Questions & Answers for Benefit Cosmetics "Hello Flawless!" SPF 15

Question
How long does this product last?
I understand you can build your coverage, but I saw a review where someone said they got maybe 3-5 uses before they hit pan...I was also thinking with the amount the product comes in, it might run out a little fast.

How long can you expect this to last if you like medium-to-full coverage?

Also, I'm stuck on shade selection. I was recommended "Petal" on here, but I'm really stuck between fair and medium as far as skin tone goes lol. I have BOTH pinks and yellow/neutral tones in my skin.

Thanks!

My suggestion is to skip this product. It really is a light coverage product and the color selection is very strange.

I have used this at least 5 days per week since I purchased it and haven't seen the bottom yet (purchased about 5 weeks ago). I have found that swiping a larger (than came with the product) diamond or pear shaped sponge (the Laura Mercier and Body Shop ones work great for this) gives a medium to full coverage look without re-dipping.

Since the powder is so finely milled, I think using a brush in the product can sometimes waste it~I have found this with most well made pressed powder products since brushing the top of the product creates the dust that usually blown to the waste bin. . I keep a tissue out, get my sponge on the product and dab the excess on the tissue. Then when I am done with the sponge and am ready to use a brush for concealing and/or buffing for the finishing step, I use the bit of excess I tapped onto the tissue.

i use this everyday! you will get a lot of use out of it. i know because i really put on a good amount. i'd recommend using the sponge it comes with over the brush. the sponge adds more coverage while the brush is just for a finish. this stuff will cover up ANYTHING! i am very happy with it. as for the color, i have "me vain? champagne" and i have a little bit of red to my skin. it matches my skin nicely, but it does make you look a little paler than normal so definately put on a little bronzer! overall it virtually erases my blemishes and makes my skin look smooth and healthy. hope this helps!

its not a huge amount but its enough for full coverage. Plus if you put too much on it may look not very natural. The sponge is great for covering spots or if you want a natural glow the brush is best. Petal is a nice tone for fair skin. Remeber try in on in the store to see if it goes or ask a store assistant.

i thought it lasted awhile, even when i was covering up breakouts using more than normal, and i use it every morning, and then usually wash my face after work, and use it again at night before i go out. I had the Benefit lady pick out my color which is Champagne. Im pretty fair/ light w/ blonde hair and blues eyes, and it matches better than any ive ever had. hope this helps :)

I'd recommend going in store for help with color selection. My associate was fabulous and helped me find a perfect match. I hit pan rather quickly, but since then, not much has changed... weird right? I think I'm just scooping out the center first, but it's lasting plenty long for me. It startled me at first too, but it's lasting great.

I've used my compact at least once a week since late May and am still going strong. Now, if you want full coverage all the time, it may not last as long.

As far as color is concerned, there are some very subtle differences between some of the shades. If you can, you should go check them out in person.

First of all, I always love to use our primer “that gal” before I apply my “hello flawless!”. “That gal” brightens and smooths your complexion and it will make your “hello flawless!” really stay put! As for your shade, it sounds like you would either be I’m cute as a bunny HONEY, or All the world’s my stage BEIGE.

you won't need a primer with this as long as you use the sponge instead of the brush to apply it.

You should try "All the World's My Stage" Beige. Based on how you described your complexion you sound like you have a "medium" skintone so I think that shade would be perfect for you. But if that one is too dark, try "I'm Cute as a Bunny" Honey. So your either one of those two. No, you don't need to use a primer with this powder, primers are made to be used with liquid foundations only. But you can use a primer first, then apply your foundation, and then apply this powder last of all.

I have black hair and dark brown eyes with golden undertones. The Honey shade works well for me, if you have more yellow undertones then I would choose a shade darker. If you have dry skin and it is really flaky then I suggest you use a primer or really moisturize. The fine powders of this foundation will highlight the patches of flaky ness on you face. This powder really fells good on your face and I perfer it over the bare minerals products. If you are really dry and flaky you may want to try another product like a liquid foundation because the powder will show where your skin is peeling.

I have medium skin tone and I tried the shade below hazelnut and it worked very well. However, I like to add even more of a tan to my face, without using a bronzer, and hazelnut is absolutely beautiful. It's not too dark at all and it blends really well. As for using a primer, I would recommend that. This powder is very matte and you may need some extra mostiurizer in order to help your face not become to dry. I have also always used this product with a foundation underneath, so you may want to find a moisturized foundation to help even out the dry areas of your face. Hope this helps, this product is wonderful!

This product is NOT oil free, however it is free of parabens and provides spf 15 protection. It also has nylon 12 in it which smoothes over lines and wrinkles for a silky, even complexion (never chalky or powdery). The coverage is also really versatile and with a sheer- full coverage spectrum. Try applying it with a foundation brush- it looks amazing!

Question
What shade is right for me?
I currently use the light shade of "Hello Gorgeous" and would like to try to the new "Hello Flawless" but am not sure which shade to use. I think that I need one of the first two lighter shades, but I am not sure which one. I am not ghostly pale, but I have fair skin.

We recommend in the store first choosing if you are a light, medium, or dark shade. If you are lighter skinned you will be comparing between the "petal" and "champagne" colors. If you are a medium skin-tone, between: "honey" and "beige", and dark tones choose from "toffee" and "hazelnut." Generally the true matches tend to be the more yellow tones i.e. petal, honey, or toffee (toffee is the only in this bunch that has a pinker shade than the others) and if you like your foundation to give you a touch of color you choose your warmer shade i.e.: (champagne, beige, or hazelnut.) Look at your skin and determine if you are more cool (yellow) or warm (pink). I have a medium olive complexion with more yellow undertones so my shade is: honey. This product isn't really made for deeper tones (YET) but hazelnut looks really beautiful on a more caramel african-american skin and benefit products have a way of warming to the complexion and blending better. Plus, I know with medium to darker shades our foundation can warm and darken on our skin after a few hours of wear, so when in doubt go with the lighter shade as it will "warm" to your complexion throughout the day. Hope this helped!

“Hello flawless!” is a custom powder cover-up with SPF 15. It comes in 6 flattering shades and comes with two applicators so you can choose how much coverage you want. Use the brush for sheer all over coverage and the sponge for full coverage or spot cover-up.

How is it for oily skin?
Does this have a matte finish? I have super oily skin. Right now I'm using Smashbox HALO, but it tends to get REALLY shiny after a couple of hours, which is a pain. How does this wear? Does it go shiny after a while?

I haven't noticed it getting too shiny. I get a really oily T-zone, and this seems to last for a while. However, I'm also a big fan of oil blotting sheets (I use them religiously). If you combine the two, you should be fine.

Question
BE Fairly Light comparison
I went to the Benefit counter at Macy's, and they tried to sell me Beige, however... it was too dark in my opinion. Just wondering if anyone else would agree with the saleslady or does BE's Fairly Light compare better to another shade?

I use B.E. fairly light too and this powder in Never settle petal works perfectly with my skintone, so I'd suggest that you try that shade. This powder gives as much coverage as bare minerals, but it's more portable and less messy.

I have pretty fair skin. I usually wear the second to lightest shades in foundations. During my short time using bareMinerals I wore light, which became too dark for me in the winter. Fairly light would have been a more appropriate color for me if I didn't have stop wearing it due to an allergic reaction. I now wear "Never Settle" Petal in Hello Flawless. If you are fair, you may want to consider champagne (really light) or petal (regular light). If you have more golden undertones then I do, you may want to consider honey (golden light) which is the next step up from petal. I know that both honey and beige (golden medium) would be way too dark for me. I'd say that the best match to fairly light is probably petal.
Unlike bareMinerals, it's lighter, easier to apply, doesn't make a mess, and won't settle into lines. Once you use Hello Flawless, you won't miss bareMinerals for a second, at least I didn't... good luck.

The active ingredients in Hello Flawless are OCTINOXATE (ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE) 5.94%, TITANIUM DIOXIDE 1.70%, OXYBENZONE (BENZOPHENONE - 3) 2.00%.
All three of these provide protection from the sun.
Octinoxate, an organic compound and common sunscreen ingredient, absorbs UV-B rays.
Titanium dioxide, is an inorganic particulate which reflects/absorbs UV light, common in cosmetics and sunscreens. It provides a physical block against UV rays due to its high refractive index.
Oxybenzone is an organic chemical compound which absorbs UVA and UVB rays, commonly used in cosmetics and sunscreen. It is the most controversial of these three.
Some of the inactive ingredients may contribute slightly to the effectiveness of this product as a sunscreen (such as silica), however, these are the major three ingredients contributing to the SPF.
