I don't use a toner with this. I just put it on, and then put a cream foundation on after, and my skin looks fabulous!

That depends on the face wash that you use. WIth most face washes…yes. I use Philosophy's Purity as my face wash and it's really gentle but cleansing and it is a face wash and toner in 1 so no toner is necessary.

You don't ever really NEED a toner for anything. They're great if you like how they make your skin feel, and they exfoliate a bit, but they are one of the more unnecessary items in your skin care arsenal. This stuff is non-greasy, absorbs well and smells good.

Although I like using a toner, you do not need one.

No toner is needed for Hope In A Jar SPF 20.

I think you are supposed to use it after the miracle worker.

I think you could use the Miracle Worker then HIAJ and see how that works out ....if not just do your other idea of using Miracle Worker in the daytime and HiAJ at night

I would definitely use the SPF in the morning because then you'll be covered from the UVBs during the day. You don't need that when you're going to bed. You'll want to use the MiracleWorker at night so that your skin will it in during its overnight restorative process. Hope this helped!

Yes it smells as bad. And it doesnt work well with me. It was so dry and it didnt last long at all.

I didn;t notice any scent to it and it works good on my dry sentisve skin.

I think the smell is lighter than the previous formulation. This new version works just as well but you don't have to stir product to mix before using --- it's "all together" now! I really like it.

There is a mild smell of sunscreen with you first apply, but the scent fades completely after a minute or two. It's a great product!

yup but the smell is faint and goes away quickly. the smell does not bother me and i think the product is worth the bit of strange smell for less than 5 minutes. my finance thinks i still smell great!

When Hope Is Not Enough is very moisturizing and makes your skin look and feel great-This is my favorite Philosophy product. I have oily skin during the day, but at night after cleansing, it feel dry and tight, so i use this as a night time moisturizer. I wake up w/my skin looking so hydrated and refreshed, that all i need during the day is a light lotion.

i'm 41, too, and i have fairly dry skin. i've responded to a few girls' questions because i feel really passionate about this. like me, you're probably finished having children but hope in a jar using oxybenzone as it's primary sunscreen ingredients. oxybenzone is known reproductive hormone disrupter. i'm just so tired of all the toxic chemicals being added to our skincare products. i just purchase sephora's collection facial moisturizer and when i looked up the ingredient list i was grossed out actually. it's a bunch of fillers and questionable preservatives. i do not have any affiliation with this company at all but check out magnomadnessskincare.com. i know it's a lame name but their moisturizers are awesome. best of luck.

Definitely Hope In a Jar with SPF 25. I had the same issue, with not enough moisture. Make sure you use a good moisturizing cream every night before going to bed also.

I've tried both and would recommend the Hope in a jar SPF 25. I, too, have combination skin and am over 55 years young. I don't find this product too greasy. It absorbs quickly and seems to know which areas are oily and which are dry! Love it.

I use it once a day, pretty much everyday, and it lasts me about 6-8 weeks.

I use the product every day, kind of sparingly, and I'd say I'll have it for 2-3 months.

the little jars of the Philosophy face creams usually last me about 2 weeks so 28 uses... i am going by one i apply day & night.

I will get about 13 weeks out of the 2 oz. jar, even when using it at night a couple of times a week. A little goes a long way with this lotion.

Nope, this is not normal for moisterizers such as Philosophy to be doing this. In my particular case, I open my bottle up & used it once for a day @ the beach. I didn't use it for another 2 weeks & by that time, it had taken a yellow tone & was super-oily!! I think Philosophy forgot to do more quality control testing before they put this particular line out on the market. I'm sure they did in a hurry because of how popular the original was & the need for one to be out w/ SPF in it. All I can say is that something went wrong somewhere.

My 3 jars did the same thing. Return it and get the Oil-Free. It seems to be much better so far.

No, bring it back. I recently got one in a Philosophy kit and opened it up (still sealed, brand new) to find that it seemed to be separating (and kind of oily). Not knowing what was wrong with it I brought the product back to Sephora where the separation was explained to me. Apparently it was an issue that has since been worked out with the SPF version of Hope in a Jar.

Yes. I had that happen to. I just stir it for a few seconds before putting it on and it works just as well. I have sensitive skin and it still hasn't caused me to break out despite the separation of ingredients. I feel it is worth it to put up with this as this is one of the only SPF face lotions I have found that doesn't cause me to break out and doesn't burn my under-eye skin.

My eyes sting and water profusely after product application. The tears that are produced leave a yellow-tinted stain on the tissue. As a molecular biologist, I'm thinking the sulfates may be responsible for this phenomenon. I believe the product has a slight yellow tint to it, in it's primary brand new state.

I initially got a sample when my skin was really dry for winter. It worked really well. I love it! When I went back to purchase it, I got it with SPF 25 and it works just as well. I would definitely recommend getting it with SPF especially as we go into the summer months. Remember - a little goes a long way so just get the small jar and try it out. If you like it, go back and get the bigger jar when you run out.

I think Hope in a Jar with spf will be moist enough for you. It's pretty thick and moisturizes my driest areas very well.

I would try Caudalie's Day Perfecting Creme (spf 15). Since it sounds like you don't easily burn that should provide enough sun protection. It also evens your skin tone over time. This product is sold at Sephora as well. It has higher ratings than this product, which is worth considering.

I too have normal to dry but more on the dry side. I had the same dilemma as you because as soon as I seen for dry skin I thought great that's for me. But the SPF beat out the other hope in a jar for dry skin. I personally rather have a moisturizer with an SPF. I have been using hope in a jar SPF 25 now for about two week twice a day and I have no complaints I love it.

I would stick with the Hope In A Jar without SPF. I've tried both, have clear and normal/dry skin, and the version with SPF made me breakout significantly. It also felt extremely greasy on my face. I love the regular non-SPF version, and just put on a light, oil-free spf with it instead :-)

I have normal to dry skin and use a daily retinol A product. I do use the Hope in a Jar SPF 25 daily also with it and have no problems and find I like it's moisturizing effects and would not be w/out the SPF. I also use a tinted moisturizer with SPF for my makeup and find between all this I get good moisture coverage and SPF coverage. I am also not into the matte look but my face is not greasy looking either. Hope this helps. :)

This product is perfect for p.m. retinol users..it's a moisturizer w/SPF, and if your skin is dried out, this will totally "renew" your dry, scaly areas..you will feel the difference immediately. Just make sure to wash off the night cream before moisturizer application in the A.M.

Yes, I have my 16 year old son using it who also uses Retin-A for Acne. He also used the facial cleanser and scrub. He really likes both.

i would recommend this one with spf, because while taking that, you must be careful about sun exposure. it is also free of many harmful chemicals. i am not a doctor though, so i would run the ingredients by your dermatologist first.

I have very fair, combination, skin and the few times I've used this, it hasn't interfered with my mineral makeup. I've got loads of other complaints about this, but absorption & feel aren't among them.

I don't think that it matters mineral or not. I personally wear it with the supernatural powder from philosophy but I think it will do its job with either. It seems to make a better canvas if you are applying powder foundation over top of it.

I use bare minerals with the moisturizer and think my make up goes on great!

I use mineral make-up with this every day. I always have dewy, freshly cleaned skin when I apply it.

Yes, but just use it sparingly since your skin is already naturally oily anyways. Or else it will make your face look too greasy and shiny and might even clog up your pores. I wouldn't worry about whether or not this product contains oil because acne is mainly caused by bacteria, not oil. So if you maintain good hygiene then it reduces the chances of you getting acne blemishes.

I don't recommend trying it- people with sensitive skin have broken out. I just don't think the cost is justified. I'd suggest you try the regular version of the lotion if you want to.
It does have oil listed in the ingredients- it didn't feel particularly greasy to me, but I used it VERY sparingly (ie I just touched my finger to it and smoothed it over a small area of my face... ).

I wouldn't use it on oily skin. And i'm not prone to break out, and it made me break out.
