There are methods of making animal hair products that do not involve any cruelty. You might consider that there are environmental impacts associated with making synthetic materials for brushes too.

i was bothered by the same question & finally emailed Sephora's customer service reps to get a straight answer from the company.
"Our private label brand Sephora Brand is cruelty free (meaning that the products have never been tested on animals). The Kat Von D collection is a part of the Sephora private label."
still unclear regarding what the brushes are made of, but i was relieved to find out that the line does no animal testing.

Another user answered the question that Kat Von D's brushes are natural, not synthetic, so I can't purchase them because I don't use ANY products unless they are cruelty free. It's too bad Kat Von D doesn't offer only cruely free products, but plenty of other companies at Sephora do, so I will be happy to support them instead.
