It's washable, but it'd take a looong time to dry, since it's so thick

Yes it is!!! I wash mine with either my facial cleanser, or Sephora brand brush shampoo. Wash it maybe 2 -3 times a week. It dries pretty fast...I normally wrap mine in paper towel to help speed up the drying process.
