With medium brown hair, I'd recommend the darker of the 2 colors but brush your brows lightly after the product dries in order to soften the look. Plenty of color will be left behind, will stay put all day/night and look natural.

I purchased the Universal Light and found that is was a little dark for me. I have very pale blonde eyebrows. I would say it was more of a medium to light color.

I don't find it orangey. The universal deep looks a little red at first but blend it with you finger lightly while wet and and it looks great and natural while filling in in dark brows. I also hate the purpleish look in a lot of powders and this doesn't have that either.

Question
Can be used with pretty much NO lashes?
Is this convenient pen, able to be used if your brows are pretty much completely sparse----and there's nothing to really fill in--or does it look to fake and drawn on??? Thankyou Gem

It looks really fake & creepy no matter how careful you are. If you have sparse eyebrows (as I do), I recommend either Anastasia's light brown brow gel, or their brow powder (use a small eyeshadow brush & a light touch, & a cotton swab to wipe off any excess). I HATED the brow pen. One of the worst products ever.

answer 2
I wouldn't recommend this if your brows are REALLY sparse because it's basically a sheer marker. That's what is great about it, but it's best for gliding over brow hairs and filling in tiny spots that are less 'full.' If you use this without having much of a brow it will probably look paint-y.

Well, I have NO eyebrows except for the inside nearest my nose and I just put a little face powder so the pen sticks and it really does stay on ALL day. If I put it on without the powder like on the weekend if I'm really lazy, it doesn't stay. I feel that it looks natural - it's the best that is offered in 2011!!!

If you have some eyebrow, you wont have a problem. My eyebrows are super thin and sparse. This pen fills in the gaps well.

They'll likely look drawn on if you really don't have any eyebrow hair. I use the brow tint and then lightly coat my eyebrows with brown mascara to enhance the natural hairs that are there (regardless of how fine/light they might naturally be).

The key is light, feathery strokes, and if you really have no brows, I would follow with the Anastasia brow powder. Again, light srokes with the powder over the pen, and it will look pretty good. I love the stencils that came in the brow express kit from Anastasia.

Honestly, I'd go with a little darker. All the beauty tips I've ever read say to go a little darker on the brows. I find that works best for me too.

I personally would go with the lighter color still. I have medium brown hair, brown eyes, and an olive complexion and I wear the lighter one and it's a perfect shade. I asked at a Sephora store which one I should use and I almost went with the darker one...and I'm so glad I listened to the consultant. She explained that the darker one is more for people with very dark brown to black hair and darker skin tones. The lighter one is the best choice.

Definitely go with the lightest color. I'm blonde. You can adjust the color somewhat based on how hard you apply and reapply. Don't go darker if you are fair haired, it would look garish. Good luck, great product!

I'm strawberry blonde and would only consider the lightest shade. You do not want to go with anything above that; it would look fake. I've used this pen for years and stick with what I know works. Good luck!

I would probably go for the light. I think its a bit more versatile and works for several shades of blonde and redheads whereas the darker shade I feel is more for brunettes, but I cant really be sure, I've only ever used the lighter shade and it works really well for my darkish blonde hair. Hope this helps!

Absolutely use the lighter shade -- Universal Light I believe it is. It's even a teense darker than I would like (I'm medium blonde) but once you get the hang of it, it's an AWESOME product! You can fill in "individual hairs"...

Question
Did the packaging change?
I just purchased my third pen. I buy the Universal Light color and then pen never has the dark stripe at the bottom. This pen does, but it still says Universal Light. I don't feel like this is the light color I've previously gotten. It seems a lot darker. Did the packaging or color change?

I too noticed the packaging change, and at first thought the Universal Light was darker than my previous pen as well. When I compared the old vs. the new pen, I discovered that the colors are in fact the same. I think the difference is that since the old pen was on its last legs, less product was coming out with each use- I had to 'draw' in a little more to get the same effect.

On the days I 'overdo' it with my new pen, a dusting of mineral powder lightens the color perfectly. Hope this helps!

This pen lasts for a long time. I've not had to buy one to keep as a spare. Just make sure to push the top down completely to insure it doesn't dry out. I've never had a problem with it drying out. Usually I'll notice the color is not as pronounced when it's about to dry out, but it's not a sudden thing where I have to run out and buy another one right away. I would say this pen lasts for at least a couple of months.

I have two pens- the first one I bought a year ago, and it's just now ready to toss. I only have to use it on the outside half of my brows, a few feathery strokes a day, so I suppose it depends on how heavily you use it.

This product is applied as a backdrop to your brows (directly on the skin) and from my experience won't color/cover your white brows.
You may want to try tinting your brows (the actual hair) instead.
