I personally use this without any moisturizer at all and didn't have any problems. But skin types do vary, so maybe try with and without and see which you like. If you do add moisturizer first, I'd let it sit a little before putting on the primer so your moisturizer has time to soak in.

As a rule, primer is put before foundation.

Use before foundation. Or, you could put a little squirt on the back of your hand, then foundation, and mix them together with a brush. Or, if you love sponges (although everyone says brushes are better for coverage), put a small squirt of this then a larger squirt of foundation on your sponge.

You put this on before your foundation and it will keep it looking fantastic all day (put it on after you apply moisturize and allow it to sink in). It helps control the oil and makes your makeup look smoother.

Question
Good for oily skin?
I only have one skin care problem, oily skin. I have tried a bevy of primers out there and although some do help a little, on the whole my face is shiny in about an hour after foundation application. So my question is for you oily gals out there. Let me know..........

My skin is combination. I have found this does not promote oiliness. I am using it under Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra 24 Hour Makeup. After that I finish with the most incredible mattifying, setting powder ever: Make Up For Ever's High Definition Powder (just a very tiny amount). I have no oil all day, none!!! Not sure if it's the powder, the foundation, the combination of products. But this works wonderfully well so I am sticking with it.

This product is fantastic for oily skin. I use an oil-free facial cleanser & moisturizer, which helps, and then apply this after. It controls the oil pretty well for most of the morning. I usually only need a light touch up of powder mid-day and then I'm good for the afternoon.

Yes! I feel this product works better for me (combination/oily skin) than the Smashbox light primer. It lasts longer and my feel looks better through out the day. It does contain silicone though. I do use this one for very special occasions because it's so pricey for the size, but a little does go a long way.

Question
compare to smashbox photofinish primer
I received a deluxe sample of this and have been dying to try it. However, I have tried Smashbox's photo finish primer and it made me break out horribly ! This seems like it has a similiar consistency. So, I am a little scared! I was wondering if this was basically the same thing or simiar as far as ingredients?

No comparison to LaBase. Smashbox is sticky, LaBase creates a silky texture that makes foundation application feel flawless

I personally have never tried smashbox's primer, but I do have very sensitive skin, I have to be careful what I use or else I end up getting red and itchy for days, but I never break out or get a reaction from this product, if anything it leaves my skin smooth and soft, plus its oil free and feels super light

Just about everything makes me break out...i have hormonal acne so there is not a lot one can do for that, but this primer was the only one that did not make me break out. Having said that, everyone's skin is different, so I would recommend using it for a week to see the results....I switched to a really good cleanser for acne prone skin and that has solved many of my issues with face products....

Try it in the store to find out! I would think this would help but you have to see it to know for sure, I would think. I found it to be smoothing and mattifying so it probably would improve your skin texture and help your foundation lay better across imperfections, yes.

No, it won't fill in acne scars but a trip to the dermatologist when you can will work wonders toward erasing them. Meantime, concentrate on healthy skin and using quality products. No one really sees your scars but you anyway so don't focus on that but on your entire face. Make sure your makeup style is current with on trend colors and run with it! P.S. That oily skin will be your friend when you are retirement age.

Deep, pitted scars will rarely get smoothed out by primer alone. I have a few pitted scars which aren't very deep but this particular primer - the Lancome La Base Pro perfecting makeup primer - did help a little.

Question
Can this product be used in place of moisturizer?
My daughter keeps stealing my La Base, and she claims that you use it first, and then moisturizer afterwards. I say you need to use moisturizer first, otherwise if you use the la base first, it will block out the moisturizer, and it doesn't take the place of moisturizer. Who is correct?

I would say it's the last thing you put on before any type of foundation, If your daughter is young, I have a 16 yr old and I've tried to get her to take care of her skin, but you choose your battles! We live in the desert, if she doesn't wear sun protection and moisture, it won't be because I haven't tried!

Question
Is this non-comedogenic? Is it comparable to Vincent Longo Water Canvas Base?
Hello, I have dry but acne prone skin. I want to find a primer that will prevent my liquid foundation from looking scaly and dry after I apply it. I also want one that will not make my skin break out since I am acne prone. I currently use Vincent Longo Water Canvas Base really like it, but am looking for something new (and comparable to it). It does not make me break out, and usually prevents the cakey look of dry skin + makeup. If this is not comparable to VL Water Canvas Base, can you tell me what is? Thanks!

Just to clarify, oil-free does NOT mean non-comedogenic. I see people claiming that all the time on here, and it is absolutely not the case.

Repeat after me: oil-free is NOT the same as non-comedogenic.

I am 52, have pretty good skin and have found the best thing for my maturing skin is to use a tinted moisturizer - anything else feels and looks too heavy. I use my day moisturizer, then apply a primer and then apply my tinted moisturizer. My current favorite is Clarins Super Restorative Tinted Cream.

As a lifelong devotee of fashion and in your age group, the lighter weight the better for makeup. Invest in skin care with a dermatologist and you won't regret it! Applying make up to skin in great condition is where it's at. Personally, I have always been partial to Lancome foundation which has excellent texture and colors. Go get professionally color matched. For color on your eyes and lips, use a light touch. Do not stencil your eyebrows-use a color one shade lighter and again, a light hand will let your beauty show.

Question
Product life?
I've had this product for about a year, still with a LOT left. This is because I use a sunscreen as my daily primer, and I would only ever use the La Base Pro if I was doing my makeup for a special occasion/to go out at night, which isn't very often since my makeup usually holds up really well throughout the day. That said, should I be concerned about the life of this product? I can't imagine it would go bad very quickly, given the few ingredients/pump packaging. Thanks for any advice!

keep it away from heat and direct light, and it should be fine. Best put it in the fridge, it will feel super cool when you apply it. Unless it turns a different color, or becomes liquidy, no need to throw it out.

Eventually it will break down. Why not wear it over your sunscreen? Just make sure you give your sunscreen at least 5 minutes to absorb first. You will see a difference during the day, try it!

No, I don't think there's any reason to stop using it after a year. In department stores they keep samples of it around until it runs out (and then on to the next bottle.) It also lasts me a long time since a little goes a long way and I haven't had any problems. Since it has a pump I'd say that it's hygienic and there shouldn't any bacteria or problems with that.
