I don't think that it is oil free, but you only need to use very little, and it goes a long way. Does not have an oily feel at all.

Yes, but just use it sparingly since your skin is already naturally oily anyways. Or else it will make your face look too greasy and shiny and might even clog up your pores. I wouldn't worry about whether or not this product contains oil because acne is mainly caused by bacteria, not oil. So if you maintain good hygiene then it reduces the chances of you getting acne blemishes.

I don't recommend trying it- people with sensitive skin have broken out. I just don't think the cost is justified. I'd suggest you try the regular version of the lotion if you want to.
It does have oil listed in the ingredients- it didn't feel particularly greasy to me, but I used it VERY sparingly (ie I just touched my finger to it and smoothed it over a small area of my face... ).

Question
Really the best moisturizer out there?
I was at Sephora a few weeks back, buying a refill for my beloved Purity Made Simple, and some lady who works for Philosophy came up to me and asked if I also used Hope in a Jar. I said no and she showed me it and gave me a sample of it to take home... well, I tried it one day and I'm really not sure what to make of it.
If I were to get this it would be in the SPF form, so my first question is, is the SPF version as good as the regular version? Also, it smelled a little weird, not overpowering, just... weird. I remember thinking, what's the big deal about this? Maybe I just have to keep using it?
Right now I use Biore skin preservation dual moisturizer SPF 30, which I like, but it doesn't absorb too well and if I rub my concealer in too much it gets sort of flakey and weird.
Would this be a good product to use? I love Purity Made Simple and apparently this stuff is amazing too, but I wanted to make sure it would work for me, especially with SPF.

I absolutely LOVE this product. It saves my skin, especially in the winter. It absorbs so nicely, without any film or greasiness. I just can't say enough about how great Hope In A Jars with SPF is. I have pretty fair skin and I tend to break out around my chin. The SPF is perfect for everyday protection but it doesn't leave my skin oily or clog my pores, doesn't make me feel like its making any break outs worse. Give it a try....I think you'll be glad you did!!!

You only need a little of Hope In a Jar. I have sensitive and somewhat oily skin at times and it works so well. I always had redness and now it is gone. My skin turns over and not clogged with this product. I tried so many moisturizers and this one I got a tiny tube sample and was amazed at how gentle but great it works!

If you have easily irritated skin and can't try out the SPF version skip it. I use and love the regular hope in a jar, but the SPF burns my skin and turns it very red. My mother, however, can use this product without any problem. For both of us, makeup application and staying power was unaffected.

It works great with spf already in it. U might want to try it for a week and then see what you think. It absorbs pretty quickly and I can definitely tell a difference when I do not use it under my foundation. My skin looks a lot more like a smooth canvas with it.

I'm using Miracle Worker as well, when to use Hope in a Jar SPF 20
I just purchased Miracle Worker, which I LOVE! I know I still need to use SPF in the AM, so do I use Miracle Worker first and then apply HIAJ? Or do I use just SPF in the AM and Miracle Worker in the PM?

I would definitely use the SPF in the morning because then you'll be covered from the UVBs during the day. You don't need that when you're going to bed. You'll want to use the MiracleWorker at night so that your skin will it in during its overnight restorative process. Hope this helped!

i found this very confusing (the box instructions are very vague and misleading, imo) so i called sephora today. don't wait til the next morning to use a moisturizer. when you're ready to call it a day (4pm, 5pm, you don't have to wait til bedtime) clean face with gentle cleanser (i use philosophy purity) and then "swipe" face with m. worker pad - avoid eye area. wait 5-10 minutes and apply moisturizer - i'm using hope in a jar w/spf (they were out of m. worker lotion). i was doing it all wrong before (see previous post). hope this helps!

which one
I can't determine whether I should be buying Hope in a Jar spf20 or When Hope is Not Enough with SPF - I am 41, fair/sensitive/combination skin, and I have purity cleanser, but my other moisturizer is not working with it (not enough moisture between the two of them). What would you suggest? Thanks!

When Hope Is Not Enough is very moisturizing and makes your skin look and feel great-This is my favorite Philosophy product. I have oily skin during the day, but at night after cleansing, it feel dry and tight, so i use this as a night time moisturizer. I wake up w/my skin looking so hydrated and refreshed, that all i need during the day is a light lotion.
It's a great product!

i'm 41, too, and i have fairly dry skin. i've responded to a few girls' questions because i feel really passionate about this. like me, you're probably finished having children but hope in a jar using oxybenzone as it's primary sunscreen ingredients. oxybenzone is known reproductive hormone disrupter. i'm just so tired of all the toxic chemicals being added to our skincare products. i just purchase sephora's collection facial moisturizer and when i looked up the ingredient list i was grossed out actually. it's a bunch of fillers and questionable preservatives. i do not have any affiliation with this company at all but check out magnomadnessskincare.com. i know it's a lame name but their moisturizers are awesome. best of luck.

I have really dry skin and I use both along with the Purity cleanser. The one with SPF is little thicker to the touch but has the same end result as the non-SPF one: lightweight, not greasy, absorbs quickly and very moisturizing. If you are outside a lot I would definitely go for the one with SPF

Nope, this is not normal for moisterizers such as Philosophy to be doing this. In my particular case, I open my bottle up & used it once for a day @ the beach. I didn't use it for another 2 weeks & by that time, it had taken a yellow tone & was super-oily!! I think Philosophy forgot to do more quality control testing before they put this particular line out on the market. I'm sure they did in a hurry because of how popular the original was & the need for one to be out w/ SPF in it. All I can say is that something went wrong somewhere.

No, bring it back. I recently got one in a Philosophy kit and opened it up (still sealed, brand new) to find that it seemed to be separating (and kind of oily). Not knowing what was wrong with it I brought the product back to Sephora where the separation was explained to me. Apparently it was an issue that has since been worked out with the SPF version of Hope in a Jar.

Yes. I had that happen to. I just stir it for a few seconds before putting it on and it works just as well. I have sensitive skin and it still hasn't caused me to break out despite the separation of ingredients. I feel it is worth it to put up with this as this is one of the only SPF face lotions I have found that doesn't cause me to break out and doesn't burn my under-eye skin.

My eyes sting and water profusely after product application. The tears that are produced leave a yellow-tinted stain on the tissue. As a molecular biologist, I'm thinking the sulfates may be responsible for this phenomenon. I believe the product has a slight yellow tint to it, in it's primary brand new state.

Yes. It's not too different from the original HIAJ. Rub it in between your fingers to mix it again prior to applying to your face. I have no problems with it. The only thing I can think of is the packaging in the jar. The one I use is in a tube (large samples from beauty perk points). Maybe that is helping the formula stay together better or come out better. Hope this helps!

The only difference is the addition of the sunscreen, which translates into a slight sunscreen smell and the moisturizer being a tad bit thicker, although it doesn't feel greasy at all. I have used both long enough to say with confidence that - at least in my case- the Hope in a Jar with SPF 25 perfectly moisturizes my combination skin without making my t-zone overly greasy or leaving my cheeks still feeling dry.

I believe Hope is Not Enough is for extra-dry, angry skin that needs serious help, and obviously the SPF is for sun protection. Hope in a Jar is a more lightweight, everyday product. Hope in a Jar says it's for all skin types; I have pretty oily/combination skin and I've been using it for about two weeks, and it works great for me. Hope in a Jar also comes as SPF or non-SPF; I went with the SPF since I'm terrible at remembering sunscreen.

Biggest difference, besides the SPF, is the consistency of the product. The Hope in a Jar w/SPF tended to separate. I would just 'stir' it now and then with my finger. No big deal because I really wanted the SPF. Now the box states 'new formula'. It appears creamier, more like the non-SPF product. I have not used it, though, so I am not certain that this is the improvement.

You don't ever really NEED a toner for anything. They're great if you like how they make your skin feel, and they exfoliate a bit, but they are one of the more unnecessary items in your skin care arsenal. This stuff is non-greasy, absorbs well and smells good.
