You need to use a primer and a finishing powder. Makeup Foever has one of each.

Use a good moisturizer before applying any makeup. You might also want to try a primer which preps the face and gets it ready for foundation. So moisturizer first... then primer... then foundation and concealer.

Be sure to use a good primer and apply well. I apply with a dampened kabuki brush and set it with a Oil controlling Mineral Powder

Question
Can I use with Bare Minerals?
Hey I have really oily/combination skin. I really want this foundation because I want flawless looking skin to go with the eye makeup I am getting form Kat Von D's line. But I like a matte finish and liquid foundation usually doesn't do that and it usually makes my skin oily, also it suggest wearing the HD powder with it. I can't buy that right now though and was wondering if I could just get this foundation and use my Bare Minerals loose powder over it to create a matte look.

I think you can definitely use the Bare Minerals with it instead. I do like the HD powder though (it gives your skin a smooth feel).. but I think you will be fine. I have an oily forehead.

Yes, I think you could use Bare Minerals along with the HD foundation, but only a very light dusting of the Bare Minerals. The Mineral Veil would probably work better than the full-on Bare Minerals Foundation on top of the HD foundation.

Question
HD or Mat Velvet+??
Hi everyone,

I recently purchased Mat Velvet+, I don't have oily skin, but I like the matte look. However, I'm beginning to think that maybe it's a little too matte for my skin. I was thinking of trying the HD foundation. Does anyone have both? I'd like to hear your input, especially if you have normal skin, with little dryness. Thanks ladies (and gents!) ;-)

Without a doubt, get the HD. I have oily/dry combination skin also and this stuff is the most wonderful foundation I have EVER used and the list of foundations I have tried is about 40 long. I LOVE this stuff and I think you will too. With it, I truly feel flawless and beautiful for the first time ever!

I just wrote a review of the HD foundation and talked about this. I have combination skin, so I get a little oily throughout the day, but also can have some dryness. I took home a decent sized sample of the Matte Velvet and used it for a few days and thought it was just a little too powdery finishing. I much preferred the HD, I think it is easier to apply and blend, has a natural finish so is not dewey, feels better on the skin, and if you really like the matte look you can always top with a translucent power (Mineral Veil by BE is great). Hope that helps you. By the way, if you decide to switch Sephora let's you return products that you have used if purchased within 30 days...

I have moderate-severe acne and I have not noticed an increase in outbreaks with this foundation. For me, my skin has actually improved a bit while using this foundation. My skin is also very oily. I've noticed that this foundation controls some of my oil, but not all of it. I use Make Up For Ever HD Powder to absorb any excess oil, and that usually does a good job.

Question
Will this be okay for breakout prone, sensitive skin?
My skin is combination with oily and normal to dry spots. I want to have that perfect skin look (and cover my acne scars) I see a lot of other women have but my skin breaks out very easily. Has anyone had any problems with this making them break out? Thank you!

I am prone to break outs and dry spots too. This foundation does not make me break out, but it does cause dry spots to flake if I dont use enough moisturizer.

Question
summer shade
I am currently using #117 and just love how it perfectly matches my skin tone. If I tan a bit this summer, I am wondering which shade I could switch to for those few months. I am not near a Sephora to go and try one on regularly.

if it's only a slight tan and your under one tone different you can make it up with a bronzer. it'll give you a natural glow..however if u're planning on a tan tan then you don't have a choice but to make a trip back to the store to rematch yourself...

If 117 is a good match now, the next step up would be 120. It's only slightly darker, but has the same yellow tones.

It depends on how much you tan though - you may need to go higher.

Hey #117 matcher, that's my shade perfectly too!! but I've also tried 118... and depending on how much you tan... it's about a full shade darker and a little more on the warm/orange side, which is ok if you're tanning since you tend to get mroe that color when the sun hits :)

Hope that helps :)

Do you know which would be the same shade as the MAC NC25 foundation?

Hi there... I've tried both 117 and 118... and it you're a true NC25 with warm tones rather than yellow.... then you're 118.... if you're more yellow... you'd be 117. the two shades are about 1/2 shade apart (obviously 117 being lighter) and 117 is a true neutral/yellow where 118 is a true warm/gold (which if oily might oxidize to a slight orange color)

if you think that 117 might be too light but you're truly yellow... you may need to mix 117 and 120 (yellow as well, but more for NC30-35)

Hope that helped you a bit :)
