this cleanser HAS a toner included! so you don't need to buy an extra one. toner's are pretty important because they help rebalance the pH of your skin. many cleansers is to disrupt the pH balance during the process of cleansing impurities from your skin. they also help remove makeup or leftover dirt trapper in pores that your cleanser did not initially remove. and i would recommend using a simple oil-free moisturizer with no active ingredients because your skin may still be sensitive from healing or existing breakouts. check for ingredients beforehand so that you may avoid anything irritating such as alcohol denat., etc.

This cleanser doesn't dry out your face. I don't use any type of cream or moisterizer on my face afterwards because I tend to get small white blemishes if I do.

I haven't seen a moisturizer for this line but the Photodynamic Therapy is a good (replacement for) moisturizer and it also contains SPF 30 which you need to use if your using this cleanser.

you don't need a toner. No one needs a toner. You can use on on occasion when you feel like you're face isn't "clean" enough, or if a particular toner has properties in it that you want to use on your skin. But since this is glycolic in it already, a toner is not necessary, it may be too drying & then you would definitely need a moisturizer.

Yes a moisturizer and toner are necessary! This cleanser is great and unlike anything you will get in the drug store. I think that great skin starts with a great cleanser. I suggest you use this, but save your money by buying a drug store toner and moisturizer because it's most important to have a high quality cleanser. I suggest Biore triple action astringent and netrogena acne defense lotion. That's what i have been using and my skin looks great.

Drying?

This is quite a dose of salicylic acid & glycolic acid, but it claims to be non-drying. My skin is oily/acne prone, but will dry out if i overdo it on drying ingredients. Can anyone with similar skin & experience with this comment on how drying it is?

i use it all over, and the only time its drying is when i use hot water when i get into the shower after. using it with the sephora rubber scrubby makes my skin extra soft.

It's not drying at all. At first I used Argan oil after cleansing, but then I stopped to see which results looked better and you can definitely get away with not moisturizing if you have oily skin. I currently switch it up from Argan oil and Murad's Skin Perfecting Lotion and my skin has not felt dry, but I would just use an oil-free moisturizer just in case!

I didn't find it drying AT ALL, but it didn't wash the dirt off my face at all either. One of the ladies at Sephora said I should use a makeup remover first...I think a face cleaner should CLEAN your face.

It truly doesn't dry out skin. Although it has a mild sting (from the strong ingredients) the first few days of use, the product never dried out my skin and I have combo/acne prone skin that can get really dry in some patches and really oily in others, depending on the climate and products applied. It's prob due to the other ingredients in it, that are non-soap products, which cause the cleanser not to foam and not to dry out skin.

I fit your skin type exactly. I use just this in the morning and night and it is not drying. If you feel like it's too drying, put on moisturizer before bed only. It's definitely virtually eliminating "the greasies" during the day for me.

I have been seeing results. Make sure you apply this cleanser on dry skin. Don't mix this with water and apply it to your face. Do EXACTLY what the instructions say. And still use your clarasonic.
My skin has a glow and is improving. Somebody thought I had makeup on today and I took that as a compliment*

I love Ain't Misbehavin. I haven't tried the product you're currently useing, but I have spent hundreds,maybe thousands over the last 20 years on cleansers trying to keep my face acne free, this is the ONLY one that I have found that works without drying my face. I ran out and had to wait for payday to get more,well,next time I'll borrow $ to make sure I always have it :) Do not wet your face before applying,go to Sephora and get a sample,it does burn a little. I would not use clarisonic with this cleanser- it's too much! I personally think the cleanser is a stronger exfolient. U can use the brush 1-2x/week not at the same time u use this cleanser. I use cleanser in morning and when I use my brush, it's at night- but only occasionally.

Help with Redness, Acne Scarring, and Milia?

I have acne-prone, oily, sensitive skin.

I have A LOT of acne scarring all over my forehead and chin. I also have these little bumps all over my forehead that I believe are milia (they're the same color as my skin tone and cannot be popped -- so most likely not pimples). Occasionally my forehead is very red too. So, I'm wondering how this product has helped those who have redness, acne scarring, and milia?

I don't currently have any milia, but I've dealt with it in the past. It's good to keep skin exfoliated to help with this problem. This cleanser does help with exfoliation and skin renewal time. My redness is very much improved and my skin looks more even toned than it has in a long time. As for scarring, I've got a couple of small, pockmarks. They are relatively unchanged, but I didn't expect improvement there. I really recommend this cleanser! Good luck!

this doesn't help for scarring because i have alot of acne scars too and i dont see anything happening for my scars. but i recommend doing masks for whitening because it does help your skin go lighter.

This product doesn't really help with scarring but it has helped with redness from acne. I noticed little bumps all over my forehead during the summer, the Dr told me it was milia. I switched to this product and within a few weeks my forehead was smooth again.

I have had those tiny skin-colored bumps too and after a month or two of using this cleanser twice a day I have seen a dramatic reduction in their appearance! And it is very creamy, and doesnt dry out my skin so I would imagine it wouldnt make the redness any worse.

Since I wear eye makeup, I usually go ahead and use a makeup removing towelette on my eyes and face before using. However, this cleanser gives you a really deep clean and does a great job of clearing away any leftover makeup, so I don't think removing makeup beforehand is an absolute must.

I never just wash my face first with cleanser if I have make-up on and then call it a day... I always remove make-up first, so I am not washing/lathering "old make-up back into skin."
I personally use a cold cream to take off make-up.. it does a great job without stripping my face before I wash/use any products containing aha or bha.

You will want to make sure to use a warm washcloth to wipe it off your face, instead of just rinsing your skin. You do not have to leave it on long, maybe 10 seconds, just long enough to warm the cloth, then wipe gently with the washcloth. I prefer to use a white washcloth, so I can really see what is coming off my face! It works!!

I would try a sample first if you can. I found this product to be too irritating, and while my skin is sensitive, it is super oily. It did not dry my face out excessively - it just was too irritating for me. Dr. Baumann in her book, Skin Type Solutions, explains that some people are "stingers" - they react to certain ingredients with stinging and burning. I am apparently a stinger. If you are not a stinger, this might work very well for you.

Definitely try to get a sample! I bought w/o trying a sample and regretted it. I think this will work well for people w/ "resistant" skin who are "non-stingers." (see my review). Unfortunately I am a stinger. I also found that this did not remove make-up well. I had to remove m/u 1st, then use this.

To me this product is creamy. I haven't had a problem with it being greasy. Make sure you use a good moisturizer with at least SPF 30 or higher because it will dry out the skin a little (the Alpha Hydroxy/Glycolic Acid in this product will do this).

If you go to the store they will give you a sample. I have sensitive skin that is combination and I find it neither over-drying nor greasy. It has almost completely eliminated all of my break-outs (I have maybe two pimples a year)! It takes time, you have to use it for a while and clear out all of the pores that are already clogged…get rid of the pimples that are already under the skin. So you may experience more pimples at first, which is a sign it is working!

I also have fairly sensitive combination skin, and I do not find this cleanser greasy, drying, or irritating. It has helped clear up my acne-prone areas, but I would recommend taking off your makeup first with wipes or makeup remover (you will definitely need to remove eye makeup at the very least), as it is applied without water. Also, this way, I think it gives the cleanser a chance to penetrate deeper into your skin. I'm sure you can ask for a sample in the store, which should help you make your decision (after all, everyone's skin is different). I personally noticed a difference after a couple uses. Hope that helps!

I was advised by a Sephora consultant to use my Clarisonic to help REMOVE this cleanser. So, I massage the cleanser onto my face using my hands, let it sit for a few seconds, and then use my Clarisonic. I then remove any cleanser that's left on my face with water.

The consultant also told me that I could use this cleanser as a mask once a week... just let it sit for ~3 minutes, then wash it off.

I called the Sephora VIB hotline and they said as long as it doesnt have any beads in it that you should be fine. Just wet the brush and not your face and put the cleanser on your face instead of the brush.

Cystic Acne & Hyperpgimentation

I've had moderate to severe cystic acne for the past 4 years now and since I'm dark skinned, I also get hyper-pigmentation(dark marks where the pimple use to be). Will this cleanser help with it?

Also, I'm using Epiduo acne cream, which contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to control my acne (I see some improvement, but the hyperpigmentation along my chin is still there). Is it ok to use this cleanser along with Epiduo?

I just wanted to tell you, since the Aint Misbehavin line cleared my skin up, I bought DERMAdoctor's product called Immaculate Correction. It's a serum that is for hyperpigmentation, and wow it works for dark spots left over from acne! Quick, too! I can't live without it seriously. benzoyl peroxide dries out the skin. dried out skin= acne creator. also anything that dries skin out, such as a retinol by itself, when used on hyperpigmentation will only make it worse. i find glycolic acid is much more helpful as it also helps with acne, but also with hyperpigmentation and hydrates. salicylic and lactic are also great for both! but you might wana talk to someone at sephora, they can be quite helpful.

I don't see why not, as some products combine both BP and AHA/BHA in one product. BP and AHA/BHA work well together. Just be sure to always wear sunscreen, as both ingredients increase sun sensitivity, and if you notice too much drying and peeling back off on one or the other a bit.

First, of all I would consult with your dermatologist first because every person's skin is different. Second, while I don't have dark skin, I am Asian so whenever I get acne, I get very bad scarring. I would say for this product the more you use it, the clearer your skin is from acne. The bad news is that the clearer your skin is, the more visible the remaining acne/hyperpigmentation appears to be.

Lastly, in my opinion, using the benzoyl peroxide product with this cleanser may be too much because this has salicylic acid AND glycolic acid. When I first started using this cleanser, I didn't use any other acne products and my face felt a bit tingly using this.
