SEPHORA COLLECTION Pressed Powder

What it is:A silky, lightweight, shine-reducing pressed powder. What it is formulated to do:Smooth and feather light, this pressed powder glides easily over bare skin or foundation, leaving a natural yet flawless appearance. The unique formulation includes finely milled talc and corn starch, for superb shine reduction, and Nylon 12, for excellent adherence and long wear. Plus it contains fruit and Jojoba oils, which softens skin by preventing essential cellular water loss. What else you need to know:The "R" and the "D" in the shade name reflects Sephora's French background. The "R" stands for Rosee (pink) and is for those with cool undertones. The "D" stands for Doree (gold) and is for those with warm or yellow undertones.

Questions & Answers for SEPHORA COLLECTION Pressed Powder

Question
Good for acne?
I am barely recovering from my acne. I currently use a mineral loose powder that I apply with a brush, but stings my eyes a bit when I apply it (and flying powder would come in contact with my eyes). Though the one I'm using seems light weight, I am looking for a more compact powder that still comes on sheer and natural (and good for asian yellow undertone skin), but would definitely NOT bring my acne back. Would this product be suitable?

NO! If you are prone to acne, you should avoid all products containing corn starch. Because it is an organic product (i.e. vegetable) it promotes the growth of bacteria. Stick to powders with mineral-based, non-organic ingredients, such as talc.

I've had acne in the past as well, and this didn't cause any breakouts for me or irritate my skin at all.

I'm not sure about the powder not getting in your eyes, I'd recommend applying with a sponge of some sort if that's a concern (the Laura Mercier ones are awesome and you can wash and reuse them forever) As far as the acne goes... my skin was awful and I'm still very sensitive to most products. I didn't seem to have any breakouts or issues using this powder. I also recall there being a huge selection of shades, both golden and rose, so you shouldn't have trouble finding one that works for you. If you're looking for better coverage though, I'd recommend the Laura Mercier mineral powder foundation. It's a miracle powder! (I'm a Mercier fan if you haven't noticed) I get lots of compliments on my skin when I have it on and I think it actually improves my overall tone, even after it's off.

Unsure about the tone, portion of the question...I don't have acne per se, but do break out time to time (who doesn't?) and some other products have increased the amount of breakouts...this one did not.

I have never liked the loose powder. It has wrecked too many blouses and gotten into my contacts because it becomes airborne. I have been recovering from roseacea and can say that it doesn't sting and actually has made my face feel softer. I wouldn't think it would bring on an outbreak-I haven't had any (knock on wood). There are a lot of tones to choose from.

Not sure about the yellow undertones-but I'm sure they have a shade for it. I do get occasional adult acne and this has not aggravated it. I use a brush and clean it often. I would not use a make up sponge unless you use a new one each time.

I think this product would be fine for acned skin. it's very light, and can be layered even on my oily skin without caking. you could also switch to a different loose powder; if the one you are using is stinging- I assume you keep your eyes closed while applying loose powder- I would try a different product. a friend who had oily, acne prone skin liked Benefit's Bluff Dust. it is very transparent, but does have a yellow tinge that would work for all warm complexions. I like Make Up Forever's Microfinish Powder. it has no color at all. with any loose powder, I am sure to do the following: start with less product, and build coverage as needed; hold my breath when applying [any loose powder is being inhaled, so I like to take this precaution], and keep my eyes closed. also make sure you get yourself a good, quality powder brush like Sephora Brand powder brush #49. the short handle of this brush will make applications more controllable, and it is a nice, soft natural bristle brush that will hold a good amount of powder. dip your brush into your loose powder, then tap the brush against the container to 'unload' excess powder; then dust your face.
a great product for acne and congested skin is philosophy's Hope in a Bottle. it sounds like you have a good skincare regimen in place, but I just thought I'd mention this product; I've used it with good results.
I hope this helped!

There is a little fragrance, but I actually found this to be soothing compared to other powders, during a PMS skin break out. My sister, who has very bad acne uses this product and it not only covers well, but prevents her skin from drying out, even with all the acne products she uses.

It does have a smell. But it's a really light smell. It's almost like a baby smell. It's very light. I also have very sensitive skin and I have yet to have any problems with this product.

Question
Color Question RE: Sephora powder to match fair skin, green eyes and dirty blonde hair.
I have pretty fair skin and cannot wear anyting with pink-orange tones. Just look hideous on me. I ordered this powder in D20 because it looked the most neutral and beige. I normally wear Clinique Almost Powder foundation in Neutral fair. Do you think this shade will be pretty close? Thanks so much for your help and outstanding customer service. Sincerely,
Jennifer Stines

You say you have pretty fair skin. I think the question is: how fair: I just purchased the Cool Porcelain color for myself. Our complexions sound fairly similar. I have porcelain ivory skin, hazel green eyes, and medium ash brown hair. The problem I've run into is that the Cool Porcelain (which is the lightest cool-toned color Sephora brand has) is still to dark for me. It made my face look darker than the rest of my body and in some places, made my face look dirty. Since it was only $7 I'm going to keep it and use it if I have a tan some time over the summer. If you're a little darker than ivory, then it may work on you but if you're ivory, you may want to reconsider.

This shade may be somewhere in between Clinique's neutral fair and stay beige. It's certainly not pinky or orangey. I think you may really like it. I've used Clinique's stay matte powder and this is not as heavy. Feels wonderful.

Hello,
I'm also asian and I just recently purchased the beige rose cool beige color. It has a nice pink undertone to it since i'm a bit rosy in different places, I'm also a bit fair skinned, but not regularly fair. This color enhances my skin color and gives it a nice rosy warm touch!

Go to a sephora store (or any makeup store I guess) and ask one of the employees to help you pick a good shade. Then try it on, but wear it outside of the store and home making sure of two things- 1. That it doesn't make your face itch or bother you and 2. That it looks good in most lights. The store, your house, outside. If you don't want to spend that much- most Rite Aid stores allow you to buy make up, try it, and then take it back for a full refund if it's not the right color- even if you've already opened it. Also many websites like covergirl or maybelline can tell you what your color will be in their brand if you know the color number from another. Pretty sure Dior does this too. Anyways hope that helps!

Use R15 (cool porcelain). It's the perfect shade for fair/light skin with pinkish/cool undertones. A sephora employee matched me to this shade and I love it...it's the only powder that has ever matched my skin tone without being too pale or too yellow. And I used to use the same shade of Bare Minerals that you use.
Also, I would really recommend getting the Sephora Platinum Collection Powder brush (#50) to use with this. It gives you a flawless, airbrushed finish.
