless with this stuff. I finish it with a product called Model in a bottle which is a make-up setting spray so that I have no need to touch-up. I was on a plane from Boston, MA to San Jose, CA and my face was in tact!

yes the cover concealer tan works awesome. you might also look into the eye brightener you can apply under your eyes. it works really well also.

there really good sizes and they last for a while i got mine in january and i still have it and use it and its already almost june the powders about the size of the whole hand minus the fingers lol and the concealer is smaller but it goes along way

the primer comes in a mini tube of 8 ml.however this has lasted me some time now since i use it on my t-zone only.the buildable cover is a small size as well but this too is the perfect size and will last a long time as u only have to use it for cover on areas required.the mineral compact is a full size compact.the aplicators that come with it are a true miracle.
i asked for assistance at the store if i should choose a medium or tan and i was advices tan since i have a darker and more tan complexion.it would be best for u to go and test the colors out at the store.

Unsure if I need medium or Tan, any guidelines?
I need help choosing the shade for my skintone. I'm usually darker than a medium shade plus I have dark circles that seem harder to cover lately. I 've read the reviews & even more confused because some ppl say tan is too yellow? I m a caucasian hazel eyes,lt brn hr, but skin is borderline olive toned. Bare essentials medium is too light & ashy(grey) for my skin. Any sugggestions?

darker skintons do tan lighter skin tones do medium if you a little bit brown medium works but tans more of a bronze person or darker i wear medium and it fits me perfect but hopefully this summer ill be tan and need the tan color

Personally bare escentuals isn't something for darker toned girls. I've been warned away from it. When some personnel try to put it on my skin it came out ashy and they'd have to eat their words about the product. Though most powders tend to lay on top of your skin like some cheap blanket, this sephora package completely masters the problem. It really blends into your skin it doesn't come off feeling or looking caked on. Take the leap of faith and go for the tan. You can determine the darkness or lightness of the effect by how much you put on.

I am normally have a fair complexion. RIght now I do have a little summer color. I wear bare minerals fairly light in the winter and light in the summer. I don't want to buy light in this kit for the fact it may be too light. Do you have a color suggestion?

I picked the tan color in this product. It worked great for me. I have a medium skin tone. It was a touch darker than the Tan No. 2 Max Factor Pancake foundation I normally wear, but close. Based on my experience, if you are fair skinned, with a tan, I would probably try the medium. Hope this helps.

Bare minerals Fairly Light was my color as well and I use the light kit in this collection. MY skin tends to redden in the sun and I have pink undertones and this covered them well and evened out my skin without washing me out.

I'm Asian and have light skin. I ended up buying both the medium and tan, but returned the tan. The tan gives and orange finish...medium was much closer to my skin color.
