Is this specifically meant for the HD foundation?
...or can you use it over any foundation or any concealer? I only wear concealer in summer, but still need to set it with a powder. I'm sick of my bare escentuals for now :-)

Bare essential makes me break out. HD Micro finish powder works perfect to set concealer. Better than the set powder that comes with Laura mercier camouflage concealer.

I use it over Clinique's Line Smoothing concealer----any brand would do, and it doesn't have to be HD. Just don't let anyone use flash to take your picture.

I'm looking for a powder that absorbs oil and minimizes pore. I've tried both powers at Sephora store on the back of my hand and I think the HD micro powder feels more silky. I have fairly toned, combination skin with larger pore on my nose, so which one should I buy?

This is a tough question for me since I really enjoy both of the products. If I had to choose one, I would go with the makeup forever. I think it is a bit more coverage, and acts more as powder then a finishing powder. it makes my skin a little softer than the bare minerals and doesn't leave any stray powder marks. I love the bare minerals but i find it leaves splotches of powder residue if I don't blend it in too well.

Hi - my skin sounds just like yours. i'm 24 fair blue eyed combo skin. BE is my fave makeup, but after trying this, this is gorgeous for fair skin. I found the mineral veil to look a little chalky and pale me out even more, where this is completely transparent and just makes my pores go away. even the nasty nose ones.

Mineral Veil is garbage. My aesthetician actually said that it is the WORST product in the Bare Escentuals line - clogs pores, and contrary to popular belief, is somewhat comedogenic.
That being said - the MUFE only slightly mattifies skin. It doesn't absorb excess oil like a blotting paper would. It does however set makeup (works perfectly with the HD foundation) and gives a nice natural finish.

HD for sure. I have both products, and used the mineral veil for years -- and I no longer use the mineral veil. I have oily skin with large pores, and the mineral veil ultimately didn't do all that much. The HD -- if you use it correctly (a little goes a long way) -- really smooths out the skin and adds a little bit of a glow. My mother asked me if I had done anything to improve my skin -- and when I told her that I was wearing the HD, she went right out and bought it (and it did nice things for her 73 year old skin as well).

HDMP is 100% silica, which is so fine you can set concealer; yep, even if you have crinkles and wrinkles around your eyes - this gives a soft focus effect. I'm more mature and am very careful putting any kind of "powder" around my eyes, but this stuff is fabulous. You just have to use a very soft brush, swirl lightly, tap tap, and very gently blend over your concealer - will last all day and into the night. You can use it as a finisher on your face too. BEMV has starchy stuff in it; like: "Corn Starch, Zinc Stearate,, Magnesium Stearate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Mica, [and] May Also Contain: Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide."

Hands down Mineral Veil. While MUFE lasts longer, Mineral Veil is easier to use (i.e. less messy), much more versatile and in my opinion gives much better results.

do not worry that the MUFE powder is a bit more expensive.... it is sooooo worth it! I have been using MV for years, and I an very glad that I switched! Absolutely no comparison! An older associate at the store was trying to convince me to stay with MV... but I am in my mid-30s , not in my 60s, and the combo skin is still really rebelling against me. To cut a long story short, give it a try, you could always bring it back.... but you won't, because you are going to LOVE it!!!!!

I would recommend the HD powder over Mineral Veil (especially the feather light MV) because the MV adds too much shine; MV contains corn starch which can cause breakouts, and it also seems to accentuate dryness.
HD powder is very fine but doesn't seem to cause so much of a mess because the sifter contains fewer and smaller holes that allow just the right amount to come out. It also creates a smoother finish than MV.

MUFE is better than BE. I have very oily skin and this leaves nicy finish. A little goes a long way and it helps the skin look great. I still have some BE powder, but I don't use it. It is true for me that with BE, I have to apply over and over.

I own both and I like this HD powder a lot better because it is a lot finer so it is truly invisible on the skin, but it provides a soft focus matte finish that lasts all day long.

I own both products and can honestly say the HD Powder is the better choice. It does a better job with reducing oil, and has a smoother consistency. I would visit a store and sample both though, as this is only a personal opinion. Hope I could help!

I have both as well. I remember in the BE instructional video where they say you can apply the mineral veil powder very liberally - well that is because you have to. I always ran out of that stuff first. The HD powder gives that same softened matte look with less product (in fact, I wouldn't overdo it) and in much less time. I don't have to buff much, just put it on and go. I also feel that this smooths on better so I don't look over-powdered.

I used MV for years and was very happy with it- that is until I tried HD microfinish. I cannot speak to shine control, as i do not have oily skin. But I can say that HD gives my face an extra smooth finish, silky, and flawles. I still have a TON of MV left and use it on days when I don't care about looking my best- cause I dont want to throw it out.

I have both products and actually used the HD Microfinish Powder the most. I feel it soaks up any shine. I usually don't put it on right after my make-up application, but wait a little. My bare minerals always tends to add a shine to my face throughout the day/night. I wish they had a pordable one of these! Sometimes I still do see shine later in the night after using this product so I usually just blot with a tissue or toilet paper.

I found a kabuki brush too messy, so I use a small powder puff. I turned the jar upside down with the powder puff underneath it & shake it a little. Make sure the jar isn't directly above you (I do it at a 45 degree angle) or otherwise you'll have some powder on your clothes. Though some powder comes loose, I find it much neater than using a brush.

I think other people have given better advice (that I will now try out!!), but I'll still put my 2 cents in about how I've been struggling with this.....I have black plates (for eating). Open the container over it. Place lid on plate Use a thinner brush (like you'd use for concealing) to brush the powder that's hanging out on the rim (where the lid screws in) into the lid, using a sweeping motion. Lightly tap more into cap. Use what's in cap and then use what was captured on plate....black is awesome cuz u can see the powder. Don't leave outlest u get accused of having a massive coke problem....

I found the container difficult to work with, so I transfer all the product into a flat, lidded sugar bowl...makes it easy to pick up the exact amount I need on the brush, with no spillage or dust clouds.
I lightly dip a soft powder brush, tap excess back into the bowl, then buff VERY lightly all over face, neck, and cleavage (looks more natural when I take it all the way down).
This is a great product but it does require a bit of special handling. Try the sugar bowl idea, it makes a world of difference.

I have complete control over spillage and over use by NOT tearing the adhesive piece all the way off when I opened it. I only opened the adhesive piece 1/'2 way. Turn it upside down after shaking, and a little bit of power will be in the lid. That is all you need. Take a big brush and pick up a tiny bit of powder in the lid and in big cirular motions apply. There should be enough powder in the lid to do this 2x. Use the circular motion on your face until there is nothing left on the brush. your face should not be white. No mess. No spillage. If you take that adhesive piece off all the way, you could have way too much coming out after shaking it.

i turn the jar sideways and lightly tap some powder into the lid. and then i swirl a kabuki into the lid. if you still have powder left on the lid after swirling your kabuki in there 1-2 times then you're using way too much.

I do the same as amos. I shake it a little and then take off the lid. I use the Make Up For Ever Kabuki with it. It has a black tip and you can see how much powder is on the brush. I LOVE the brush. It's made of synthetic hairs and it is the softest brush I've every used. And I have the whole Bare Minerals brush collection.

Use a very small amount since this setting powder is concentrated. I use a large powder brush with this. If you can see some of the setting powder on the brush before you apply it on your skin, then you are probably using too much.

I dip my brush lightly into the powder, then I have a small tin lid that I swirll the brush around in, then tap the brush handle side down on the table and apply. Kind of like you would apply Bare Minnerals.

This does not come with a powder brush. I recommend that you use the Sephora Collection Bronzer Brush with this powder. It has tight bristles that will apply the product smoothly and evenly.

In Dec. 2008 this came in a kit with the Make Up For Ever Kabuki brush and that brush is the most amazing brush! It really helps with the application of this. I have the Bare Minerals brush collection and my favorite brush is still the kabuki from Make Up For Ever. It really is the perfect finishing brush because it applies the powder perfectly. If you buy the HD powder buy the HD Kabuki brush!!!

No, it doesn't. You're "supposed" to put it on with a kabuki brush, but the girls in the Sephora store who applied this product for me in the store used a big powder brush, and that's what I've used at home. Works well!

I would say so. I have dry skin and this is one of the few powders that I can use without looking cakey. Most others leave me looking really made up after just a light sweeping, with this you can't even tell it's on.

this product probaly can work with any skintype.
i think it might work better if your skin wa moist so it will stay on.
just use lotion for the dryer skin. for the oily skin, maybe just coat it on top of your skin and see the results(;

If you are applying cream blush or cream illuminizer, you want to wait and apply MUFE HD powder AFTER you've blended them in well. If you are using a powder blush or illuminizer, you want to set your foundation FIRST with MUFE HD powder then apply powder blush and illuminizer. After I apply my powder blush, I go back and blend the edges with the same brush that I used the MUFE HD powder.

Before you use any sort of colour type powder products after you use cream/liquid foundations it's a must to set it first with a translucent or colour matching powder. if you put on your powder blush on before you set, you can run into problems of streaking of foundation and blotchiness of the blush. I use a kabuki brush or big fluff brush. dip it slightly in the powder, take the lid and swirl it in well. tap of extra and tap on areas where you are needing to set the foundation. especially around the T zone

Swirl and tap excess off before applying. Break outs are likely due to - yes - actually NOT moisturizing before OR not using an adequate amount of moisturizer. Without going into too much science detail, essentially your skin will start overworking to compensate for lack of moisture thus resulting in acne breakouts. Also, if you are using more than 1 or 2 products before applying this, you could end up with a breakout or irritation but this could be said for anything (I.e., more is NOT better particularly for sensitive skin). Also, you only need a very small amount of this powder for a gorgeous finish. Most users the to use too much product.

I usually apply the HD powder after my blush because the powder (although sheer) tends to wash me out a little bit. My face still stays shine-free. I think applying the blush after gives my face a little more dimension. As for the application of the product, I shake it up (with cap on, of course) and then swirl my brush into the little product that it on the cap part. I then give the brush a nice shake/tap (so I don't douse my face completely of the powder) and lightly go over my t-zone with it. I hope that helps!

it's really not a big deal at all..as long as you don't plan on travelling around with it (cos then obviously the powder will spill out of the sifter and fill the lid and spill out of the lid and etc. i like the packaging it's quite convenient. and really you don't need to take this everywhere with you, as long as you're using it with a good primer, foundation, and makeup-setter then all you'll need throughout the day is 1 or 2 oil-blotting sheets.

it should come in a package similar to sephora's luminizing powder - with a built-in brush. This packaging is bulky, doesn't come with a brush, and once you open it, you have to be careful to not have powder everywhere!

Well, a couple of things that to me really aren't an issue: The sifter os white and the powder is white, so I guess for those who have trouble seeing, it could be a hassle. Also, the powder tends to puff right out of the sifter if you just stick your brush it without paying attention.

Okay first of, i LOVELOVELOVE this powder. Im fair skinned, and severly lacking in the cheekbone area, so i always have a difficult time applying bronzer and blush to simulate a bit of definition. Now i know that applying the HDpowder over your foundation is the reccomed way-as it sets the foundation, hides pores, and makes a beautiful smooth canvas so that bronzer/blush goes on smooth, and not too blotchy (another issue i fight with!!!) But.....unfortunatly i find that applying blush/bronzer, even eyeshadow too boot, over the veil of HD, literally comes off in a matter of minutes. So now u may understand my dellema. With the eyeshadow, i tried doing foun, and conceal; then HD-and tried to use an eyeshadow base on top of the HD-and it was a BIG mistake! The eyeshadow base (Benifits lemonade) went on all cakey, and blah. So Id greatly appreciate any advice!!!!!Thanx gals

Try putting the HD powder on after you put the blush and bronzer on. It will set all of that and only lighten it up a little bit.

then when im done done i go back over with a little powder and hit the same areas. cheeks nose and forehead and down my neck with this..

I definitely apply the HD Microfinishing Powder AFTER all makeup (including blush & bronzer). Hope this helps! :)

For your eye makeup, I highly recommend an eye primer. Urban Decay is very popular and I happen to like it too (beware the main issue with this is waste because of the shape of the packaging, not all comes out). I tried benefit and did not like it as well. The eye primer allows your eyeshadow to stick to something (the primer) that's sticks to your eye. So no cakeiness or creased. Plus it makes it last longer too.
I don't do bronzer, so I can't help you there. I might suggest doing the microfinish over the bronzer to soften if there is blotchiness.

I have a brush set I got from somewhere, I use a big brush to apply it and it works well. You could use a medium size makeup brush as well. I just dip it slightly into the container, then tap the brush because this stuff is very powdery and dusty and spreads quickly that way, and then its not all over your sink.

No beauty blender is just used for liquid foundations and when used with any kind of powder it can damage your sponge. I apply this with a big kabuki brush and i think it is amazing, but you can use just large powder brush. Hope that helps!!

Use a large powder brush, make sure not to get very much on the brush. You shouldn't be able to see the white powder on the brush.

The best part of this product is that you can apply it with a blush, blender, kabuki, or any other kind of large fluffy brush. The stuff just knows where its going. No sponges please

i like to apply it with a fluffy brush to maintain the airbrush look... You don't need too much of the product, and i feel that sponge application is more for blending liquid/cream foundations...not for loose powders like this one.

If you're allergic to silica then it's not hypoallergenic. Simple. Maybe to some people but not 100% of us. I'm surprised at the all around almost 5 star review, silica is a poison. This worries me long term.

I don't recall ever reading anywhere on the packaging that it is hypoallergenic, but I can attest that I have sensitivie skin and I have had no reaction to it whatsoever. I've heard some expressing concern about the Silica as well, but after using for a couple of weeks, again no problem. This is a great all around setting powder. My new favorite!

It's climatologically tested, which means it's probably not irritating for most people's skin. But you can always be allergic to make-up so I suggest trying it in the store if you have extremely sensitive skin.
