Comes with a nice round sponge, which does not crumble or fall apart. Does the job well.

Yes it does. It's hard to see in the picture, but the applicator fits into a compartment underneath the foundation. There is also a mirror. The applicator is unlike your usual powder foundation applicators - it's black and has a very velvety touch. Also provides smooth coverage and can be used wet/dry without it turning weird and flaky.

the best way to tell if your skin is warm or cool is to look at the veins on your wrist. If they look blue, then you are cool and should look for a foundation with an "R". If the veins look green, then it means you are a warm tone and should look for foundations marked with a "D".

i am light to medium. never really considered my self to have cool undertones, i took a chance & order the cool beige . it matches my skin tone perfectly. blends in like silky perfection, but definetly controls shine. i depended on the color match promise in case i had to return. luckily it was perfect.

I have one shade for winter, another for summer. If you're getting a shade too light, just take it back to the store and they will find the right one! Love this place.

Figuring out if you havve golden or reddish undertones is key. If you see more yellow in your skin, the you have golden undertones which require a Sephora shade with a D at the end, if you see more red in your skin, then get a foundation with an R at the end. If you have red undertones and you buy a foundation with Golden undertones, it's going to look lighter possibly ashy.

I checked with the beauty advisors b4 purchasing re. the comparable lightness of this shade vs. other shades and shades of other brands, this is the lightest pink-toned shade in this product line/category. This is the first time I've found a light shade in a pink undertone that did not cause application areas to be darker than my skin. I have mild rosacea and the buildable coverage evens this out without appearing "plastered over".

Put over liquid even with oily skin
Would this prevent your skin from getting oily even after putting on a liquid foundation?

I find any liquid foundation to make my face really oily by noon, even if I cover it with a powder which makes your face looked caked with makeup. Try a matifying lotion before you apply your makeup and see if a heavier type powder would achieve the coverage you're looking for.

I would think the liquid foundation would make you feel oily. This one does not. I put on a couple of coats until I get the coverage I want, and it never feels caked on, or clogs the pores. I just wear this alone. I love it.

Question
Broken compact
I really like the sephora products, however every compact breaks at the hinges. I have the buildable cover and even returned one because it broke. The second one just broke. The matifying compact foundation broke as well. three products ...all three broke. I do not keep them in my purse, they are stored neatly on a shelf in bathroom. I probably won't buy any sephora products if they cannot package them so they don't break. Never had makeup (not even cheap brands) that broke like these.

I bought this compact and really like it and did notice the hinges would get loose. All i did was push the hinges back towards the middle of the compact and it tightens like new. U need to check it every now and then to push those hinges back (with a pen or tweezers?). Yeah, a bit of a hassle but it works!!

This kept happening to my Mom everytime she bought this compact but oddly enough it has never happened to me. Since she has a different a shade than I do I'm starting to think that it might depend on the shade of the foundation. If the product works well otherwise, I would still use it. Other products from the Sephora line work great for me and never break. Hope that helps :)

Hmm... not sure if you're getting duds, but I've only had one of four compacts break at the hinges and that was my own stupid fault. Definitely call and complain though...they can't fix a problem unless they know about it!

If you have a beige complexion, it means you have gold or yellow undertones, so if you are going to purchase this product stick with the "D" my color is "D22", so i have a beige complexion as well, good luck finding your perfect match, hope this helps!

Yes! Of course. You can always ask a beauty consultant to help you pick your color. If you are going to buy that day they may even do your whole face to see what color is right. Usually the swatch it on your skin but if you are not sure they will probably put it on for you. I would not recommend going at it alone, having them match you will work out better. It is a great item and I really recommend it!

If you want fuller coverage, use it wet [do this by dampening the applicator with a bit of water] and apply it but if you're using the "wet application" method, you don't need concealer unless your skin tone is really uneven. Use the dry method with a good concealer.

good luck!

The best way to apply it wet is to grab the sponge included, wet it, then use it as you regularly would and repeat until you recieve the amount of coverage fit.

the easiest way would be to get a large sponge soaked in water and just wipe that on your face. but whether that would work or not depends on the ingredients. Or you can scoop out a little, mash it into a loose mineral form, and add face moustureizer to that. You might want to ask a sephora beauty consultant first though.

Certain skin colors are "warm" and others are "cool". For example, Asian, Latin, and Mediterranean skintones tend to be "warm" as they have golden undertones. Skin that tans easier than it burns also tends to be warm. On the other hand, people with Northern European and other Caucasian ancestries tend to have "cool" or rosy undertones; these are the skintypes that burn easier. For African skin you can get either. Regardless, this product comes in MANY skin tones so don't settle until you find the one that matches you exactly. Good luck.
