Questions & Answers for LORAC Natural Performance Foundation

Question
Color option
I have dark brown hair, brown eyes, and a lighter skin tone. However, lighter shades do not seem to work for me because I do have a bit of an olive tint to my skin color as I am hispanic. I really want to find the right color and have heard great things about this product. Any suggestions about the right option for my skin tone?

I noticed when I was looking at this product that it comes in alot of different colors that I don't usually see used in other brands color schemes. When I swatched a few of them to see what was my shade I alot saw that a few of the shades had more of a orange tint to them. Maybe that means they would have a shade leaning towards your olive toned skin.

I had the same problem with the LORAC foundation. I was not able to find a good color match and moved on to Clinique Acne Solutions in Fresh Honey. This was the perfect color match, I have yellow undertones and many products make me look too pink. This Clinique foundation seems to be doing the job, but I've only been using it for a few days. It is summer in Houston and this make up seems to stay well but I do use a translucent setting powder over it.

Question
shade NP3
I currently use the shade NP2 but I would like a little more color. I have dark brown hair, hazel eyes and light skin but I was wondering if anyone else uses the NP3 shade and would know if it's alot darker than NP2 and if it has more of a yellow or pink undertone? I don't know if it would be too dark for me or if I should just stick with the NP2 shade.

NP3 is much darker than NP2 but it also has much more color, with a mixture of pink and yellow undertones. I cannot wear NP2 because I'm not that yellow. I mix NP1 (a bland, rather colorless beige) with the more colorful NP3. If you order NP3 and it's too dark, try mixing it with your NP2. You may love the result as much as I did.

I am very pale (blonde, blue eyes) and NP3 is not too dark for me. I am very pink, and the undertone is a little yellow for me (although the makeup still looks pink before I put it on, so this just may be because I am really red).

I'm very pale, dark hair and dark eyes. I use NP4 and it looks extremely natural, while not making me look paler.

I haven't seen NP 2 but I'm light complected and I tried on NP 3 in the store and it was still very light...too light for me (I ended up with 4). You may be safe with a 3, if you can't make it to a store to get matched then returns are free so you won't be out of too much money for shipping. Hope that helps:)

Lucy Liu in the summer or Lucy Liu in the winter? I'm an East Asian with fair skin tone, and while I love this foundation for everything it has and everything it doesn't have. They have yet to make one shade with yellow undertone. Under artificial light, you'll look well matched, but under natural light (i.e. sunlight), your face will look pinkish while your neck will look a different color.

NP 5 (warm medium) would be best if you have a slight tan or typically like to use a foundation shade slightly would likely be your exact match.

I would suggest NP 4 (medium) or NP 5 (warm medium). If you're really not sure, it would be best to go to the Sephora store and test it. Good Luck!

Question
How do you apply this?
I have a MAC 187 brush and my old Bare Escentuals handy buki brush...could I use those to apply it or does the foundation need to be applied with another tool?

I use the new tarte foundation brush, which is like a kabuki or bronzer blush. What I do is squirt a very small amount onto my finger and dab it onto my forehead. Then I take my brush and swirl it around until it's blended into my skin. Once my forehead is done, I do each cheek, my nose and chin. Don't use the brush to apply it, just blend. Otherwise the brush will end up eating so much of the product. I use a very little bit of this stuff and blending with brush does a great job of giving me a flawless, airbrushed finish.

So, I say give your kabuki a try :-)

I agree with the previous answer: I use a sponge and it gives great, buildable coverage this way. The one thing that I do differently is this: I first use my sponge to apply my moisturizer to my whole face. Then I use the same sponge to apply my foundation. I find this helps my foundation glide on more smoothly and it makes it a little easier to blend.

I find that clean fingers or a sponge work best. The buki brush is best for powders.

Question
Is the color NP1 the same or similar to S1?
I used to use the old Lorac oil free foundation (192278) in S1 and wanted to buy more but see it is discontinued. I was thinking about trying this one instead but don't want to buy the wrong color. If someone could let me know I would appreciate it.

I use NP1 and it is a light beige. It has a neutral beige undertone, no yellow or pink. That makes it a good mixing shade. I mix with NP3 that has a mixture of yellow and pink undertones. The result is amazing. I skip NP2 because it's much too yellow for me.

I think that NP1 has less of an orange undertone. If you put the two side by side you can definately tell the difference.

I think so, but it is worth going to Sephora yourself and testing it on the back of your hand to find that undertone of your fair/light skin. If in doubt go lighter, but either a pinky (pale/fair) or a yellow( if olive skin) will look best on you. good luck!

I wear it today without powder setting, it looks great and its not sticky either. I have combination/sensitive/oily skin. Oh! It doesn't look shiny on me either. Normally, I breakouts after using liquid foundation, this one seems to work well with my skin after nearly a week using it.

I would rate this foundation more on the matte side, but it doesn't make me look chalky or plastic-y. I wear it with powder to make it a bit more matte.

Coverage level
How good is the coverage? How does it compare to tinted moisturizers and powder foundations? I would like something lightweight that also covers blemishes and has a natural, dewy finish.

This product definitely has a good level of coverage. I have a fair number of blemishes myself, and I am very happy with how it is masking them. Definitely more coverage than any tinted moisturizer that I have ever used.

Question
no yellow undertones in my shade
Hi. I live this foundation, but I was matched to NP3 and while it is probably a good match for depth of color it just doesn't have enough yellow for my light ethnic (Greek) skin. Does anyone know, is the NP2 the same color intenstiy but more yellow (I really can't stand any pink in a foundation, even if they call it "neutral") or shoud l go up to NP4? Or just ditch it alltogether.

i am wearing NP3 and its also not yellow enough for me, NP2 is yellow-er but very fair, it would have made me look like a ghost. The SMS3 in the breakthrough preformance would probably be a better color for you, but the formulation is lighter, but im thinking of switching back to that after this bottle just because the match is better for me. MUFE HD also has very nice yellow-tone shades but with heavier coverage similar to this.
