Well, I've used (in a pinch) the regular Blue Dawn Dish Soap. I normally just use it to clean my regular brushes but it works well with the beauty blender too! I wouldn't suggest making a DIY cleanser though. But yes, Blue Dawn is gentle yet effective :)

It depends on the type of foundation your using, soap and warm water would not clean my beauty blender which I was using with kat von d's foundation which is waterproof. Regular soap might clean it if your foundation is not waterproof other wise I recommend getting the cleaning solution, it makes the blender like new with every cleaning.

I thought the same thing, so I have tried different gentle cleansers. But this really made a difference. It takes off the makeup off of it much faster and easier with just a little bit of this cleanser. Also it's supposed to condition and keep the beauty blender bacteria free. And it's easier to wash out the soapy suds compared to anything else I tried.

I say just bite the bullet and get this stuff, because nothing else seems to work if you really want to get your beautyblender clean. I tried all sorts of stuff - dish soap, makeup remover, other brush cleaners, baby oil - none of them seemed to really do much to clean out the foundation residue on my beautyblender. This stuff gets it clean in a cinch, though. Also works well as just a regular makeup brush cleaner, too!
