It doesn't lather, but I usually wet my brushes and then swirl in the shampoo, so I do see lather when I do it that way. I prefer wetting the brushes, sometimes it helps clean faster.

Maybe lather wasn't the right word because it didn't really lather for me either. The shampoo did clean pretty well though and that's all I was really concerned about.

Yes, I noticed this also and I really like that it's not foamy. I don't like it when I have to rinse the soap out of the brushes too much.

Lather does not equal clean, so don't be discouraged if you don't see bubbles. I've used this product for a long time, and I get zero suds. The soap remains silky and literally draws out the makeup. I gently swirl it in the product in the palm of my hand and rinse with warm water.

Mine didn't either, but it cleaned my brushes 100%, so I wouldn't stress out too much.

Wow..It lathers great for me. However, with my larger powder brushes, I have to put a few extra pumps of the shampoo directly onto the brush hairs to get a good lather! Hope this helps!!! :)

It's so much easier to use a soft sponge to clean the brushes.

1. Wet sponge.
2. Pump a little shampoo onto the sponge and slightly work into sponge.
3. Dampen bristles of brush(es).
4. Swirl in sponge/shampoo until all make-up is gone.
5. Rinse brush(es).

If the sponge gets super dirty while cleaning, just run it under water and squeeze out the solution.

I like to squirt a dime size amount in my hand and swirl the brush around, but you could also squirt a small amount on the brush and work it into the brush as you rinse it. You may have to repeat the process 2x to really remove all the product...especially when dealing with concealers or face makeup.

It has a shampoo-like texture, which you pump out into your palm. Then you gently rub the wet brush into the gel to work it into the brush (there will be little or no 'sudsing'). Once it is worked through all the bristles, you simply rinse well, pat the brush carefully on a towel, then re-shape and lay flat to dry overnight. Obviously you need to do this when you have time to allow brushes to dry completely, as you wouldn't want to use them in cosmetic while wet. Makes your brushes amazingly fluffy, but doesn't damage, dry out or change the texture of the bristles!

I wash my hand thoroughly. I dampen the brush tips, pump a small bit of shampoo on hand and gently swirl the brush into the shampoo. It came off quickly and easily on all brushes except for the foundation and concealer brushes.

Put some shampoo on the brush, then make a cup with your hand and put some water in it. Lather up your brush then run rinse and let brush dry. You will notice the difference.

I would say it does. I cleaned my foundation brush... it took about 3-4 applications of the shampoo before the water ran clear, but it ran clear. I followed the instructions and pumped the shampoo on to my hand and then swirled the brush into it while running it under warm water. (im using the sephora foundation brush- and had never washed it since i bought it- so it was full of make up)

you need to put a little effort in and move the brush around but it does work for cream products, I use it on my lip brush and my cream eyeshadow brush with no problems!

Good question - and I almost noted this in my post...unfortunately, it takes substantially more effort to get the foundation and concealer brushes clean. It will clean them effectively...eventually. But it does not come off effortlessly as with the other brushes.

This shampoo gets my foundation brushes clean. You might be using a brush cleaner unsuitable for heavier make up ingredients such as the ones found in liquid foundations. It could also be that your brush bristles are bleeding dye so it may not be residual foundation. I had a brush that did that and I, too, thought my shampoo wasn't getting it clean.

I use the brush shampoo every day for my eye lining brush, concealer brush and my face makeup brush. I don't use the cleaner at all. The cleaner is faster drying and doesn't require rinsing. I would think that if you're using the cleaner each time you could shampoo your brushes 1x per week.

Well if you're using the daily brush cleaner, you'd be likely to need to use it daily, but if you're using the general brush cleaner, probably about twice a week dependent on use.

Also if you use a lot of products or product on the brush, you should use it more often to keep your brush in tip-top shape.

I would say ideally once per week. But I usually lolly gag for a couple of weeks.

I have healthy, clear skin. Luckily, I am not prone to break out. I tried this product about a month ago. I cleaned my brushes and made sure they were thoroughly rinsed out and dry before using them again. I had a reaction to the brush shampoo. It caused me to break out, so it isn't what I'd call an allergic reaction, but clearly something in the product did not agree with my skin. I'd be cautious. You could always try it, and if you do have a reaction you know Sephora stands by their products and would try to find you something that didn't cause a reaction.

No. My skin tends to be sensitive & I haven't haven't had any issues. In fact, cleaning my brushes more frequently has avoided any oil build up on the brushes. Also, you are washing and air drying your brushes for at least 6 hrs. before you use them and the purifying shampoo has been thoroughly rinsed out.

I have very sensitive skin and I had no problems using this product.

If you rinse the product thoroughly from the brush, it shouldn't be harmful. Keeping your brushes clean will likely benefit your sensitive skin.

you can always buy a brush guard to put on your brushes after you wash them. It helps them maintain their original shape and you can get a set for pretty cheap online.

Get brush guards. If you look up that term using a search engine, you'll find them. They do a great job in keeping your brushes shaped properly and protect them wonderfully during travel.

I squeezed out most of the water after rinsing the heck out of my brushes and then smoothed the bristles into shape before laying them on a washcloth to dry. that worked really well for me.
What you described sooouuuuunds like a drying issue? Something similar happened to me once before I tried this product--but when I dried it, I was shaking water out of it--and I ended up with some fluffy spikiness. How did you dry them?

I always squeeze the remaining amout of water out and re-shape my brushes, usually if its puffy normal use will make it go back to normal. I had a blush brush that did this and i just re-washed it and re-shaped.

When you cleansed, did you lay the brushes flat to dry and shape them while still wet? I didn't find this item made my brushes in any better or worse shape, that all had to do with how I dried and shaped them after.

yes, its safe for both natural and synthetic brushes. i highly recommend using it with the brush guards too. it will help with reshaping the bristles while it dries and will also aid in prolonging the life of your brushes too.

It does give a deeper clean than hand soap. It got the super-long-last foundation off my foundation brush when other soap didn't.

this really is NOT better than hand or face soap. However hand soap may not be gentle enough for your brushes (depending on what kind of hair they are made of) and face soap is gentle but might be too expensive for using as brush cleaner (I used to use Philosophy Purity Made Simple face wash which worked great but was pricy!). This is not better because it does not wash well, specially foundation brushes. I suggest baby shampoo.

In my experience, it made the brush's bristles light and fluffy once it dried. I used to use soap to clean my makeup brushes, too, but this worked much better. Before, the brush head would be clean but it was like no big deal. After using this stuff, the bristles were light, fluffy, and soft.

Maybe you can get a sample to try it.

I had the same misgivings about buying this--I'd always just used a bar of soap before. However, using this, I will never go back. The soap took forever--I had to keep applying and washing it out to get all my makeup out, plus the endless rinsing to make sure I got all the soap out, and then my brushes were super soaked and took forever to dry. This stuff was ridiculously quick--I washed about 6 brushes in 5 minutes. And I could barely believe it, I kept running the brushes under water to see if more makeup would come off, to see if it was missing some and the water was clear. I will never go back to soap.

This formula works great for brushes. A few pumps and some water and you'll see the make up just dissolve from the brush. I used to wash my brushes with hand soap, but wasn't satisfied with how much soap I had to use to get it clean (too much lather). This cleanser is specially formulated for makeup brushes. This shampoo won't necessarily build up a lather (which I like) but will definatly clean your makeup brushes.

it's an actual shampoo that is deep cleaning. you have to rinse your burshing and allow to air dry after cleaning with this product...not like other cleaners where you just apply the product and wipe your brushes clean (that's for "daily use" cleaners).

There's the brush shampoo, and the brush cleaner. The brush cleaner (the other one) is more for everyday and won't get the stuff that's in a bit deeper. This one is better for foundation brushes where the brush picks up more product and has deeper-set gunk. For powder brushes, the other is probably sufficient.

I prefer the shampoo vs. the anti-bacterial spray because it adheres to the brush & product to really clean the makeup brush. I tried just using anti-bacterial soap previously and it left my brushes dried out. The bottle lasts for about 8-12 months with regular use on your brushes.

There are a lot of brush cleaners on the market right now. Some are for daily cleaning, and some are for a more heavy duty cleaning, for once or twice a week. There are also towelettes available for cleaning brushes. Some cleaners are anti-bacterial and some are not.

Frankly, I haven't found one that's way better than the next. Some are a little stronger which would be good if you use a lot of heavy oil based products with your brushes. Otherwise, most any cleaner seems to work pretty well. Some people prefer the anti-bacterial cleaners, especially if they have any skin issues. Even if they don't, it protects the brushes from bacterial growth.

I would say that you can clean the Clarisonic brushes with just soap. This product is intended to clean make up from make up brushes...

I use the Clarisonic and have never cleaned the brushes because the clean when you use it with the cleanser, then you just rinse it with warm water...

I have this product, and a Clairsonic, and TBH I've never thought of cleaning my Clairsonic with it. I might try, but I currently just snap off the Clairsonic brush and boil it in water on the stove for 10 minutes every few weeks or so. Maybe I'll wash it with this product before boiling next time.

I usually use a very little bit of my face cleanser on my clarisonic brush heads but I'm sure this would be fine too (and a little less expensive.) : )
