Questions & Answers for Philosophy The Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash

Question
Correct combination of products
I recently started using the Microdelivery Peel 2-step system and love it! I would like to try other philosophy products and would appreciate your advice on the correct combo of products. I have combination (more oily than not) skin, main concerns are some fine lines and congested/ enlarged pores, and occasional break-outs. I would like to start off with a couple of Philosophy products at first and gradually introduce more. I have looked at the hope in a bottle moisturizer and I'm very interested in trying that... Can you please give me advice on the correct cleanser to use? I am between the Micro Exfoliating Wash and Purity cleansers. Help! Thanks!

Philosophy experts recommend using both. Use Purity in the evening to remove makeup/cleanse and use Microdelivery in the morning to cleanse before applying makeup.

I use the Microdelivery in the mornings and Purity at night. Microdelivery might be a little rough to use twice a day since it exfoliates but I used to use Purity both in the AM and PM.

I just finished using Proactiv for six months to clear up my skin but I didn't want to continue using a harsh cleanser. My replacement has been: Microdelivery Exfoliating cleanser in the mornings followed by When Hope is Not Enough serum then Hope in A Bottle moisturizer for my face and Hope in A Tube for my eye area. At night I use Purity Made Simple instead of the exfoliator as well as Help Me retinol treatment before moisturizing. I have not had any break outs or blemishes at all, my skin does not look oily or shiny anymore, and my pores have been purged. That's my skincare routine. Coming from someone with troubled skin it really works for me. Hope that helps!

ps to help with the cost I purchased the Makeup Optional for congested skin kit then the microdelivery and help me

I actually use both the microdelively exfoliating wash and purity made simple cleanser and I alternate over the course of the week. I follow up with the hope in a jar moisturizer (I use the one with spf during the day). This combo has really worked for me. The purity cleanser leaves me face super clean without over drying (I can almost go without a moisturizer). Then, when I need a good deep clean, I use the exfoliator wash (probably 3-4 times a week right now, with summer in Florida, my oil glands work over time). It is super mild but has really helped reduce blackheads and other breakouts as well as reduced size of my pores, refined my face. Follow that up with the hope in a jar - your face will feel YUM.

If you have large pores then the Microdelivery Exfoliating wash is the right choice for you. I have used this product for a while because I have the same issues you describe. Microdelivery is specially good for use because it cleanses better and does not leave excess dirt on the skin, which is great. It also removes surface lines which is an added plus.

I have been using this product since 12/08 (hubby bought it as a x-mas gift) and I just purchased my second bottle a few weeks ago! I did go about several months w/o it tho. So let's say it lasts more than 6 months! I only use this like 2 or 3 times a week tho, and a little bit goes a long way with these products. For daily wash I use Purity face wash.

I love the product and use it only as scrub twice a week, so the bottle lasted me forever. I would not recommend buying a larger bottle, as the beads dissolved in mine over time and I'm left with half a bottle of just liquid.

I use about a dime-sized drop once or twice a day, and think the 8oz bottle will last me a while. I tend to stick to smaller bottles of new products, so I don't lose out if I end up hating it. :-)

YES. i use this daily with my clarisonic, with the "sensitive" brush head. it is a fantastic exfoliating combination, but doesn't irritate my extremely fair and sensitive irish skin. the key with the clarisonic is to remember that the sonic pulses are doing the work for you; do NOT apply pressure, just rest the brush against your skin and move in small circles. if you notice that you are "tugging" the surrounding skin as you do so, you are probably pressing too hard.

I use this combo every morning with the sensitive brush heads. I do not have sensitive skin but dry in areas and I haven't had any complaints! I use Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer after so that may help but I don't find the combination abrasive, in fact I would recommend it!

I use BE foundation and typically wear only mascara.
I use this in place of my normal cleanser, because overwashing absolutely destroys my skin and causes acne breakouts. There's no need for me to have a second cleanser.
In the evening, I simply rinse my face and remove any eye makeup (if I decided to add any) and then I use this during my morning shower every day.

But, when I work out and I'm showering a second time during the day, I use a very mild soap just to be sure that the sweat and gunk are no longer on my face. The only reason I don't use it as my 'cleanser' for the second shower of the day is because I know it's a strong cleanser and overwashing does damage to my skin.

I wouldn't recommend using this soley as a cleanser. Instead, use it to supplement your cleansing routine. Perhaps if you use little to no makeup, this would be fine. But, since you can't use it around your eyes, and it's not as effective at dissolving makeup like Purity Made Simple is, I would use this after cleansing. It makes a huge difference when you exfoliate regularly, and this is a great product for it.

Depending on your skin type, I'm not sure if I would use it in place of a cleanser. It does cleanse well though. If you have sensitive skin, this may irritate your skin if used on a daily basis. I have oily skin with dry areas. I tend to use it everyday, but change it up a bit. I like to add it with my cleanser (no zit sherlock) on occasion. Hope this helps!

Question
Dissolving exfoliators, granules?
This is my 2nd purchase of this product and I've had it since April (the bottle usually lasts me about 6-7 months). It appears that all of the granules for exfoliating have dissolved and I'm left with just a gel. I tried shaking it up and taking the top off to see if the nozzle was clogged, but it seems like all of the granules have dissolved. I still have half the bottle left. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, this has happened to me as well, I had purchased the 32 oz bottle and that was a lot of money to spend with the granuals disappearing. Even when I shake the bottle, the granuals aren't there and I am left with a liquid, just like I am using the regular Purity cleanser. Next time, I will go with the smaller bottle of this product.

I have had that problem. It still works to soften your skin but the exfoliating factor becomes less effective. I had the large bottle and wasn't using it for awhile due to acne. I was told that you shouldn't use exfoliate products when you have acne. So when I finally start using it again, it had no beads at all. I even tried to turned the bottle upside down thinking that it all settled to the bottom. Philosophy should really make a note of this. I recommend that if you purchase it again, make sure you shake it every time and use it within a good time period. Since I share it with 2 other person, I would purchase the larger size. Stick to the smaller one if its only for one person. You should only exfoliate twice the max each week. I hope this helps.

I haven't had that problem with dissolved granules. The granules don't dissolve at all when I use the product. I even leave the bottle in the shower. I always keep the lid closed. I do shake the bottle before use since the exfoliant granules are in a lot of liquid.

It does remove flakes, although I'm not sure to what degree you want to exfoliate. (My skin is a bit on the moody side as well) The nice part about this cleanser is that, while it will remove flakes, it won't cause more drying. If you need a more intensive scrub, try the two piece set of Philosophy's microdelivery scrub/peel-I think you'll be delighted :)

i have both the micro exfoliation wash and the purity wash they are both great but the purity wash is more moisturizing and would recommend this specially if you have more dry skin or on days when your skin needs to be more moisturized i wouldn't use this all the time if you have oily skin, the micro exfoliating wash would be better because it exfoliates gently removing any skin flakes (after a few washes) and moisturizing to prevent more. i would also recommend the Clarisonic skin cleansing system it works great with philosophy products.

I'd alson add either the microdelivery pads(one step-great for traveling)or the the two step microdelivery peel once or twice a week, depending on how oily your skin is.There are a lot of other products that will make you extremely happy with your skin in some of the targeted mini sets at Sephora.
