definately go lighter! i went for a lighter shade since i also use a bronzer all over. if you feel it is too light, just use a bronzer and the color will be fine. dont get a dark shade, then it won't blend in with your skin tone

GO LIGHTER than you normally would. These colors are unusually dark. I was shocked at how dark the Light shade was when i received a sample. But, the powder is exceptional!

The shades tend to run a bit dark. I use natural in most lines, but I've been using the Light in the Halo powder. It's a little chalky on me, so I picked up Medium for the summer, and am mixing the two for a natural look. It's a pain, but I live in Texas, and there is no foundation "melt-down" in summer with this product - so it's worth it.

When products come in fair, light, & medium the medium is usually too light for my skin. However, this one matches perfectly, so I would say it runs a bit dark as compared with other brands. I've never purchased a 'medium' that matched and I've tried at least 10. So if your in between lt & med, I'd go with the light. Hope this helps. Sephora will let you exchange it (or return it) if it doesn't work out. Gotta love Sephora!!

When there are only 3 or 4 color options, I am always the lightest shade in a foundation or powder, but I use the light in this product. The fair made me look really chalky.

In Bare Minerals I use Fairly Light.

If you have yellow undertones, you might want to stick with an Ivory shade. Some Neutrals can do the job well if the Ivory shade is too yellow for you. Sometimes, the cooler shades look wonderful on "Ivorys" by brightening them with a hint of pink. Go into the bright light after putting it on and make absolutely sure the product is good for you.

I also find that smashbox colours run a bit darker than most brands. I would go a shade lighter than normal. So, I say go with the light.

I normally wear medium in Bare Minerals, but when I checked out this smashbox foundation I found the medium too dark. The light colour will blend well with your skin and if you ever need some extra colour or in the summer when you're darker, add a nice mineral bronzer all over your face.

Hope that helps!

I have adult oily skin that is starting to develop fine lines around the eyes and mouth, but yet I'm still prone to breakouts. This stuff is awesome. I apply Smashbox Photo Finish primer with Dermaxyl, and Smashbox Filter to smooth out around the eyes, and apply the Halo with the kabuki brush. It sits really well, and doesn't cause my skin to flake like some powders do when first applied. I'm on my second HALO, and even bought the Smashbox Complexion Perfection just so I'd have a travel-size version for my make up bag.

Be gentle with the latch, because the spring mechanism can break and prevent the compact from locking shut.

I realize there are many answers to your question already, but I have to add my two cents. :)
I have very oily skin, especially since summer heat has set in and my face is an oil slick, as well as dark acne scars that need concealing on my cheeks.
I've always been wary of powders simply because, when used with concealer on oily skin, they can look extremely heavy and cakey. However, I was recommended this product by a makeup artist and so I decided I might as well give it a try. I love it!
It goes on so smoothly and doesn't budge the entire day (I do use MUFE HD Primer), and it looks so natural over my concealer. My face does get a bit oily during the day, even with it on, but I adore the dewy, fresh look it gives me, so I'm thrilled. I did stop using it at one point to try other foundations, but I have come right back to it.
I highly recommend giving it a try. What have you got to lose?

I have very oily skin, and if I am not careful, after a couple of hours, this stuff gets really shiny on. I combat this by applying Smashbox Anti-Shine underneath it, and dusting a finishing powder like BE Mineral Veil over it anytime I feel I'm getting too shiny. So, yes, you can use it with oily skin, but you might find yourself putting in a little extra work. On the plus side, it doesn't seem to clog my pores or break me out, so if that's what you're worried about, then it's no problem.

yes! I have very oily skin... live in the midwest where summers are humid and sticky. good coverage, good absorption. I will get shiny throughout the day but since i can carry this in my purse a little touch up and flawless again. and it doesnt feel like some makeup where you are pushing oil into your skin and makeup on top. it works with the oil to mesh and protect your skin.

I also have acne prone skin and I have actually found a reduction in my acne since beginning to use this. While this could be for a number of reasons, I think that talc is one of the major things that irritates my skin and causes me to break out and this product is talc free! While not everyone is the same, it can't try to hurt!

Although a previous answer on here says that there is glitter/sparkle in this, I cannot see it at all. I used to wear Prescriptives Magic Cream to get that "ethereal glow" but not any more!!! Halo does that job WITHOUT any (obvious, I guess - well, obvious to me! lol) sparkle/glitter. I don't know how it works, but it gives my skin this sort of "lit from within" look. I love it!

It does not have any sparkles or shimmer in it. But it does create a very natural dewy look on the skin.

The product does contain mica as its first ingredient, so it adds a healthy sheen to your skin - but I would definitely not call it glittery or shimmery. It adds an adult-looking, but not overdone, glow.

Smashbox colors tend to run dark, so I would strongly suggest going into a store and playing around. If that's not an option, go with the light. I have very dark hair, black eyes, and a yellow-ish complexion that finds me somewhere around a light medium in most color ranges (i.e. in Cover Fx, I'm a M40), but the Smashbox light matches me almost perfectly.

You get .75 oz in their full sized packaging, which is about 3-4 times more the amount you get in an average pressed compact.
Mine lasts me on average about 9 months, and that's using it as full foundation on some days and as a finishing powder along with my liquid on other days. I wear it about 5-6 times a week on average.
