does the base work for fair skin?

I am quite fair - auburn hair, blue eyes, freckles - and would definitely purchase this palette if I thought the base would be light enough. As shown in the photo it looks dark. Any thoughts?

The "base" color is the one in the left bottom corner. It is a very light color. In my opinion, the two hardest to get onto your skin is the "base" and the "highlight" colors. It feels smooth on your fingers but its hard to get on to eyelids, even though i use primers. Their regular 5-color palettes go on skin much easier. Also, the "highlighter" formula flakes easily so if you accidentally push it a bit hard, it will all flake off instead of just creating a little dent like regular shadow formulas....
