Questions & Answers for DDF Glycolic 10% Toning Complex

Question
Does this product cause excess oil for anyone else?
I've been using the DDF glycolic toner for about a month. I've been using it at least once a day, sometimes twice. I've noticed that my skin has been much more oily than normal. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a product that will help the oil?

Yes, after several months of my daily use, i've got new oiliness that Clinique toner didn't cause. And I believe Clinique was stronger, so I don't believe that DDF is stripping me, and I'm overcompensating. Also I use Dr. Perricone moisturizer which is incredible, so I'm not dry at all. I will try the advice of others & switch to once a day or every other. Thanks!

Two times a day seems excessive. I have been using this product two times per WEEK. Glycolic acid is relatively powerful stuff. I would surmise that you are seeing so much excess oil because you are stripping your skin, and your body is trying to compensate for it.

I would say make sure you are moisturizing after each use. If your skin is getting oilier, then I think it would suggest that its getting dried out and producing more oil to compensate. I always moisturize immediately after using this product.

I've only been using this for a few days and its already started making my face super oily, the other toner i was using didn't make my face oily at all, but it didn't give me results like this one. the DDF toner makes my skin feel so soft, of course for some reason it makes it feel a little sticky where i'm getting more oily, but it really helped with my acne scarring which was what i was going for so i think i'm gonna use this only at night and my old one in the morning and see if it helps any.

I would cut back on how often you are using it. Stick to once a day or once every other day. Your skin may be trying to compensate for the drying effects by producing more sebum (oil). I've had this happen when I overstimulate my skin with too much exfoliation or when I've used this product twice a day in conjunction with my clarisonic. I switched to using my clarisonic at night and this toner in the morning and my skin stopped getting unusually oily. Every person's skin will respond slightly differently to this so you have to find the frequency that gives you the results without overdoing it for your skin.

I use this product twice a day... I find that it makes my skin shiny, but there hasn't been more oil, I don't think, because I don't need to blot as often. My skin doesn't feel greasy even though it's shiny. Is it drying your skin out? I know it sounds paradoxical, but apparently if your skin is being irritated or dried out by a product, your skin overcompensates by producing MORE oil to try and replenish lost moisture :( seems endless! I've been just using a combo-skin lotion on my cheeks and leaving my t-zone with no lotion and just powdering it to control the shine. perhaps try cutting down the number of times you apply it? like just after you cleanse before bed and not using it in the morning.

Anyway, the mask from the same line is INCREDIBLE for helping with excess oil. Just make sure not to use these two products on the same day, though...It's too much

Good luck!

Long term damage?
I was wondering if this toner is going to give me short term beautiful skin but in the long run, my skin might be worse off if I continue on using this as a toner? What is a suggested usage for this?

I found that initially (first bottle) it worked great, but now that I'm on the second bottle my skin seems to be rebounding and is now breaking out worse than before. So, there may be something to your thought that continued use may not be beneficial.

I think the key is to make sure you always wear sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight, especially when using any product containing AHA or retinol or any other acid. And also make sure you moisturize.

I've never heard of toner giving long term damage. I use it only once a day at night when I remove my make up and it is working great for me. It gives be the peace of mind that all the make up is gone and no residue is left, this avoids break outs for people with oily skin like me.

I really don't believe using this toner on a long term basis could hurt your skin. If your skin doesn't react well to it, use it less often or discontinue it. All skin care routines should include a toner. After cleansing of dirt, sweat and grime and exfoliating away dead skin cells and flakes, your skin loses it balance and the pH of it needs to be restored so that's where a toner comes in. Use it before any serums and moisturizers. Going to a dermatologist is helpful too!

I would say that you may have drier skin because the exfoliation process is slower as we age. So you may have a build up of dead skin that's not allowing you to recieve the benefits of a moisturizer or produce your own. In that case you need this toner to remove all that dead skin build up. I doubt you'd have any issues with dryness.

There is a deoderant from Derma Doctor that is designed to lighten the underarm. I would use that instead since it's designed for that purpose and you will get the added benefit of your daily deoderant.

It might, but you might get irritation from shaving or waxing and using the toner simultaneously. I'd try Tend Skin, which is specifically designed for areas you shave or wax. Tend Skin (also on Sephora) is designed as an ingrown hair remedy, but it exfoliated and lightened my bikini line nicely. The DDF Toner is great for my face, but I like Tend Skin for my bikini line and underarms.

Question
Which cleanser is best for acne prone skin and post acne scars?
I have combination skin (dry in the cheeks area and oily in the t-zone area) with consistent mild to moderate acne (especially in the t-zone area). I am planning on buying DDF's Glycolic 10% Toning Complex but I also wanted to buy a cleanser from the DDF line to help with my acne prone skin and post acne scarring. Is there a DDF cleanser that helps with both problems?
I couldn't decide between the Brightening Cleanser, the Glycolic Exfoliating Wash, or the Salicylic Wash? Which cleanser would work best in conjunction with DDF's Glycolic Toner?
Please help! Thanks!

my dermatologist gave me a sulfur soap to clear acne, and glycolic acid overtime will eliminate scars. So as far as acne goes, you should be able to use products with sulfur and they should work.

I have the same problem. I have been using the DDF's Glycolic 10% Toning Complex for 2 weeks, and it has totally taken care of my problem. I don't think the cleanser is as important as using this toner religiously 2x per day, and using a leave-on serum if you are looking to brighten your skin.

I too had a similar skin situation. I finally tried the DDF Glycolic toner and face wash, and used it morning and night, and my face finally cleared up. I use it in conjunction with a clarisonic mia, and have been so happy with the results. Just make sure you moisturize and wear sunscreen!

I am 22 and have had the same problem as you for the past year with getting blackheads along my jawline! The right side of my face was congested and nothing seemed to help and when anything cleared, something was right there to replace it! =P
I started using the DDF mask about less than a year ago, twice a week, and it helped with preventing new break outs and QUICKLY clearing any present breakouts. It did a great job at getting rid of excess oil, even though it felt sort of uncomfortable on my skin because it felt very tight as it dried on my skin. I leave it on my skin for about 2 hours because it doesn't seem to do much if I leave it on for less time than that. I dab it on any blemishes and keep it on overnight though and it makes a big difference. Since I've begun using the toner (it's been around 2 weeks), the blackheads on my jawline have gone away. There were whiteheads that I couldn't extract before that miraculously disappeared as well! My skin is pretty much clear of imperfections now since using these products, except for marks from past blemishes.
Another habit I've gotten into is cleaning my phones with tissue saturated in rubbing alcohol 3-4 times and washing my pillowcases MUCH more often. It made SUCH a HUGE difference!

The last thing I can say is to make sure you drink a lot of water! It's something I got told all the time but when I consciously made an effort to increase the amount of water I drank, my skin looked glowy ^_^

Good luck!

look for and use only non-comedogenic products. ( cleansing, anti-aging, moisturizing, sunscreen, primer, and make-up.) It will say non-comedogenic on the bottle or package. This means it won't clog your pores. Also, once you find a regimen that works for you, stick with it. I was told by a dermatologist not to use too many different products on my skin. (it gets overwhelmed) Stay clean, eat healthy, and control stress. Good luck darlin!

Yes, use it after you cleanse, twice per day or once per day for sensitive skin. It should be safe to use with a brightening cleanser. You can also safely use it with DDF's 10% Glycolic cleanser. The only thing to be careful of is not to use it after a grainy scrub - but if you use this toner, you shouldn't need a grainy scrub at all.
