There are methods of making animal hair products that do not involve any cruelty. You might consider that there are environmental impacts associated with making synthetic materials for brushes too.

i was bothered by the same question & finally emailed Sephora's customer service reps to get a straight answer from the company.

their reply:
"Our private label brand Sephora Brand is cruelty free (meaning that the products have never been tested on animals). The Kat Von D collection is a part of the Sephora private label."

still unclear regarding what the brushes are made of, but i was relieved to find out that the line does no animal testing.

Another user answered the question that Kat Von D's brushes are natural, not synthetic, so I can't purchase them because I don't use ANY products unless they are cruelty free. It's too bad Kat Von D doesn't offer only cruely free products, but plenty of other companies at Sephora do, so I will be happy to support them instead.

The smudge brush can be used as a crease brush but i find it deposits to much for my liking so i find myself using the angled eyeshadow brush for the crease almost everyday and it has beautiful results so far

I would use the blending brush, or the smudge brush for the crease of your eyelid, most likely, you should use the blending brush because it can make the colors mix together well and not have the crease color be so dominant.

I would use anitbacteria dishsoap and extra virgen olive oil together to wash and condition my brushes at least once a week depending how much you use them. Trust me, this is the best way to wash your brushes! leaves them super soft like the frist day you got them!

If you have a mild liquid face soap that works well. Please know this is only a suggestion but, due to oils in our face and makeup products I've noticed that a dab or diluted bit of Dawn dish liquid will release much product from sponges and brushes. I have Lancome goat hair brushes taht are ages old 10+ I've also used a bit of woolite, since natural of brushes is similar to wool & cashmere.

I usually clean my brushes with a very mild soap like liquid baby bath soap. Gently rub brisltes between fingers, then swirl gently in a circular motion in the palm of your hand. Rinse very thoroughly and dry flat on a clean paper towel.

The above, from "Sephora Staff", is most likely a mistake, but I feel like I've been had. It is a lie. This set is MADE IN CHINA, as it says clearly on the box. One of the reasons I paid the asking price for the set is because I thought they were European made, based upon the above answer. I am returning them, which is saying a lot, as I usually do not bother to return something.

I would say about six inches. Yes they are full sized but their case makes them easy for travel. They are very easy to use and they dont shed either.

The brushes are about six inches long (I think- no ruler handy).

Bottom line-- they are comfortable to hold, and fit in my (larger) makeup case.

The angled eyeshadow brush:
Dip it in the product and it picks up just the right amount of eyeshadow. Its size makes it easy to get the whole lid and evenly distribute the procuct.

Eyeshadow blending brush:
It is of course to blend the eyeshadow. I use it to blend a little black shadow into the color I already have. Its not a full coverage brush so its great for blending darker colors into your eye look.

Angled brow brush:
Dip this in the black or brown eyeshadow and fill in your eyebrows any way you want. No other brow product needed! You can use it with brow stencils though if you prefer.

Smudge brush:
I dip this in a dark eyeshadow and smudge it along my lashline (upper and lower) for a smokey eye effect. This is great for applying cream liners too.

Flat eyeliner brush:
Wet the tip of this and dip it in a dark eyeshadow. Then lay it flat at your lashline and gently distribute the product where your eyeliner would go. Re-dip as needed just one dip in the eyeshadow wont do your whole eye.

I truly hope that this helps you. Kat Von D has lots of great products and her brushes are the only eye brushes I need :-)

This is one of the best questions anyone has ever posted! In the Sephora beauty book they tell you how to wash your make-up brushes. Get the water from your faucet to a lukewarm temperature and hold the brush down letting the water run over it. Then put a mild soap in your hand and gently swirl the brush in the soap. Next run it under the faucet again squeezing the bush hairs gently between your fingers till no soap is left in them. Gently squeeze the excess water off with a towel and leave the brushes on a towel to air dry. When you have your brushes under the faucet always hold the brush straight down so no water gets in the part of the brush where the hairs are glued to the handle. If water gets in there your brushes will start to shed and then they will be no good. Also remomber to always be gentle with your brushes too. Best of luck :-)

They're full size. each is 5-6 inches tall, plus the actual hair of the brush. It's great as a travel case, because all you need is right there. And, it's cute :D
