You would need to buy the blusher powder as a separate purchase like I did (I use Nars in "Orgasm." ) It is retractable because the cover comes off and you need to "twist" the bottom to bring up the bristles. You must be thinking of a similar brush that Sephora has. This one you cannot put powder in. It is just a normal brush that is SUPER soft. It is not one of the brushes that give you a rash when you put it on. I know that because my friend has one and she showed me how it works. I love this brush!

This is only a retractable brush. It doesn't hold powder. I use it with my Halo Perfecting bronzer, which is shaved powder. I love this brush because is so soft and I can put it away as if it was a lipstick. My other make up doesn't get dirty when I put my brush away. I strongly recommend it.
