Question
How many boxes would I need
I was wondering for perfect coverage...how many boxes of the hair color would I need for thick hair past my shoulders?

For a reference point, my hair is very thick but also very dense, meaning not only is my individual hair strands thick I also have more strands of hair per square cm than normal density hair/the average person. As for length my hair 'breaks' at the shoulder but is not really below the shoulder.

One box would not have been enough for adequate coverage, 2 boxes was just enough. If my hair was past my shoulders I would require 3 boxes or more depending on how much past my shoulders.

It's still cheaper than going to the salon every 4 weeks though...

This box contains 5 ozs of hair color, where most box color only has 4 ozs. It will cover more, but you may want to get a second box just in case you need it. Sephora's great about taking stuff back if you don't need/want it.

Yes, this product covers grays for sure. To make sure that you get all those annoying gray hairs, have a friend help you put the product on.

Question
Brunette color
I currently color my hair at home and choose "light brown". This "light brown" does appear quite a bit darker and comments here are that the shade is even darker than appears on the box. Is that accurate?

The hair color is quite a bit darker than the box. I had light brown hair with alot of highlights and used the medium golden brown and I ended up with dark brown hair. It is now lighting up after 4 weeks. The next box I use will be quite a bit lighter.

Question
Is this a color treatment? Does it content ammonia?
My hair has been colored many time, and have uneven color top to bottom, if I got this dark color, will it even it out? I have a natural dark black brown.
Is this a color treatment or color dye? Will it damage my hair? Does it have ammonia in it?

They include a serum to put on prior to coloring and I think it helps with the evening of the color. I had many highlights and assorted tones and it even out the color like I havd never had highlights. I used medium golden brown and it turned my hair dark brown and the color is permanent. I have had it for 5 weeks now and it's barely lightening.

How much darker will these browns really be?
Should I be prepared for nearly black if I have previously colored hair that is naturally dark brown and hair is about 30% gray. Are we talking nearly black?

If you want your hair really dark I would go with the brown tones. I can not imagine using there darkest. It would be jet black!

The preteat is a serum that you put on your hair and leave it before coloring. I guess this might even out the hair color. I have long hair and one box was plenty.

I am also m.brown and i use "jacklyn". I also found it to be darker than expected however after 3 washes it is perfect. I would never redye unless it was a catastrophy. you cant dye lighter right now as your cuticle is full of dark dye.
