what color is this exactly?

The color pigment for this product is almost non-existent, and therefore it is not at all like a traditional tinted moisturizer or BB cream. After a few minutes it melts right into my skin and its as if I have no makeup on.

City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25 is very sheer. It appears tinted, but it's just a light natural blend that doesn't leave the white residue on your face. I love it! Plus it doesn't have that bad sunscreen smell. It's exactly what I was searching for.

This does have a tint - a light buff / beige color. But I too have very fair
skin & it doesn't really show. I put my foundation right on top of this

I don't know if this will help because I am not faired-skinned (I am light skinned but right now I might be more like medium because I am a little tanned - it's summer where I live). City Block Sheer looks ashy on me, actually.

It is tinted but blends well, unless you're very dark skinned. The tint helps to hide the normally whitefish cast from the oxide based sunscreen ingredients

There is a very sheer, slight beige tint. Some people say that this is not noticeable on them, but I can definitely tell. It is slightly to dark for my very pale skin, but it looks nice, like I've just had a bit of sun. There is only one "tint", if you will.

I think it depends on your skin and the type of makeup you use. I have combination skin and have gotten by using it as a primer. I don't, though, because I like to have more "insurance" under my makeup. I use a separate primer.

A foundation brush would put way too much on your face. Only dime size amount if needed for your face and neck.

Since it is a tinted moisturizer WITH spf.. I would use the product as you would a moisturizer.. by rubbing it on the skin a bit.. not painting and blending like you would do with makeup. The tint really isn't much anyways.. it's just a little added benefit for very LIGHT coverage.

I have, and depending on your foundation brush, it does give a nice sheer finish. But with tinted moisturizers like the City Block it's the same as with foundations, some prefer putting it on with fingers, others with brushes... Just a matter of preference!

I think it's mainly supposed to be used as a tinted sunscreen. It's very sheer and I don't see any way of increasing the coverage. It works well as a primer though, so you could go with a powder or liquid on top of it, whatever you prefer.

Don't think it would make much difference with a brush - you'd have to put a LOT on for any tinting. I'd recommend the Clinique "Almost makeup" for the next step up of coverage.

No product is completely waterproof, but I would say that Clinique City Block is fairly water resistant. But with any product that has an SPF you need to reapply every 2 hours and more often if you towel off, spend a lot of time in water, and perspire heavily.

This product can be used as a primer if your skin is not too dry. I would use the step 3 moisturizer before putting it on. That's what I do. Then I have no trouble at all. I don't really need makeup after putting this on. If I were at the beach, I'd be reapplying it as needed. It's OK for sensitive skin. I have not had any reactions. I am avery fair skinned so this product works well for me.

Absolutley it moisturizes. I tend to have dry skin. It abosorbs quickly, which isn't a bad thing, but also will leave your skin feeling refreshed, and with a glow. I highly reccomend using this product form Clinique. It protects just as well as it hydrates. I have paid for expensive creams, sunscreens, ect and was left with nothing but dissapointment. And for only $17.50 it's a steal and product I'm more than sure to buy again!

Question
City Block or moisturizer with sunscreen and 'sun screen' smell?
I usually prefer a moisturizer with sunscreen, because they don't usually smell like sunscreen and because I don't like to wear a lot of products. But Im fair skinned and going south for a few months?

There is no bad "sun screen" smell. How well I know that odor - like bug spray. No, nothing like that. if you have doubts, go to the cosmetic counter and check it out. The product has helped my skin in a number of ways. I have to wear sunblock for several reasons. I recommend this product and would buy it agiain.

I do, too. With this product I have to apply moisturizer first. But, I believe this offers greater protection than a moisturizer with SPF. No smell at all. Does not apply like a moisturizer, it is slightly thick and does not spread easily.

I would say it does not mattify a lot but it is not greasy either. I think the hourglass mineral primer is better for a very matt effect. So if you have oily skin maybe try hourglass, but this one is great for my combination skin.

It definitely keeps you matte all day. It keeps the oil/shine at bay. It has always been a go to for me. I have massive greasy face if I'm not wearing this or Laura Mercier's primer. I have to use one or the other. I use both (apply Clinique first and then the primer) for a super foolproof makeup finish if I'm going to be out all day (like an outdoor wedding and you want to wear tons of makeup).

difference between city block sheer and super city block
I'm wondering if anyone has tried both the City Block Sheer SPF 25 and the Super City Block SPF 40. Which is better for hot weather and more oily skin? The products seem rather similar (few differences in ingredients). Does one provide more coverage? Thanks!

The SPF40 sunscreen has 1 chemical sunscreen along with the mineral ones; the SPF25 one is mineral only, making it the best for sensitive skin. According to Beautypedia.com, the SPF40 one has a potentially irritating fragrant plant extract in it, so I'd suggest you stick with the SPF25 one which is rated as a Best Pick on that site. I have tried both and prefer the SPF25 one because the SPF40 one made me break out (a few years ago and way before I new about Beautypedia).

City Block 25 is my preference because it doesn't irritate my skin like the higher spf City Block. If you don't have sensitive skin though the higher spf is nice and I don't have a problem with oiliness when using this product except for on the most muggy and hot of days in the summer when pretty much nothing seems to not make my skin look pretty gross. :-)

City Block Sheer contains NO chemical suncreens, whereas Super City Block does. My dermatologist told me to "layer" a 25 SPF to get the protection of, say, 40 as in the Super City Block. I am a skin cancer survivor and have been cancer free for 10 years using this approach :)

I intern at a cosmetics company in R&D. BiOCl is found in many, if not most, cosmetic products so I would be careful with mineral and color products. However, most foundations and face products (if not derived from 'minerals') should be fine. Just take caution when purchasing cosmetics though- it's everywhere! Good luck!

I do not know if this is an ingredient, but I have very senstive skin and eyes. Can't wear many moisturizers or make-up without watery eyes and burning skin. This product was recommended for sensitive skin by "Beautypedia." That is why I bought it. And I have had no reaction. Good product. (Beautypedia lists ingredients, if you are willing to pay for subscription.I find it very worthwhile. I look everything up prior to purchase.)
